Oh, they're here. It's just that they're all little mom-and-pop places that need more support. Big chains like GameStop can't be relied on for anything 😑
I am a Japanese who is learning English. Please come to Japan again! As mentioned in the comments, the retro gaming market in Japan is booming! Unopened items hold especially high value. Also, stores like Super Potato(9:20) have fantastic selections, but they are quite expensive! Therefore, it's a store you might use when you really want something specific.
thank GOD you went back and bought that copy of Pokemon Box, still sad to see you missed out on buying a boxed copy of red, i believe you’ll get them soon 😤
I’m going to Japan next week, coming across your channel was the best thing that’s happened to me while researching where to buy pokemon games! Thank you!
I started watching you in the 7th grade and now I'm 24, living and working in Japan (from America). Welcome to Japan! Ps. I won a giveaway like a decade ago from you, so thanks for that!
Man seeing Munch and Kern goes to Akihabara make me regret not going last time I went to Tokyo. I really want to go, but I was badly injured and walking a lot was impossible for me so I’m very sad. I’m glad you’re having fun tho! Slice of us vlog are so fun to watch too! 11:08 OMG I love Mandarake. When me and my brother go to Akiba we never look first where want to go we just stroll around and man when we find Mandarake we are like oommmggggg 😂 13:02 Surugaya looks like a treasure box maybe I should check them out too Thank you for the great review and place’s recommendation!
Man that was such an enjoyable video! Gotta love retro game hunting in Japan, and since I can't do it right now, thank you for filming yourself doing it!
Once again living P5R in real life right now, hope your enjoying your time and the lp will eventually return and you will finally finish that great game.
I just finished up a month long trip in Japan and without a a doubt the Surugaya in Tachikawa was my favourite. As of four or so days ago they had the Pokémon Colosseum Celebi bonus disc you mentioned(in the original packaging) for ¥15980, I picked up a couple of copies of Pokemon Box(with the memory cards) for ¥3000 and they had so much more stuff that you’ll love! It’s about 40 minutes out of Tokyo but I’d strongly suggest it if you get the chance! 😁
Seriously, unless you don't have the time to explore or you absolutely need a mint copy, you really shouldn't pay Akihabara prices. That copy of Pokemon Coliseum that was just half the price is a prime example of why. Plus you can see more local areas that aren't crowded with foreigner tourists.
I really love the new style of videos! I've noticed you slowly go in this direction since around Legends Arceus' release cycle. I hope it'll stick the landing with other people, though
This man really gave me yet another reason to want to fly out to Japan at some point. Obviously, they have every Pokémon game I could possibly want but on top of that, it's cheaper than trying to get the English versions from sellers in America. Plus, well.... it's Japan so it's got every nerdy anime product out there to begin with lol.
Not the Pokémon Red 😭😭😭 I didn’t even know a Pokémon card game video game existed and you should totally play XD! Such an experience. Great haul overall!! Hope you had a fun adventure
Awesome finds! I spent 5 weeks in japan a couple of months ago and bought a good few of the pokemon games cib after hunting about 40 book offs. Crystal for 4700 Yellow 5500 Red 5000 Emerald 5500 Fire red 4700 Some steals still out there !
Got a couple of boxed pokemon games in Japan when I went last year. My favorite of which was a boxed copy of Emerald for like ¥5000 I have all the gen 3 games boxed in English and Japanese now! I wanna pick up Black and White 2 when I go back this summer.
I think gamefreak would rather pump out new games every other year, than to remake the new ones. Which is very sad. Personally i would love to play the older Pokémon games, like they made links awakening on the switch!
Pokémon Box is only rare and elusive in the US as it was only sold in the PCNY store and online. It was widely distributed in bundles in Europe and sold nationwide in Japan.
Great video, man! I know exactly what its like to hang out in those stores for hours haha! Recently went to BEEP for the first time. It did not disappoint. But nothing beats Surugaya imo.
I know it’s not as big as the one in Tokyo, but we have a Retro Game Camp in LA’s Little Tokyo 😅 it’s pretty cool, but not nearly as awesome as the one you went to! Awesome vid ✨
SO COOL! I hope to go to Japan some day, the only problem I have is that I have so much damn Pokémon merch already I could not justify half of this LOL
I’m not even lying when I say this, but I went to Trader when I was in Japan visiting relatives and bought the boxed copy of pokemon SoulSilver and as soon as I played it I was immediately blessed with 5 shinies before the hall of fame it was crazy
Most of the games you called sealed werent actually sealed, it's just the store wrapping it up in plastic which is very common in japan. Im currently doing my japan trip right now, i went outside of the main cities and by far found the best deals on the outskirts of the city. The only draw back is each destination isnt as close to the others.
Would you consider doing a playthrough of any Pokemon with you favorite 6 all starters only. Of course, this is something I normally do. I know you don't like to OP your teams, but I normally use one version of the game where I completed and have most if not all TMs and give my Lvl 5 of each starter best or preferred moveset then when I get Pokedex I add them to the team. I only leave the original starter on the team since it will always obey in case the others grow too quick, lol.
I did 6 months of trawling across the whole of Japan doing this for your same reasoning, affordable titles I can't afford in the west! I only just finished unboxing it all and I've been home for over 4 months😂
@@MunchingOrange Hokkaido is great!! I tried snowboarding there as we were there in winter and I found the snow and scenery breathtaking. I didn't go any more north than Abashiri. On the south side, Okinawa wasn't so good for retro games but everything north of Okinawa I enjoyed a lot 😁
Hardly hunting in Akiba, it’s literally a shopping area catering to western game tourists, they stock everything there and wait for tourists to turn up.
Just a heads up those 'seals' are almost guaranteed to be re-seals put on by all the resale shops, so definitely shouldn't feel bad about opening them up to play!
Omg Munch!!! Such amazing finds you got! Please do a playthrough of the yokai watch switch games sometime! Also, i definitely would have gotten black 2/white 2 as well as Emerald and shield dlc cartridge!
Ok guys so I have a question. I'm going to Japan in a month, so I could go buy some games while I'm at it. But what about compatibility ? If you buy japanese version of let's say pokemon emerald. Can you play it in another language ?
I saw a gameboy printer in the super potato in Osaka for around ¥10000 and a super gameboy 2 for ¥5500 and left them cos I was like I’ll definitely find one elsewhere cheaper. I DID NOT 😂 biggest regrets of my trip cos they were among my top things on my list!
I’m of to Japan next year and I really want to by the game boy colour over there and one of the Pokémon games but my question to you is could I buy one that you can change the language to English
@@MunchingOrange makes sense that’s a pity I feel as though if I played it in recent years then I might be able to play it in Japanese but I haven’t played the game since the late 90s and early 2000s so it will be to hard to get the story again haha
I live in Japan (Nagoya) and I'm a retro collector. I watched this to see how over priced those games are in Tokyo. All those places he went to are tourist traps because Akihabara is known for over pricing. Enjoy.
I got the og Japanese red and green here in Nagoya, box, game, manual and all for ¥100 a piece. A friend offered me $100 a piece but I had to decline. Idc if he offered me $1,000 a piece! I’ll never sell them ❤
I found pokemon green in the same quality for like 108 yen in a book off in Nagano. Tokyo prices must just sky-rocket cause they know heaps of tourists want them
It really was crazy, I only regret not getting any more. I don't know why I didn't. Now it's a no-brainer for me to buy a few other games like the other pokemon gameboy games for that price
That pokémon emerald on Trader with the add of the adapter for the function of trading (which was a JP exclusive) was kinda worth that price, if you think that you can find it at the same price or more, plus with shipping cost and custom, so maybe was better to grab it ahah
Can these games be played in English? :( I’m going to Japan at the end of the year and was thinking of buying a GBA or 3DS with games but if it can’t be played on English I probably will not. Thank you!
wow japan has a lot of retro games, wish the states had stores like these to preserve old games
