I’m personally happy mason died in black ops 2. As much as I love his character I feel like mason being alive undercuts the story of black ops 2 since mason dying was a really big reason for the player to hate Raul Menendez and they didn’t even bother trying to explain where he went after surviving that shot. Plus I feel like the call of duty franchise has been really struggling with actually killing characters off (like Alex, and Phillip Graves come to mind).
Edit: I also wanna add that I think it’s really good when things have a definite end to it. Idk about you but I don’t want 12 more black ops games about mason, woods, and Adler hunting down terrorist that threaten their American way of life. I just want to avoid a marvel situation where after avengers end game Disney just kept releasing more movies and shows with the same characters which made everything more boring and left some characters without a proper ending to their story arcs. As the saying goes I think all good things come to an end.

yeah, it also gets you a great cutscene if you do that, are able to keep karma alive, and you arrest menendez
david and woods visit mason's grave and i think that's one of the best scenes in Call of Duty history

Mason was the best of the best USMC Captains. Too bad that Treyarch made this inaccuracy in-game in which Woods, as a Sergeant, gives Mason orders, since Mason outranks him.
