The Fall of Baylor Football...

  • Just a few years ago, Baylor shocked everyone in the college football world when they not only put together their best season in school history but also won the Big 12 and beat Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl to cap off a 12-2 season. Dave Aranda looked like he was building something special and turned down multiple bluebloods to stay in Waco. There was excitement back in the program that had not been there since Matt Rhule had ripped everyone’s heart out and left for the NFL out of nowhere in 2019. That season was 2021. Since then, Baylor has been 9-17, has not beaten an FBS team at home since October of 2022, and has lost 13 of their last 16 games. The program looks to be in a tough place but despite the decline, they decided to give Aranda one last year to right the ship. This is the story of the fall of Baylor and whether they can right the ship.

      Why because all the teams in the big 12 were equally trash? Had 1 single team win a playoff game and then go on to lose the NC by 60 🤣

    I miss those Briles/Rhule era Oregon style, bear claw on the shoulder uniforms. I honestly think most of those uniform combos were done better than Oregon because it wasn't too many uni combos that weren't their school colors like Oregon did.

    I dont know why you keep saying Matt Rhule shocked the world when he left. Everyone knew he was leaving. He interviewed for NFL jobs every summer he was here lmao. and I mean that literally. No one was shocked or caught off guard by that. and that was part of the problem. Rhule couldn't recruit for shit because everyone knew he was leaving. He was a GREAT developer of talent though.
    It's been rough but there is already some hope. Aranda has finally embraced NIL, and our 2025 class reflects that. Alot of momentum in the program right now. As long as we make a bowl game Arandas job should be safe and we can keep this class together

    Baylor fan here. Until Aranda is gone, we won't be relevant. Aranda is a program maintainer, not a program builder. Aranda has no sideline energy, no transfer portal moves, no high school recruiting, iffy NIL, and an unwatchable style of football. The 2021 season was a product of Matt Rhule recruiting, except for Briles recruit Jalen Pitre, and Aranda's people knowing how to manage an experienced team. Hopefully now that Grimes is out the playing style will change. Still skeptical of everything else though.

      Could not have put it better, this is the truth they need to find a d2 winning coach and program builder look at KSU head coach and even KU head coach. The next coach needs to be able to build a roster and take 3 to 4 star talent and build them into 5 stars like rhule and Art did.

    • @MrHahn576
      @MrHahn576 6 месяцев назад

      @@bryceburk6035 @oedipuslex8557 hopefully July changed your mind. NIL and recruiting is clearly not an issue anymore. The problem wasn't lack of money. The problem was Aranda was too resistant to use NIL in this era when its mandatory to compete.

    As much as Aranda deserves the criticism he’s received , Baylor’s AD should also be on the hot seat. Being slow to ramp up their NiL collective could prove to be fatal , but more to the point , if their AD’s gamble to stay with Aranda fails tthey will have wasted years resources $$$ putting them at the bottom of the Big 12 FB wise that is poised to add even more competitive teams
    /programs if/when the ACC implodes.

    BU football has been spiraling down for the past 3 years. BU Coach Aranda and AD Rhodes completely missed the mark of changes that occurred in CFB. Three years is a long time to have your head in the sand. Both Rhodes and Aranda should have been fired a long time ago. They must have really enjoyed their time on Teams or WebEx during COVID. 2024 will be another devasting year and one that the University will FINALLY see the program has hit rock bottom. Very sad for the Baylor nation to experience it. Bring back Art Briles.

    Probably nor. The future of college football is one of haves and have not in regards to NIL money. Combine that with declining birth rates and overall declining college enrollments, and I forsee the amount of viable programs in future being cut in half.
    We won't care about smaller school like Eastern Michigan or UMass dropping down or closing their programs entirely.
    Yet we will see a shuffling of the deck where programs like Vanderbilt, Baylor, WASU, Wake Forest will all begin to look like UMass, Liberty, Ball State etc when all the small programs we see today could likely cease to exist.
