I really appreciate your thoughtful commentary on these works! As a teen I would sneak peeks into old clinch cover books at goodwill when my mom wasn't looking. Your videos are the perfect counter to the lecture I got when I got caught 😂
yay another one! I started getting these novels thanks to your inspiration and its been so fun. love putting these longer form videos on when im doing my nails, the dishes, etc
This little series has been the best thing! Your commentary is so fun and smart, and I love to watch a vid while working! I finally understand why grandma had a library of these "little" books, lmao
2:03:25 this is such an interesting version of this idiom because I've always heard it said as "and what does that have to do with the price of tea in China." The tea one throws me for less of a loop than the eggs do personally lol
This is by far my favorite series on youtube. I look forward to every upload. You've encouraged me to broaden my reading horizons and also have higher expectations for modern literature as well. I don't know if this would interest you, but I would love to see your thoughts on The Price of Salt (1952) by Patricia Highsmith especially if you are looking for more vintage queer literature. Anyways just wanted to say I find you to be very inspiring and I really love your insights!
Thank you for telling me about Price of Salt, it’s just what I was looking for in the vintage queer literature space! And thank you for the kindness 😊 I’m very grateful
I was so excited when I saw this upload! For the last few weeks I've been listening to your 80s romance video series like a bedtime story... maybe I'm hoping it'll sink into my subconscious and I'll get a wild dream? Your voice and your pacing is so relaxing. I hope you enjoy doing the series because I hope it never ends.
I am! I’m having a great time discovering new books and reading them, they’ve yet to be dull that’s for sure lol and everyone has been so supportive and kind, thank you!!!
Count me as another person who is love with this video series. I look forward to these so much! Sidenote, I also love your style - your wardrobe looks so pretty and fun!
I love these videos! The way you tell the stories is so entertaining, and your commentary is great. I love the accents, and the made up author backstory. Also, your mic is really cool.
Inspired by the frontier wife/Little House bit, I recommend the book Caroline: Little House, Revisited. It's the Little House on the Prairie book from Ma's perspective, with historical corrections from the original. Like the part where she's pregnant with Carrie during that time and gives birth in the middle of nowhere. And the stuff that was scary or exciting to Laura from the mom perspective. It's so good.
she may be white but she lives in the heart of alamo country and texas school system would have covered it a lot. being part of the historical society she would have had access to info for her book,
Thank you for the author lore!! It's one of my favorite parts of your reviews. I have an office job and I love listening to your videos while doing data entry. Gets me through the day. :)
Girl, your take on Stephen King is just spot on. Also, I love all your different recap videos, and you covering a genre of books I have never read so I can gain a new appreciation for the work that went into them, just thank you so much. I some how came across your channel when you had almost 250 subs, and I am so happy to see you grow. Keep being wonderful. Looking forward to whatever you put out next. Love from Ireland 🥰
I love your videos and Finally got around to making it hour two this evening. I laughed when you got stuck on the price of eggs in china 😂 This is gonna be a bit long, so I apologize in advance! 🤣 So! It's less about being nonsense and more about being irrelevant. There's a two part explanation that ties in your questions though! You asked about "Why not the price of wool in Antarctica", and you're spot on. The main point is in reference to economics, saying that the topic you were just discussing is as irrelevant as "the price of eggs in china" OR "the wool in antarctica". The idiom lets itself be adapted to any culture or type of irrelevancy. I know at least *someone* has to care about the price of eggs in china (probably chinese bakers 😂) so they wouldn't use the phrase haha But they might use your "wool" example! The other piece of the explanation (the part as to why china specifically) has to do with tea. There was a race during colonial days between tea importers (The tea clipper races if you wanna look it up), to see who could get their tea back for sale faster. Some could make it in 80 days. Some 90. Some longer. Whoever got the tea back faster hit a market desperate for tea AND with the highest quality tea. The difference in price from 10 days to 20 days could mean they'd make enough profit to buy a new boat, or they didn't make enough to even cover the cost of importing the tea in the first place. That made a saying become super popular in England and the US: "And what does that have to do with the price of tea in china?" Cause even tea importers didn't give a rip about the cost of their tea at the end of the day. The only thing that mattered was how fast they got the tea back home and up for sale. I don't know if that helped add more context to the mental hiccup while reading the book. I LOVE the way you share these stories, history, hiccups, and all. So please, please continue. I watch AND listen to them all 🎉
The saying I know is "What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?" My parents used it a lot when I was growing up. Means "what does that have to do with what we're talking about?"

2:03:28 - Oh! He was thinking about MARRIAGE(discussing/planning their "future" together), but she asked if he was just thinking about gettin' busy / makin' babies. LOLL!!!
((Basically, when he says he's "not talking about the price of eggs in china" he means that her guess at what he meant to allude to is way off, she's not even close to catching his drift or getting on the same metaphorical page as what he's talking about. Lol))
I wonder if the "that's another story" ending could possibly be because the brother got his own book? 🤔🤔 What was his name again? I can't remember, and I'm too lazy to skip the video back to find it right now; otherwise, I'd go try and look up if he was perhaps a main character in one of this author's other books. Lol 😆 😁😁
after ten or so of these novel reviews we need a tier list of the couples

Jane Austen is another great screenwriter. Her books are fine but they can be dry.
