MK Trilogy... Idk, what's the point? UMK3 is the real deal, especially if you own SNES or Genesis. Trilogy is just a cash grab that doesn't really add anything other than 2-4 extra characters
To make a long story short, MK3 was out for arcades then quickly came out on consoles within a few months. This pissed off arcade owners because previously MK1 and MK2 were out for at least a year before console release. As a way of saying sorry they provided a free upgrade which was UMK3, although some speculate this was already the plan because main characters like Scorpion and Kitana were missing in the vanilla version. I forget what the reason was, but Sony had exclusive rights to MK3 CD port which is why it wasn’t released on Saturn, but this upgrade allowed it to be on the Saturn. That pissed Sony off so then MK Trilogy was made which was an upgrade to an upgrade (think Super Turbo with Street Fighter). MK Trilogy was rushed, I feel like it could’ve been a lot better but regardless it’s still the best version of MK3.
No, this is incorrect. UMK3 was already being developed before MK3 was released publicly, and was a planned free upgrade. It wasn't offered as an apology to arcade operators lol

Trilogy was so exciting, but then had so many bugs and glitches and difficult ai that we never really played it like we should have. It needed. Ton of polishing and quality control. Also, the characters moved much faster than they should have. It made things look and feel off and unnatural
UMK3 on the Genesis might lacking in terms of graphics but it runs and plays faster than the SNES and plays more arcade too. I have both version and the Trilogy on PSX.
Gold Piece agreed. The main drawback with the genesis port was that the standard 3 button controller was awkward as all hell to use. To play it properly, the 6 button controller was mandatory.
XDKuro why would you play MK or any fighting game using the 3 button controller, sure it's gonna sucks. When I got my genesis way back 1990s it comes with a six button controller.
It's all I had as a kid, unfortunately. Parents never bought the 6 button controller, since they saw it as unnecessary. "Why get another controller when you have 2 perfectly good ones?"
I was never a huge fan of 3/3 Ultimate, have seen many say the same for oddly similar reasons but its a good MK game in the end. MK Trilogy is a fantastic release, a must have really. Another great review guys.
Thanks bud! Yeah it definitely had a different tone which threw me off at first back in the day, but learned to appreciate what it added. Trilogy is the shit though, nothing like having everything in the series
I absolutely love MK Trilogy on PSX, but I have to mention: I owned the original release revision as a child, the Greatest Hits version when I was older(original copy belonged to older brother). On PSX, PS2, and PS3, the Greatest Hits version freezes and completely locks the game quite a bit, especially on PS2 and PS3. I'd since found an older revision, and while there are some minor glitches, it doesn't freeze nearly as much as the Greatest Hits version.
N64 is lacking in a lot of ways, but it has 3 on 3 Kombat, and for that reason alone it's my favorite MK after all these years. Loved watching an in-depth MK review where they love the games!
I like MK3 on the snes better than UMK3 because it has Sheeva and you don't have to cycle the new stages twice before getting to play in the subway stage.
Out of the three MK games, I have to say that I think-overall-that UMK3 is the better game overall. Simply because it was my first foray into the MK universe. Of course, I still own them all despite not owning the systems they are played on. I own them to show my support to the series. I remember my friend Ron, my stepson Timothy and I played it everyday for two years for bragging rights to whom kicked the most tail. At any rate, all three games were quite impressive.

MK Trilogy for PS1 (not Nintendo) was everything great about the first three Mortal Kombat games. It was arcade perfect. It is the only game you need if you want to experience the first era of Mortal Kombat.
Super Nintendo was the better version then Sega Genesis I prefer to play this on super Nintendo because after all it's identical to arcade perfect by any means necessary. Even though Nintendo knew that the content was going to be cutting out because they were still using cartridges back in those days. 🍻
The biggest problem is it is missing a ton of characters, and some of the exclusive fatalities (like Scorpions clones) is kind of lame. Also, the sound quality of the music during the game is pretty weak, and the N64 controller doesn't lend it self to fighting games as well as the PS or Saturn. I do love the lack of load times, a big reason I bought a N64 as a kid instead of a PS

@@Drinkabeerandplayagameofficial well that's a relief lol
Wow, the other versions of this game are a lot better than the Nintendo DS version. They have a lot more characters.
Umk3 was in Xbox live market place and it had Xbox live and it was the best game ever.
Genesis also have mk trilogy hack version
Which is crazy awesome 👌
The death of Liu Kang lol
Wow snes was missing four backgrounds in umk3 and still a 9. Cough biased opinion
That aside it looks, plays and sounds better on snes. Genesis was just too old at that point. Shame it was never ported to 32x like MK2, could have been awesome
@@Drinkabeerandplayagameofficial I agree but snes sounded so muffled
@@Nobunaga1983 snes is a reverb monster so I guess it comes to preference there
Yall talk as tho the diff in specs between genesis and snes are significant. Pffft
I mean, they do. Snes has like 60x as many colors
@@Drinkabeerandplayagameofficial and genesis is like 4x faster cpu
Genesis does what Nintendont!
And dont u forget it
@@Drinkabeerandplayagameofficial blast processing !!!

Got the intro music stuck in my head!
haha it is catchy, It's by RoccoW and is called Chipo Remix...I think. We found it on freemusicarchive.com
haha it is addicting
+Drink a Beer and Play a Game friendship, friendship
Playstation is the worst version of MKT due to load times on the system. Best version is MKT on PC, shang tsung is actually playable.
In the PS1 version you can transform up to 11 characters without loading.
Everything sucks on Sega Genesis. But mk trilogy why did had to do Johnny cage like that no nut crunch it makes it boring
Disagree on the first part but big time agree on the second
@@Drinkabeerandplayagameofficial I mean for mortal kombat for Sega the sound system sucks.. on trilogy PS1 less cheat codes and less John cage ..that's fourth was coming soon I guess
Beer and video games. Hell yes!!!
I like your channel
I fucks with this
Good man
UMK3 is way better than Trilogy
It’s more polished, we are just marks for having every single person even if some moves got lost
The best one is ultimate mortal kombat 3 for the Sega Saturn
erick monroy need to get a Saturn one day
Yo guys can you give me your ps4 IP name?
SNES fanboys. ^_^
Greg Manukyan haha, I’m a lot of things but a snes fanboy is not one of them
mk3 for snes for me
