      Jayasurya is the first one to go explosive in first 15 overs in 1996 World Cup.

      Fielding restriction was introduced in limited over cricket since 1992 WC, After a few years the lethal openers like Jaysurya, Gilchrist, Sehwag used the rule very effectively. In 2005 Icc renamed the rule into power play.

    One of my relative named his son Jayasuriya when he was born in 1996 because he was a big fan of sanath Jayasuriya.

      That is true, but Warne played only 194 matches and bowled 10,642 balls and got 293 wickets, but Jayasuriya played 445 matches, bowled 14,874 balls and got 323 wickets. Jayasuryia is still a legend though.

    He's bowling was a bonus.He won lots of matches singlehandedly with the bat.But who can forget probably he's most important wicket at the 1996 world cup semifinals at Eden Gardens,when India was cruising to victory, he got the great Sachin who heading for a big score stumped down the leg side.That wicket changed the match, Sri lanka entered the finals and won the worldcup.

    Two days before this match SL had a tour match agaisat Aus A..SL all out for 65 and lost the match by 10 wickets..Then to fill up the time there was a rematch of 25 overs..SL lost that too...
    Then,they met Aus a day later and scored 343 and won with a bonus point...!!

      Exactly why it should be there. That many close calls can upset a batsman. But Sanath stuck to his guns and backed himself. That's what makes the opposition nervous. Because he doesn't stop believing. I recall Petersen's Ashes century to be another such hallmark. He was dropped twice but he never gave up and went on to make ton.

      Lol, when you get 4-5 chances in one innings, you usually get confident believing that it's your day and no one gonna stop you. It is really shocking that same makes you nervous. Dhawan, Sehwag hardly scored any century without having dropped catches.

    Back in early 90s, In ODIs there was a rule that fielders can't be placed out of circle for, first 15 overs.
    In those days, Jayasuria and Kaluwithrana used to do 50 in 5 overs only.
