1:54 my man on the right was remembering on how drunk he got last weekend and how much fun he had.. then he snapped out of it at 1:58 and was like "oh shit, what measure are we at?!?"
Frankfurt Radio Big Band. They're really amazing. They are brilliant and extremely versatile (I've seen them playing with musicians as diverse as the Yellowjackets, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Billy Cobham ... and that's just the tip of the iceberg). As I'm living in Frankfurt I go to their concerts quite often, about 10 times a year. It's a great privilege to have a band this good more or less on your doorstep.
So do I - let`s take advantage of what Frankfurt has to offer - this includes the Jazzkeller, where Lakatos, Schlosser and others of the FRBB are regularly playing - and Vincent Herring at least from time to time.
Sweet. Vince looks so much like Oliver that for a bit i thought the date was wrong. Super arrangement of Olver's classic. Thanx for posting the performance. BTW I saw Oliver perform live with a big band in NYC shortly before his passing. Truly one of the greats. Look for his "Afro American Sketches."
yes, it is a great privilege to have a band like the hr big Band, I also went to the concerts more than 10 years, since 6 yearsI live in Kassel, and the most of all I missed are the concerts of the hr big band
I was in Frankfurt Germany back in 1988. Frank Zappa toured his band and played Stolen Moments in his set .. which is interesting for if you hear Oliver Nelson set ( see Swiss Suite LP) at Montreux in 1971 his pick up band may well have been listening to Orange County Lumber Truck.
Incredible performance of the great Oliver Nelson composition Stolen Moments by the HR Big Band with exceptional solos by Vincent Herring and the lead trumpet.
Oliver Nelson died in 1975 at only 42 years of age & pianist/keyboardist Vince Gerauldi died a year earlier & like Oliver Nelson was in his forties & I believe both men had heart conditions !!!!!! Vince wrote the music for the Charlie Brown/Peanuts cartoon series !!!!!bOliver wrote music for the t.v. & movie industry in California!!!

Great arrangement of this timeless classic from Oliver Nelson, although they didn't resolve the arco bass back to the Cm at the end, for that spiritual sense of conclusion I always feel whenever I hear it. Used to play it in the community college jazz band back in the day. Wrote out my thirty-six bar bass solo to make every note repeatable, and channeled Mr. P.C.'s flowing bass lines throughout the piece which made it otherworldly for me. Bill's pulsing piano statements are as fresh and lithe as ever. Freddie Hubbard's original trumpet solo is the stuff goosebumps are made from. What a stellar lineup that created these unforgettable moments in time...stolen or otherwise.
He still plays his gold Yanagisawa. He used to play a Mark VI but switched to his Yanagisawa in the 90s. I've seen more recent videos than this where he plays his gold Yanagisawa also. I wonder why he chose to play a Mark VI on this gig.
Thank you, Dollydbrunson! Jörg Achim Keller wrote a fantastic arrangement! Second place compared to so many versions of stolen moments is great, thanks!
@@hrbigband I think someone in Olivers band was listening to Frank Zappa which had a riff from his Weasels LP on Stolen Moments .. its on the Swiss Suite LP recorded at Montreux

Who the hell couldn't like this. You can have a favorite version but, man, open your mind, your ears, and your heart.
This song is my childhood. Now Mr Vincent Herring is the KING!!!!!

THE absolute best arrangement of this Oliver Nelson classic (other than the original). This band NAILS it!!! WOW !!!
jstringer213 Have you heard Frank Zappa’s version from the Broadway the hard way cd? Nice IMO.
The 1971 Montreux version by Oliver is fantastic.
Those beautiful opening chords sound like a brass choir......stunning!!! B R A V O!!!

Teenies Blues another essential Oliver solo from Blues and the Abstract Truth!
Great performance! Bravo !

Stolen moments! Great JAZZ music took me back to the good old years when Black People had some sense.
NEVER too late to teach your kids jazz!!!Give money to the band director!!!
Here it is with one trombone and one trumpet..ruclips.net/video/b6VRorQnSOE/видео.html
Impresionante, hermosa versión!!!
muss einfach ne analyse auf note zu dem stück machen, danke dafür
Magnifique!
He should play that MkVI all the time, sounds especially nice!
Fantastic
HOLY SHIT THE SAX GUY!!!!😳😳😳😳😳😳AMAZING!!!!
Axel Schlosser is as marvelous as Vincent Herring. But where is the wonderful Tony Lakatos?
For some reason Tony did not play this gig, he was replaced by Ben Kraef.
Quiet simply superb.
I thought that Vincent played on a Yanagisawa? When did he switch to a Selmer?
He still plays his gold Yanagisawa. He used to play a Mark VI but switched to his Yanagisawa in the 90s. I've seen more recent videos than this where he plays his gold Yanagisawa also. I wonder why he chose to play a Mark VI on this gig.
Muito bom!
Great "Stolen Moments" , i shared it on my group with the Live Jazz Video's Best Regards from Tim facebook.com/groups/jazzvideo
💙💙💙💙
Why does everyone mix the guitar super loud?
Could somebody tell me who's the arranger?
The arranger is Jörg Achim Keller, who also conducts the concert.
hrbigband Any info on where we could purchase the charts? Looking specifically for this arrangement
who did this arrangement
The arranger is Jörg Achim Keller, who also conducted the concert. (Video info is now completed.)
@@hrbigband Check out the rapid arrangement on the Swiss Suite LP 1971 from the stellar pick up band.
that looks like Jim Pisano on Tenor....
Suis heureux😅.
very good Big Band and arrangement, but only second best compared to Frank Zappa's version on Broadway the Hard Way
