The former Rhode Island Malleable Iron Works dating back to 1918 began redevelopment in the early 2000's. Most of the complex couldn't be saved, and all but two buildings were demolished: the original offices, which were restored and now operate as the Iron Works Tavern, and the former machine building that we're exploring today. 0:00 Intro and History 0:40 Exterior 1:05 First Floor 2:19 Second Floor 3:26 Third Floor 4:55 Hole in the Wall / Thanks for Watching! 5:09 Photos 7:30 Outro and End Cards Thanks for watching! I grew up in this Hillsgrove neighborhood in the late 50s and early 60s. I remember this building and the complex well. The local penny candy store (Roy's) was almost adjacent and we elementary students went there often right after school. I've walked , biked, and driven by this building 1000s of times. Never knew what was inside. The ironworks and the adjoining Leviton's were huge employers and ran 3 shifts. YOu could hear the hum of the ironworks all night, even from a distance. Never knew what kind of ironwork went on there though. PS the restored cafe has great food. Try the lentil cake appetizer dish. Too bad no one could save Levitons. There is a huge amount of history here if you are a Warwick native. Look up Mr. Hill. Mr. Jefferson. Mr. Kilvert. Elizabeth Hill. Jubenville, Dogtown, St. Francis church, and The Elizabeth Mill.

I used to go to Hillsgrove Roller Skating Rink every weekend. Not far from there.
