Mmm-hmm. That was really kind of Oscar to defend Lenny like that. Even though Oscar can be exasperating and selfish, he is still a good person who is willing to make things right, and he really did had a good character development when he realized how much his lie has affected him and can't continue to live a lie anymore. That what makes Oscar a relatable character, and he's something very unique.
And he even said he and Lenny are best friends.

The confession scene is one of my favorite scenes in the movie too, and it was very heartwarming and very emotional at the same time.
Oscar completely understands that he can no longer live a lie and couldn't take it anymore after he realized how much harm his lie has caused and has affected him as well as the ones he cared about such as Angie, he has finally told the truth which was the right thing to do and living a lie is no way for anybody to live since it has serious consequences.
Also, besides telling the truth, he managed to mend the broken father-son relationship of Lenny and Don Lino by getting Don Lino to understand that Lenny is already perfect just the way he is and he has finally accepted him for who he is, managed to reconcile with Angie and apologizing for hurting her so much as well as telling her that he was actually a somebody the whole time since he has always cared about her so much and treats her with respect, and has brought peace and harmony to Southside Reef where fish and sharks bury the hatchet and get along which makes him a true hero.
Oscar has a really good character development after he learned from his mistakes and saw the error of his ways, and he realized that friendship, family, and love is much more important and has more value than money and fame. All he had to do was let go of his insecurities after he dealt with the traumantic experience during his childhood, learn to accept himself for who he is and that he is his own person, and learn to appreciate what he already has in his life.

Oscar: Move everybody outta the way
Oscar did the most noble thing he's ever done. Finally telling everybody the truth.
Unfortunately, if this movie was consistent with trying to be as close to the real world as it had been, telling the truth would've actually ruined Oscar's life. He would've probably gone to jail for fraud, and be sued by every product placement that exists for everything he, Angie, and their kids/grandkids have/would have.
The only thing Oscar really lost by lying was his friendship with Angie; which if he didn't say it at the beginning of the movie, there'd be no way to tell that he values Angie as his friend at all.
Fortunately for Oscar, though, he is just given the Wale Wash simply because the writers wanted to throw in a rap battle dance party ending.

Yes, that's absolutely right. Oscar telling everybody the truth was the most noble thing he's ever done, and it was the right thing to do. Also, when his Sharkslayer scam began to spiral out of control, he almost lost Angie because of it and he doesn't didn't want to lose Angie as his best friend because he was always valued his friendship so much and cared about her so much.
Oh, and by the way, Oscar totally understood that he can no longer live a lie since it's very wrong and living a lie is no way for anybody to live. So, he couldn't take it anymore and decides to tell the truth since he can't continue with pretending to be something that he's no and continue with his Sharkslayer scam since how much harm it caused.

@@coolkid7377 While that is true he ended the conflict, going back to the consistency with the real world subject again, product placements and people of authority would've ignored that in trying to get Oscar held accountable for fraud.
I'm not saying that I don't agree with Oscar ending the conflict between the sharks and the reef, or especially standing up for Lenny to his father, but what I am saying is that this isn't exactly the type of movie that should have the "everyone lived happily ever after and sung kumbaya" ending. It feels out of place for a movie that was only set underwater with talking fish as a way to capitalize on the success of Finding Nemo, but otherwise had a plot where it could've taken place in say New York City or Chicago, and it would've been less confusing.
I mean, the movie's logic is probably the only reason why Oscar didn't go to jail for fraud and have a huge lawsuit against him, and also why he was still famous at the end. Like I said, if the movie's world had stayed consistent, he would've at least been on trial for fraud. Maybe he would've gotten off because he did end the conflict between the sharks and the fish, but he would've still had to go through a huge trial before that happened. Also, besides wanting to be famous, Oscar never really had much of a motivation, and as far as I know, had no interest in running the whale wash, so I don't know how to feel about him just being given the whale wash at the end. I mean, maybe if he had a dream of wanting to be like his father, that would've played out better, but from what I can tell, he wanted more than what his father did. This is far from the worst movie ever, but it does have a lot of major plot holes that make this movie feel like it should've been proofread and rewritten a few more times.
The only time in the movie where Oscar actually kind of pulls a real shark slayer.

Epic scene and emotional scene together, the chase is awesome along with the music too showing Oscar taking on Don Lino on his own when nobody else thought anyone would take him down, being very very brave to face Lino and then having him realize his mistakes with his son to accepting him for who he is. That to me is a true hero, and because of that, Oscar not only told the truth but he settled the peace between the sharks and the reef.
You're right, that what makes Oscar a true hero. Not only he told the truth, he brought peace to the reef where fish and sharks have decided to bury the hatchet, and things have changed for the better after he did the right thing and told the truth.
That scene was very epic and emotional as well as so heartwarming, and it was a good thing that Don Lino have finally accepted his son Lenny for who he is after he realized his mistake by questioning him for who he is, and it's also a good thing that Oscar realized his own mistakes and the error of his ways after he saw how much harm his lie has caused and hurt the ones he cared about.
Also, Oscar is one of my favorite characters in the movie, and he really did had a good character development when he realized his lie has done nothing but caused trouble for himself and the ones he cared about, and since his lie has caused more harm than good, he almost lost his friendship with Angie because of it, and he honestly didn't want to lose his longtime friendship with Angie because he valued it so much and cared about Angie so much. Oscar realizing his mistakes and the error of his ways make him a relatable character, and he's already a good character in his own way :)

This movie literally made almost every significant mob movie reference in the books.
Robert De Niro was in Good Fellas & The Godfather (2 I know!), Scarface & Godfather 1 was referenced as seen here, the Sopranos were referenced; Frankie was played by Chris Moltisanti, Luca was played by Big Pussy Bonnespiro, Frank Vincent was in the movie. Joe Pesci was referenced in this movie.

I never thought I'd say this but throughout the film Don Lino truly does a good impression of being a gangster, Oscar has this friendship with Lenny and Sykes which in a good way has paid off but I love this idea of seeing the film that involves a gangster chase in case there were issues with facing the music however Oscar managed to do so at the end as Don Lino and Lenny became loyal since
Lino takes the time to let out an ominous “you’re mine now” instead of just eating Oscar when he has the chance because every kids movie needs a happy ending.

You're a shark, so you probably ate people he knew personally; you're basically the Godfather-- which means you're pretty much ruling through crime and intimidation; and when Oscar couldn't pay the debt that you set forward, someone tried to kill him. That scene is hilarious!
Oscar truly did the right thing when he finally admitted he isn't a sharkslayer. He realized how much his sharkslayer sham has affected him and the ones he cares about. If he hadn't stopped the lie, he would've lost something more precious than money: Angie's trust. He was finally tired of living as someone he is not.
I strongly agree with you, and Oscar had a really good characer development.

I did love how much of a badass Oscar actually was in the final fight against Lino. It shows he really is capable of doing great things when he makes an effort and puts his mind to it.
