  • HTG's Dr. Myers goes over the origins of Humic and Fulvic Acids and discusses the benefits and methods of using them in your garden.
    Current scientific studies show that the fertility of soil is determined to a very large extent by the content of humic acids. Their high cation-exchange capacity (CEC), the oxygen content as well as the above average water holding capacity are the reasons for the high value of using humic acids for improving soil fertility and plant growth. The most important feature of humic acids lies in their ability to bind insoluble metal ions, oxides and hydroxides, and to release them slowly and continually to plants when required.
    Fulvic acid is the lowest molecular weight portion of humic substances. By definition it will be golden in color where humic acid will be brown to black. Because of its small molecular size, fulvic acid is able to penetrate the leaf and even the mitochondria of a cell which makes it great for foliar sprays and root drenches. By comparison humic acid is a fantastic soil conditioner and better for dry broad cast and soil/soil-less application. Typically each manufacturer will provide a product analysis differentiating the fulvic from the humic; however some states do not accept fulvic acid analysis and will refer to all substances as humic acids. To further confuse things, a standardized industry method for analyzing humic substances does not exist. This creates a wide range of concentrations and analysis for humic products. At the end of the day it is best to conduct bioassays and test the products yourself to see which one will perform best.

    Thanks for summarizing the use and usefulness of humic acid v. fulvic acid. It was useful, as I am using it on my tall fescue lawn, and doing so about once every month. You note some of the benefits I've found elsewhere, which gives me some additional comfort that it is generally good for the soli and plant (in my case, tall fescue). Just a side note: at 3:22 you don't use the most common pronunciation of chelator, which is kē-ˌlā-tər. Picky yes, but I did a lot of chemistry a long, long time ago.

    You see humic acid referenced as a supplement for lawns. Can it also be used for normal plants? Can it be used for container plants?
    How often does humic acid need to be replaced in a container soil application? Is it always applied as a liquid to the soil?

    • @Nika-Zhang

      Humic acid is suitable for any crops and plants.

      I've used humic acid on my lawn (Nature's Lawn) and now in my plants, outside and container. I've had explosive growth! Once every three or four weeks.

    • @losclaveles
      @losclaveles 11 месяцев назад

      If you are growing in containers you likely bought the soil, and its of decent to good quality, and thus you won't receive much benefit from humic acid. You get the most bang for the buck when you apply humic acids to poor soils

    What about ones derived from humus like fulvex but then I found abother on amazon that’s has 55% Fulvic and 60% humid which numbers and it comes from lesonardite which I hear is great but is humus dif than leaonardite.
    Would you get fulvex liquid bc has 72 trace minerals with fulvic acid or should I buy the powder that has both

  • @Brumbrumauto

    When to use it? How ofte? I got yellow leaves from it in super soil mix becasue it reduces N without EM. With EM and HA I got PK burns but still yellow leaves on the 3/25 weak tomatos ones.

    • @Brumbrumauto
      @Brumbrumauto 3 года назад +1

      If everything is bio fertilized perfectly, and you give HA and then its 25% too much fertilizer, or if you give less into the earth at mixing, then it will be depleted 25% earlier.

    The Wikipedia article on fulvic acid doesn't so much discuss its benefits as describe what it is chemically. One of the things it mentions is the difficulty of measuring its concentration, the inaccurate claims made by many sellers of it, and a standardized testing method that was developed and agreed on by scientists around 2015. Soooo... What brands can be trusted and make accurate claims about their products' concentration based on this testing method? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance for any good answers.

    How long does it take for HA to improve the soil structure? I have sandy loam and clay soil. I started using HA to supplement my fertization of my lawn.

    • @peterpan-cr3we

      You should try adding raw Leonardite to the loam and soil at a ration of 1 kg per 30 square feet. do this every year for five years and it will build your soil levels up. If this is for your lawn make sure to thatch out all the weeds and plant new seed. The Humic acid will help strengthen your grass roots so weeds cant invade again.

      If u can get your hands on a wood chipper, you're in business.... just start chewing up organic material, tree bark, dried weeds and leaves, all that. It'll break down fast for soil structure

      True, the word is derived from Greek so ‘CH’ is pronounced like a ‘K’ (ˈkē-ˌlā-tər). Mispronounced in this video yes, but we guarantee the scientific explanation is 100% accurate.
