- Today the topic is how to crisply paint the crush points that can be found on some naval air planes. It is somewhat involving but much easier than I initially anticipated.

There is another, easy way that resurrects your good old brush, that is, doing it free hand. But with a trick, of course, which makes your day. It works best with darker colors covering lighter ones, such in this case. Prepare a red color solution enough diluted and containing some detergent, and the same solution but without color, that is, water + detergent. Take a good, finely-pointed brush and pre-wet with this solution the rim, wiping any excess off with the same brush dried over a cloth. Now, follow the same procedure with the red solution. Since you got soap in it, thus the surface tention is significantly lowered, and the surface is wet, the color will run smoothly along the rim with no pain and very precisely. Let it dry and repeat to get saturation. This trick works with sharp edges, like in this case. Joy & happiness my friend! 😉
Thanks for the tip mate, I personally dont like painting with a brush. Takes too much time to do properly IMO.
Very useful tutorial! I always used a brush to this kind of work. Thank you for sharing.

Nice results but a bit backwards to me? I'd paint the flat interior area the color needed and let it dry. Then apply some masking tape to the interior and quickly trim it to size. Now spray the red, at the angle shown, to prevent the color landing on the exterior. Remove the masking and done. More than one way to do things but masking the pinch zones is a bit awkward and then having to spray a coat opaque enough to cover the red overspray can lead to paint creeping under the tape. My two cents.
If you spray at that angle under the masking tape you’ll get bleed, especially given the uneven surface of the centre.
This is the way.
@Jerry Volpini Yeah it is a bit backward but it is also so much easier to mask the flat red areas than where the white is. Especially the uncountable number of hinges of the bomb bay doors.
@Josh Masking tape is especially inefective over positive rivets.
Just a comment for the
