Excellent breakdown of a classic album. I had no idea so many extra tracks had been included on the various b-sides, 12"s and flexidiscs. Great to see a lot of unfamiliar artwork too courtesy of the singles sleeves.
My preferred tracklisting for "Pornography Of Despair" : 1. The Nature Of Virtue (7") 2. The Nature Of Virtue (12") 3. Mental Healing Process 4. Absolute Liberation 5. Dumb As Death's Head 6. Waiting For The Upturn 7. Leap Into The Wind 8. Three Orange Kisses From Kazan 9. Fruit Of The Heart 10. Soup Of Mixed Emotions
Is there a differemce between Soul mIning (12") on Sweet Bird of Truth b-side and (Special Version) on Beaten Generation b-side? I got rid on my record deck ages ago (CDs are the new vinyl - well for working class lads like us anyway :-D) so can't play my old Beaten Generation 12" to compare to the first 12" mix i got online. I do agree the 12" mix is better (reminds me of Talk Talk - Happiness is Easy) and yes I agree Matt Johnson is one of the few artists to really get track order right on every album.
Hi do you know if the re print 2022 album day vinyl that was released has the single “perfect” on it? It isn’t on the track listing but it’s in the description so I’m not sure what to believe, or maybe it’s a secret song?
@@brooksjonx probably not, Perfect was added on in America and otherwise was only on a limited version of the 1983 LP with a 12" of bonus tracks (it was a rerecording I think, the single is a very different version)
My prefered track order for Pornography of Despair. 01 Three Orange Kisses from Kazan 02 The Nature of Virtue (extended) 03 The Sinking Feeling (original) 04 Absolute Liberation 05 Mental Healing Process 06 Dumb as Death's Head 07 Cold Spell Ahead 08 Waitin' for the Upturn 09 Leap Into the Wind 10 Fruit of the Heart 11 Soup of Mixed Emotions| ++ Plus I stuck these guys on the end on my CDR version. 12 Controversial Subject 13 Black And White 14 What Stanley Saw 15 Untitled
One of my most treasured original pressings with the Perfect bonus 12 inch. A timeless gem.

They're the same mix on both. :)
@@markreed4543 oh good. Just bought the Beaten Generation 3” CD at a snip compared to Sweet Bird :-)

@@markreed4543oh interesting! Yeah fair enough I thought as much, looks like the written description is just incorrect then, thanks mate
It’s a fantastic album one my dad played to me when I was young in the 90s so I have a lot of early memories with this album haha

There is a skip at the beginning of Nature of Virtue, before the vocals come in. Is that the vinyl rip or the actually recording?
@matttaylor7080 yes, it's the actual recording. It could have been mixed slightly better because it does sound like a skip in the vinyl...
