Spirals keep me up at night
All is vortex in 369
I’ve discovered why red is associated with gold. When you break gold metal down to a practically liquid state it is red.
I'm sorry, but the spiral sorcery was well known before Sellen, and she lern it before turning into the Graven-Mass.
After fighting Jerren, when you talk to her, you can insist in that moment to learn sorceries, and she will teach you that exact sorcery.
Also, if you do all the steps of her quest except for setting free Master Lusat, she will be in the academy as a human and still teach you the sorcery.
So no, that sorcery is not reached through the Graven-Mass. She just wasn't at the academy when it was discovered or didn't have the time for it.
@@GrimmWitchands Yeah that was my mistake, some other people have also pointed this out. I still think they are connected due to the fact the shard spiral twinsages are the only masks found in the graven schools. Instead of graven schools leading to the spiral, I now think the shard spiral makes one a candidate to become a school if that makes sense.
@Stormking66324 what you did for me in this video is making me realize that detail about Karolos and Lazulis' conspectus been the only ones to form the Graven Masses.
The Moon and the Meteors...
Thank you
Bro maxed out his int
But at what cost?
I never made the connection between the spiral shard and the graven schools, the amount of parallels between concepts in the base game and the dlc is crazy. As for the the Elden Beast, I agree, it must have arrived at the latest just in time for Placidusax's reign.
hey, it's worth noting that Shard Spiral is in fact available before Sellen transforms, but only after she has taken up her control of the school and started research again into the primeval current (apologies if anyone else brought this up but i thought it relevant), it's my favourite spell so i grab it every time i do an int build >:3
Thanks for letting me know! I definitely did miss this, but thankfully I think the overall theory still holds up, instead of the schools “unlocking” the spiral, its the reverse.
Exceptional work! The parallels between the Graven Mass and Hornsent jars was probably my favourite discovery from he DLC but I never realised the full scope of its implications and I'm glad someone gave this topic the attention it deserves.
I'm not sure if this would help with your future videos but you mentioned how the practice of Sorcerers embedding their souls into Glintstone dates back to the astrologers of the mountaintops but I think the origins were probably older since their creation seems to parallel the production of Sprite Stones which were created by the Rauh civilisation who we know the astrologers interacted with. There seems to be a sort of timeline of magical practices emerging here that traces the influence the older civilisations had on their successors (spritestones - primal glintstones - graven mass - hornsent jars - grafting) that I feel would be incredibly useful for future lore discussion.
Speaking of spiral sorceries; I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts on the thorn sorceries since the concepts implied by their item description seem particularly relevant to the topics brought up in this video.
TLDR: Great stuff man keep it up.
Thanks and good points! Especially about the thorn sorceries, since red glintstone is essentially a specific type of crucible amber (And therefore scales with faith) created through sacrifice. I haven’t pinned down my thoughts on the blood star enough to include it in this video but it’s definitely an interesting topic. As for the commonalities between Rauh and the astrologers, while I’m not fully convinced of the idea they existed at the same time, there’s definitely similar cultural practices so I’d agree they’re at least related.
I feel like Rauh were the first astrologers before they were truly astrologers. 🤔
@@twodumbgamers9285 well, there was indeed an infatuation with the Stars - not scientifically, but spiritually and religiously - before the Astrologers, and then the Carians, ended up developing it into its scientific purposes
I’ve long struggled with the difference between “ancient vitality” and “residual life”, but then I learned that Residual Life is also a scientific concept - it’s the measurement of the remaining time before a system breaks down.
The Primeval Current, I agree, has a relationship with “the Crucible”, and thus amber glintstone. And both are related to the microcosm.
I think the empty microcosm of Metyr, coupled with the “ruin” of the Primeval Current, and the idea that all life was blended together in (but not explicitly said to originate from) the Crucible are all hints that The Greater Will has died.
Perhaps The Greater Will was the star cluster referenced in Stars of Ruin. Regardless, I think the empty microcosm shows us that the Greater Will is now missing, and the Primeval Current is a glimpse into the abyss where the Greater Will should be, or better put, it is a look at the debris of The Great Will’s creation or death. It’s a realization that the universe has a residual life, a timer before the system collapses to entropy.
So one interpretation of the order of events here would be:
1. The Greater Will breaks away from the One Great, creating the explosion of life and stardust Ymir mentions.
2. The Greater Will influences life in The Lands Between via Metyr and the Elden Beast (meaning, I think life already existed before either of their arrivals).
3. The Greater Will dies, leaving Metyr abandoned. An unnamed Astrologer, either before or after Metyr’s abandonment, witnessed the Primeval Current and thus the evidence of that death of the Greater Will.
4. Proof of the implied “residual life” of the universe then rains down on the Lands Between in the form of glintstone.
You’ll notice that all levels of runes, when broken, have some manner of blue magic swirl around you. I suspect for the time being glintstone’s life is life created through the act of separating from the One Great. It’s the formation of the universe, and the evolution of life therein. But amber glintstone specifically is the life force of the shattered Greater Will. It’s life infuses everything in the lands between because of the arrival of the Elden Beast, and the mixing of life via the Crucible.
Some random notes, the two finger ruins are restively gold and blue themed. And if the Great Will is a dead star, what is the implication of the Blood Star seen by people who live is pure black of blindness?
Very interesting point about residual life, I haven’t heard that before but I definitely ties into the idea of ruin at the end of the stars procession well! As for the blood star, I’m still gathering my thoughts. The related red glintstone seems to be a type of crucible amber (hence the faith scaling), and the idea of darkness allowing prisoners to see the blood star is reflected in many other cases (think of how blindfolds are a commonality between the GO prophets, Hyetta, and the thorn sorcerers).
Gideon also realizes that queen Marika wants us to "continue to struggle. Unto eternity."

You’ve quickly become my favorite lore RUclipsr. Banger after banger
This is absolutely astounding, you're seeing the dots and im here to watch. Cant wait for more!
Love to here it, I’ll be posting more soon!
Love all of the amazing videos!!! Two other examples of the amber are the miquellan knights sword (which directly parallels glintstone and amber), but more importantly on the talisman of lords bestowal which might serve to strengthen/reform/expand some of your points on the golden amber :) Keep up the great work!
This keeps getting better!
The depth of this game continues to amaze me more and more the deeper it is unraveled. Great video.
Shard Spiral i s my favorite spell in this game.. also the implications of philosophy it carries with the equilibrium of two opposites... just to be misrepresented as a failure cuz it didnt fit the agenda
Still convinced to this day that the Gravenmasses Seeds are sent into the void to birth Stars trying to prevent the ruin of the stars and close the circle (we are made of stars but we also are able to create them) but carrying the risk to birth Astels (Malformed Stars) thus why the practice got banned
But I wonder where Arcane comes from, and how it factors into, the cosmic matrix. If Faith and Intelligence help understand the same cosmic makeup, and factor into the cosmos and its creation/continuity, then what is Arcane in the overall foundation of ER's cosmology? It is said to be "innate", so I wonder if it is the resistence to becoming something else. The stat resists holy damage and Deathblight and increases discovery. It also strengthens bloodloss abilities and Dragon Communions for Bayle and Greyoll incantations and is stated to be the "Secrets of the gods" in Japanese. It is also strange that it is so linked to bloodletting as bloodletting allows a body to purify itself of impurities (such as microplastics and other foreign particles...like Gold). Personally, I think Arcane is the actual Natural order of Life BEFORE the Greater Will exerted control over the Lands Between. I still think that the Greater Will was a colonizer and that the denizens are only the "children of the GW" insomuch as it found and then molded the Crucible of Life, first via Metyr (Fingers forming bloodred clay and firing the clay in a kiln, or FORGE of the Giants) and second by the Elden Beast (gold as a means to repair broken ceramics, or Kintsugi). This would also explain why Albinaurics use Arcane and are rejected by the Golden Order, and why the Lamenter increases Arcane: because they are resistant to the Greater Will, as is Bayle and Greyoll, the latter being the mother of Drakes. I still hold to the belief that Drakes came first, and the stony dragons came second. Bayle is the "oldest, vilest dragon", and he rejected Placidusax's rule (and therefore the GW). Thus, they scale on Arcane instead of Faith.
Good question and interesting explanations! In my eyes arcane’s ties to discovery, as well as Sellen’s crown and Ymir’s staff show that arcane related to investigating the foundations of the world and comprehending mysteries. Essentially going further than faith or intelligence can take you. This would also explain its ties to blood, as the formless mother is the most secretive and mysterious of the outer gods (that we see in game at least). I was never sure how to explain dragon communion though, and I think your theory makes a lot of sense!
Bro that opening was enthralling.
Great video!
That twinsage conspectus crown is very interesting.
The Miquellan Knight's Sword also has amber in it if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if the description adds anything to this discussion, though.
Thanks! The Miquellan Knight Sword does have green/gold amber from the haligtree, and is modeled after the carian knight’s sword, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it though so didn’t end up including it in the video. In the description it’s described as “Ill-starred” perhaps due to the haligtree’s decline. The word starred definitely feels intentional.
@@Stormking66324it’s the sun parallel of the carian knight sword being the moon. And farum azula and the sun have a connection as well which could draw a link between elphael and farum azula
The law of regression compels life to meld together. All must become One again.
*cough* Frenzied Flame
Excellent analysis, great editing, and very good vocal pacing! Waiting for you to blow up, best of luck 😊
Also, in Bloodborne, the Great Ones umbilical cord is a spiral full of eyes! :D
Ride the spiral till the end
We may just go where no ones been
Spiral out, keep going
Awesome video! You're honestly becoming one of my favorite Elden Ring lore channels and I have only recently discovered you. As a fan of everything Elden Ring, I have something I would like to share with you.
I found an interesting detail that I haven't seen discussed anywhere and figured I would bring it up here. With the revelations in the DLC surrounding the Numen/Shaman and their connection to trees. I found the item descriptions relating to the Guardians of the Minor Erdtree's to be curious. From what I have understood is that the birth of the Erdtree is directly related to Marika's ascension to godhood. The Guardian Garb description mentions, "In accordance with an ancient pact with the Erdtree, it is said that their deaths led not to destruction, but instead to renewed, eternal life as guardians." But, if you acquire the Guardian Garb (Full Bloom) version the item description provides more context to their origins. It states, "It is said that the blood-red flowers blooming on their backs mark the senescence of their ancient pact. Perhaps the guardians are part tree already."
Are the Guardians potentially what's left of Marika's people? I would be curious to hear your thoughts on this and maybe there are further connections that I have overlooked. Keep up the great work!
Thanks that means a lot! And that is an interesting detail! I’ll look into it more, specifically what the original Japanese says. It would be very interesting if the guardians were a tree-people from the start, as you’re proposing, but it could also be saying that they are simply turning into trees because they have been resurrected, marking their pact fulfilled.
I like your montage in the beginning. Very good video and research
Amazing video. A class above many of the lore videos being made since the dlc
I love your videos and always discover something new when I watch them 🫶 I was sorta thinking about a similar concept - if a spiral is an energy that is directed (like towards the skies or the enemy), then what if the energy is channeled into the same starting point… it seems the graven school of mages could be one of the answers.
Objects of Faith and Intellect having the same origins is something that goes all the way back to Demon's Souls.
"Regression is the pull of meaning; that all things yearn eternally to converge."
Ah fuck now I'm spiralling
Loved the video AND the opening!!
In the game files, the Elden Beast is referred to as a Star Dragon. I always thought that was just cool as hell
Uzumaki coded... I love spirals though lol for this exact reason. It's a brush with the sublime. Unknowable, terrifying, but beautiful
There’s also a twinsage sorcerer who fires the spiral in the academy glintstone cave
Uzumaki....
I'd like to hear your thougths on the difference between single-spirals like the Spira Incantation, Enir-Illim, and others ; and the double-spirals like the Glintstone Spiral, the blade made of radagon and the knife used by Ranni.
That’s an interesting question! The odd thing is that a lot of hornsent imagery contains the double spiral (specifically their seal, which even talks about the tower in its description). Enir Ilim isn’t actually complete, so perhaps the single spiral was intended to become a helix, but Marika sealing the tower prevented this?
@Stormking66324 Maybe, I dunno. I never thought about the difference between closed spirals and open spirals before this video, but I still think there's something important about single vs double spirals. A single spiral can never close by itself.
You could be an academy conspectus founder with this knowledge...
Something something about TOOL.
Something something:
Swing on the spiral
Of our divinity
And still be a human.
"Reaching up, reaching out, reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me" hits differently in this context. Primordial sorcery.
Banger of a video as always, this theory reminded me a lot of outer wilds, it's my favorite game and i think everyone should have this experience
Outer wilds is probably my favourite game next to the souls series, and It definitely influenced the end of the video, great catch!
@@Stormking66324 omg I'm actually so glad to hear that, I've been eating your content up, keep it up, love all your videos so much🫶
@Stormking66324 love to hear that, love your videos too, keep it up♡
Before I watch, I want to give my crackpot theory... What if the One Great was basically space itself (not like celestial bodies, but like the area in which celestial bodies reside in)? The Greater Will splitting from it basically caused the Big Bang (perhaps either caused solely by the split, or the Frenzy Flame struggling to stop the split and that resulting in an explosive tear) and eventually formed all the celestial bodies (AKA Outer Gods, Fallingstar Beasts, and others). It would also explain there's such a deep tie between the Greater Will, the cosmos and sorcery. Beyond that, Elden Beast distinctly has that cosmic look to its body and the Frenzied Flame literally looks like a black hole that shoots out sun-like flams and even seems to radiate a solar flare type effect around it's flames when concentrated.
I don’t think that’s a crackpot theory at all! The rupture of the one great is definitely analogous to the Big Bang.
Being turned to an everlasting stone, either by Intelegance or dragon hearts, seems to be a fate worse than death.
But turning into a tree is the opposite.
Trees are near everlasting and alive.
Stone is everlasting, but isnt living
ER shamans and Ds3 Hollows become trees
Yo! I just want to let you know that you are one of my new favourite channels on all of YT. Your video on the 'Original Sin' was my first exposure and i was floored. You make great videos bro. Keep it up and i am 100% positive that you'll make it as far as you want. Hope you had a merry Christmas and great start to 2025! Love from Canada
Thanks that means a lot! And I’m also from Canada!
Awesome theory and vid - you’re on to something for sure.
great video, cant put into words how much i liked it. the keen eye for detail especially about the twin helm was brilliant, love this scientist and historic analysis of the lore, for me residual life is very near to mineral matter in a sense how mineral like iron and elements that are found in mineral like carbon are the bases of our organic life, which is in my mind the golden sap, the golden ember which is very close to our understanding of organic like and the life of trees as organic compounds are essential to living lifeforms.as you talked about fate and intelligence being two different methods of understand the world i think intelligence is like the scientific method and Fate means understanding the Lands Between through a spiritual and fate drive lens.
i have 5 more minutes in the video left so i may have to come back and elaborate on the part that i missed
Thanks that means a lot! I’m a fan of your interpretation of residual life that’s interesting to think about!
Incredible video!
There has been some controversy on which came first the Crucible or the Elden Ring but your take on it is interesting and the connection to the Primeval Current was well discussed and definitely something I wanna take another look at. This vid was great. Definitely hope you do one on GEQ. Interested on your theory on her
Thanks! And yeah the Gloam Eyed Queen is very interesting and I’ll probably make a video on her and the godskins at some point! I have no idea why so many creators have decided she has to be another character though hahaha
yeah some people think she might be a serpent and some think she might be another aspect of Marika. The second one is a little more interesting to me than the first but I’m still leaning more towards her being Melina. Looking forward to your theory on the GEQ
hold up, let him cook!
Where have you been all my tarnished life???
So glad I found your channel! Your videos always give me something new to think about that many of the other bigger creators seem to overlook! Keep it up!
You propose some interesting hypothesis. They would explain a few things. The god that fled Placidusax could have done so because she saw the end. The Greater Will might have abandoned the Land Between seeing it as wasted effort since everything will be destroyed anyway. Miquella and Ranni's reign as gods both end after 1,000 years. Why would they have to come to an end at all unless they know that the world itself will end in 1,000 years.
5:12 Spiraltree seal is made of sullied amber and it's description implies it was made not by the hornsent but by the soldiers of the erdtree, implying it was made by those who originally worshipped the erdtree in secret Sacred seal of soiled amber engraved with a spiral tree design.
The majesty of the white tower,
stretching to reach the gods,
even inspired a secret faith in the invaders,
the people of the Erdtree.
The fact that it's "sullied" amber might imply that the it was desecrated by the former erdtree worshippers in an act of defiance or to show their new allegience. Just something I'd point out.
Here's what I think. Spirals are the symbol of life in elden ring. Not the crucible of life, but all life in all it's forms. We know that the stars are literally living beings in elden ring, as glintstone contains their primeval life essence. We know that the one of the symbols of the crucible of life is the spiral (specifically among the hornsent, the crucible knights and the misbogotten don't seem to have such a close association) but that's not because the spiral is of the crucible. I think the crucible is of the spiral, because the crucible represents all life on the "planet".
People have really got to stop misinterpreting the Godslayer Greatsword. It does not say that all black flames get channeled from the sword. It says the sword can channel the black flames. No, the Godskin apostles are not drawing power from the sword. The sword can just channel the same black flame that their own weapons can also channel.
“The black flames wielded by the apostles are channeled from this sword.” Unless the description is different in Japanese, I’d say that it is at least up for interpretation. Either way the symbolism doesn’t change.
I hope you don't become a ball man this knowledge is some primeval current type shit
To late…
Very nice work
you gain goku's big blue laser! was it worth crystalizing my brain? yes
I think that Marika summoned the Elden Beast via the Lands Between using the life force contained and concentrated within the Gateway of Divinity, hence the Elden Beast being a golden (or rather, amber) star, as opposed to the lifeless (even literally, looking at the skull) Fallingstar Beasts
I'd suggest checking out Hawkshaw's video on the importance of color in Elden Ring. Blue represents intellect and the rational mind. Red represents life itself and untamed emotion. Yellow represents chaos, madness, and despair. Gold, as the opposite of yellow, represent order, meaning, and divinity.
Primeval current is headwaters? As in Fountainhead? Given the strong parallels in all of from softwares games this immediately makes me think of sekiro
In game: Intelligence seems to be tied to knowledge and control outside of oneself. Faith, intuition and inate power. Arcane, is the unknown, where power is bestowed from an outer source.
In my perspective i believe that the primeval current is the same as the spiral, its the bing bang of the greater will, its his last breath. I also believe he is dying and fracturing himself to create individual lives, thats why myter lost contact of her father. The greater will is the primeval current and the crucible where they were part of him as he was the one great.
Do you think the ruin at the end of the procession of stars could have something to do with the law of regression? The stars expelling the last of their energy as things reach some kind of entropy state?
Yeah I did consider that! It would definitely fit with the idea of “the end of fate”.
Love the Living failures intro. =)
Thanks! It’s a great track
@@Stormking66324 I'm just waiting for someone to do Hail the nightmare. =D
Great Video! I do have to say though that the Elden Beast being the source of all life contradicts what we in lore as it is said that life came from the One Great being fractured by the Greater Will which could mean that the crucible is the essence of the One Great rather than Elden Beast.
Interesting point, I don’t personally think that the crucible is/was the one great, as in the lands between it is only related to gold/red life, not blue glintstone at all. In my eyes the one great “ruptured”, which gave rise to the stars and the primeval current, and as I said in the video, the Elden beast was the crucible leading to all life in the lands between. I could see your theory being right, if you interpret the crucible being “where all life was melded together” to include the life of the stars as well. The reason I don’t personally subscribe to that line of thinking is because the crucible seems to be solely associated with organic beings and traits, as opposed to the life within stone that is glintstone and the other stars. Thanks for commenting!
@@Stormking66324 thanks for reply, so you mean to say that the Elden Beast was more of a seed that the Great Will planted along with the crucible? That does sound very plausible, My perspective in the timeline is that the One Great was probably some sort of Supernova event which gave birth to multiple beings (Life, Planets, Stars) mainly because Ymir specifically says we are "Stardust" which indicates that the GW probably fracture a Star/Sun to Create the Lands Between and his "Children" (Metyr, Elden Beast etc) and some other planets. The parts im unsure of is the origins of the Crucible as it could be from the Elden Beast or even Metyr, but I believe it goes further back, I think that the reason GW needed to Supernova the OG is to get not only the raw materials but the essence of the OG to fuel Organic Life as Crucible is sort of a metaphysical current rather than a physical thing. Anyway thats just the basis of my reasoning. Again Great Video! definitly helped my perspective on the Cosmos of Elden Ring!
Irl goldmask
I think you have to die to make a spell and that is what happened to Lusat/ Azur/ Thopps
You and Nameless Singer making very similar points. =)
I was LITERARY currently pondering about the connection between the two cathedrals in the game and all the rises ESPECIALLY heretical rise
Which seems to me the original rise but dam this game has become my life my Bible my religion lmao
Oh if you’re curious about the two manus cathedrals you’re not ready for the Nox video that’s coming this year!
@ I can’t wait I want to know because if the connection with Marika the fingers and Metyr is what I think it is then I was right the whole time about the greater will
My theory is that the Greater Will is a family of outer gods with Order being the grandfather of 6 or 7 outer gods it’s been battling with since Bayle and the Hornsent discovered the other outer gods and or was influenced by them
The fingers represent the hangs of god almighty, the golden order.
Which can be also viewed as its offspring
There’s always depictions of 6 7 8
Mainly 8 and 6 but 6 divine towers 6 spiral Pilars in the boss battle against Leda etc. etc.
There’s 6 great tunes we collect
Bruh im spiraling out
ya cooked great job :)

Mythological algorithm pull.
I'm binging everything

Glad you’re enjoying!
mate hell yes
Row row fight the power
Row row fight the powah
Death Lightning is the spiral. Gold = Life. Godwyn was supposed to be Elden Lord. Perhaps betrothed to Ranni. He was Golden because he could wield crucible powers immaculately, even transforming into a large bestial chimeric dragon that would glow gold. Like the Divine Beast which could wield powers of the storm as well as death blight.
I have a side theory that the GEQ was a giant basilisk that Got defeated and Marika used the Rune of the Unborn to turn her into Baby Godwyn. Her link with the spiral (The Godslayer's Greatsword) and the crucible manifested within Godwyn despite Marika turning her into a Blonde, Masculine, Heroic man to keep it at bay.
There is a belief that Marika used her children to bear magics that she could not wield but could control by matronage... Messmer and the serpent...Godwyn and the golden dragon... maybe others. I like this idea.
What was the last armor set his character has on in this video called?? Specifically the torso piece
It’s the fingerprint armour! If that’s not the one you meant I also use the altered Alberich's Robe as well as Yura’s armour with the hooded banished knight helm.
@ excellent! Thank you, good sir! 🫡
You made a minor mistake, the spiral shard has nothing to do with the graven school, you can buy it immediately after beating jerhyn. Sellen's grave form has no bearing on this, it makes sense too because it's a conspectus spell.
Anti spiral
