    Great job HMM. Got to go to the Nationals in 2011. The atmosphere is amazing. Thanks to a friend I got to watch all four nights from a suite. Now I am spoiled.

    Another nice job of capturing the spirit the Knoxville Nationals. I enjoyed the interview with the top 3 finishers. I assume we'll soon get to hear at least part of your conversation with Steve Kinser. I like seeing Kyle Larson take the time to accommodate the autograph requests of many fans rather than just "hiding" between the security people and ignoring everyone. He always makes a good impression while at the track (including taking time to talk with you on a number of occasions).

    • @HistoryMysteryMan
      @HistoryMysteryMan  2 месяца назад

      Thanks again. Yes...I've got some soundbites with Kinser, so I'll do my best to make something out of it. I wanted to get more, but I didn't want to hog all his time. Larson is very good at accommodating the people around him, especially considering he's always being tugged in a million different directions and everyone around him seems to be vying for his time. Thanks again wideslammer; your continual feedback here is very valuable to me. HMM

    The design of the header is called a "Zoomie". It's used is all forms of Drag Racing. And YES it ABSOLUTELY adds down force.

      I interviewed Scott one time, when I was the announcer at Eldora in 1996. He was pitted off turn 2 during the World 100 back when there was no seating up there. He was as nice and as pleasant as could be. HMM

    Wow HMM. Really the next best thing to being there! Unfortunate Kyle couldn’t finish last night’s race. So close it had to hurt a bit, but a successful year despite that bummer. Thanks for the visit to Knoxville!🏁

      You're welcome. Yeah...he just can't catch a break on the Speedways. His car was plenty fast enough, but again caught up in the Big One. Great to see Harrison Burton get his first win though, and the Wood Brothers...their 100th...cool story.

    Another great video! I like how your videos make me feel like I'm actually at the track.
    While Kyle Larson is definitely a generational talent. It's hard to say how he stacks up against other legends that I've watched race (either on TV, in person or both) like Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Scott Dixon, Petty, Earnhardt, Foyt, Andtretti etc. but he's super talented no doubt. I picked up a cool Kyle Larson 2024 Indy 500 ROTY/ Brickyard 400 Winner t-shirt at Milwaukee on the weekend, so there's a tie-in!
    I know Kyle's continually mobbed by people, so he might tune things out, but I'm still surprised he didn't acknowledge you and say "how's it going?' or "who are you" or "stop recording me".
    I haven't followed him too much, (maybe I should start), but from what I've seen Corey Day looks like he might be the next big thing.
    And hard to believe another racing season is winding down. Some of the tracks around here have already crowned their champions. Before we know it I'll be complaining about the cold weather and the salt on the roads and you'll be sitting down with Capt. Darrell!

    • @HistoryMysteryMan
      @HistoryMysteryMan  Месяц назад

      Good stuff Gregg. The thing with Larson is that he's won in every discipline of racecars he's been in. There are great Cup drivers but they're not competing in sprint cars. That said, I can't compare Larson to a Petty or an Earnhardt because neither Petty nor Earnhardt ever wheeled a sprint car. But...if I had to choose ONE driver based on what I've seen over my lifetime, I'd say Larson is the greatest, IMO. Corey Day may be the next big thing, but not yet. I'm good with racing season winding down. Always ready for a change. No problem on winter coming...I love it; it's my favorite season. I get my best work done in the winter. It's the hot and humid of the dog days of summer that I don't care for.

      HMM you make a good point. Although Petty won on every type of NASCAR track imaginable, outside of a brief stint in drag racing and a couple of Trans Am races he never ventured outside of stock cars, same with Earnhardt. You've seen Larson race a lot more than me (I only remember seeing him race early in his career when they ran those races on backstretch short track at Daytona), so you probably are a better judge of how good he is. However a lot of people forget how good a young, uninjured and lean Tony Stewart was in everything he drove.Another name to throw out is Juan Montoya. He won in all the major categories and his car control and lack of fear are legendary. Among his peers Robby Gordon is often mentioned as the most talented or among the most talented drivers they ever raced against. But he was often his own worst enemy and his results were inconsistent. I guess the debate will never end but IMO it's a fun discussion to have.
      And while I really struggle in cold weather (heat not as much so) I do agree it is a good time to get stuff done. Although I always stay busy, it offers a bit of a break from racing, outdoor work and even my job. Plus I love Christmas.

    Just got back from the dirt cup. No doubt Kyle is the best, but watch Cory Day. This 18 year old is the real deal and wins $100,000 at the cup.
