That was a great explanation of such a unique car. Thanks for the detailed look at it. I'll be ordering a couple tomorrow when I get home from work. I hope a museum can get at least one of these cars saved before they all get scrapped.

These are beautiful cars and probably the nicest of my small collection.

Carman 25 years, class one RR, still working. First of all, beautiful model, home run! That said I am glad I model the mid 60s, so I will not be tempted to buy one of these. I had my second closest calls in my career with one of these cars. The engineering and design of these cars is a safety problem in general use. The holes in the deck for changing brake shoes, forget it you would need gorilla arms to make it work. In other words, my arms are not long enough. When I was working the ramps, I dreaded seeing these cars come in, the brake shoes were almost always burnt in, and needed changing. This was due to the extreme difficulty of changing, said brake shoes. Only way we ever found to change them was usually 2 guys. One handing brake shoes in. The other guy, under the car, laying on the axles, reaching around the wheels from inside. Usually going to be 6-8 break shoes to change, because no one wants to change them. It is anything but easy. Now, we see bad shoes on one, we bad order it, safer for the One Spot to handle it, with floor jacks and jib cranes.
One evening I had one of these cars, 6 burnt brake shoes to change. I called for help on the radio. Forman answered, said everyone was busy. I told him, then he needed to bad order it, or come himself. He was pissed and came over to the ramps, to prove me wrong. funny thing, he had never seen a car like this before (They were just a couple years old, at that point.) He tried the hole on top and said this is impossible. I told him how we were going to do it, what I needed from him. Double checked blue flags and crawled under the car. I changed first 2 shoes, with a minimum of bad words, and moved to the inner axle. Forman got bored lit of a cigarette and was not really paying attention. Ramp supervisor had a last-minute hot load change for the rail. ramp crew had stood their flags back up, and moved down the rail about 3 cars to a 89' flatcar. They had to swap trailers, for the hot load. Packer went by, yard goat with hot trailer went by, Forman just keep enjoying his cigarette, never saw any of it. I am laying on top of the axle. BANG, and the whole rail moves about 2 feet away from the trailer hitch the packer is slamming trying to get it to release. BANG

Stephen et al, an excellent and informative video of quite a unique car. I really appreciate the additional detail as it allows me - both as a hobbyist and an engineer - to appreciate what you're creating in the model and I've increased my reservation numbers with OH as a result.

Can you show and explain how these trucks pivot for curves? The motion at the leaf spring at the top of the truck casting? Have 1 of each car on order, may now get more of each.

I really enjoyed this video. It nice to learn the reasoning behind a design.

What does the 110 in the circle signify?

I don't think you really mean a narrow wheelbase but a short wheelbase, it looks way less than 5' 8" or 5'10".
