    I am going to try this technique of underpainting, using white and blue on the sky and behind the trees. I think it will help remove some of the pressure of my trying to be perfect.

      That is the reason I do an underdrawing... keeps everything relaxed and spontaneous 😊🙏

    I would imagine you are wiping your fingers each time you smooth/ smudge? I am generally an oil painter but I've had a set of 72 Derwents ( maybe not the best but I like them) which I've used once in the past 4 years.Thanks to your videos my pastel pencils have just been rescued from out of storage! Thank you for the inspiration 🙂

      I use different fingers one for light medium and darks. Lol. Thrilled you feel inspired to get the pastels out again.. it is a great medium for sure. Have fun! Thanks for watching 😊🙏

    Very beautiful! As someone who paints in watercolor , the time element is different in doing a very time consuming pastel painting. I appreciate both indeed and even mix them at times. I was asked years ago why would I want to take so long to make certain paintings and I find that I just enjoy both methods. There are watercolors that can take a lifetime also. This particular painting wouldn’t be long in watercolor but I think it looks amazing in pastels. If I want a bit of softness with watercolor I just use clear Art Spectrum pastel primer with a cheap sponge brush right over the watercolor and it doesn’t move it. Then the pastels will grip beautifully and I use a touch of Final fixative from Spectrafix and it never darkens. For that I do have to cover the wc area. So much fun! Enjoyed your work again!😊

      Thank you Jennie... I love watercolour paintings too. I don't put a timer on myself... my moto is "It takes as long as it takes" no tension then, helps to keep me in the moment too. All the very best with your art journey... thanks for taking the time to comment... much appreciated. 🙏

    Dave ,
    I’m really loving this, absolutely beautiful.
    I was on your patreon channel for a bit and had to cancel due to caring for my mom whom I lost in January of this year . I would love to come back ! Now I can paint again and think it’s exactly where I need to be. Look for me on patreon .

    Can you please tell me how you can lean on your work with getting it and yourself all covered in pastel ???

    • @DavePortersArt
      @DavePortersArt  2 года назад

      Hi Kerrie, I only lean on the under drawing, after that I use a bob stick or Glassine paper to rest my hand on. Pastel cling to the Pastelmat surface I use so less dust. 😊🙏

    Does anyone know when pastelmat was first manufactured. I know it is made in France.

    This is beautiful. I am so excited to begin this painting. I am a Patreon member and wonder when it will be available there. Also, how do you determine which color of the Claire Fontaine paper to use? Is white a good background color for portraits of children?

      Hi JK, Thank you and thanks for being a Patreon... much appreciated.🙏 This will be the next step by step video, it will be posted, all being well up to this point in the painting, around the 16th of this month. It is a wonderful landscape to paint , you will be able to download the reference image too. I'm working on the editing it at the moment. I always prefer dark grey pastel matt as it makes the values easier to see and painting on this colour shade helps to make the painting pop. 😊🙏
