    Bought my first records there over fifteen years ago. It’s been baffling to see location after location close over the years (long before COVID hit) It’s especially weird as other record stores have recently opened in the area and seem to be doing quite well. It’s just so bizarre to see a record store that used to be such a power house go under in the middle of this massive vinyl resurgence.

    Im sorry but if they are not financially viable before raising money with gofundme, they wont be financially viable after. If there is a plan to reduce running costs and increase income this injection of capital will only delay its closure. Hope they do have a plan and the support they are getting actually allows them to put that into motion and save themselves. On another note, their site seems to be down at the moment so cant order anything to help, will check tomorrow.

    Oh my goodness! Thank you Jarrett, for posting this video. I'm in Canada, but this tugged at my heart strings...
    I remember my first visit to a record shop with my dad when I was three years old... he brought me there on his motorcycle! As adults we all laughed looking back because you're probably NOT supposed to put a three year old on the back of a motorcycle and say "hold on!" even though I had a helmet lol.
    That record store closed many many years ago, so I never had the privilege of returning there as an adult. As an analog advocate myself, I would be totally lost right now as an adult if my local secondhand bookstore closed, and many of the things mentioned by the patrons in this video were so relatable.
    I will keep Independent Records in my prayers, and that they can pull through in the upcoming weeks, so they can be around for their community, and for future generations!

      Have shared this back to the USA (over in Minnesota) so that some people I know over there, who themselves are HEAVILY "into" analogue (or Analog as you American's spell it) - as they also run a small business dealing with - Premium Analog Audio Equipment Design & Manufacturing, so that maybe they &/or the people they know, play gigs with &others at those venues, &/or those who finance them - can also get the word out there, to save such an iconic vinyl shop in Colorado.
      Back here in New Zealand, we have many small vinyl record shops and a few vinyl "only" labels, (some of whom - also produce vinyl records for sale), so we KIWI's also know how important it is, to SAVE historically known large record shops, from becoming extinct.
      I hope that store, gets OVER FUNDED, to have a safety buffer (safety net) to ensure they never have to get to the same depths of despair, as they are currently facing - from total closure.

    I’m gonna be controversial here. I live in Colorado and I’ve been to the shop a couple times they have absolutely horrible service and their workers consistently treat people that come in like trash. That’s why they’re going out of business because everybody in the record community here that owns a business doesn’t like independent records because of how they treat people in this community if you really want a good record store go to What’s Left Records. Two brothers on the shop and it’s really small and they’re the kindest most genuine helping people in the community here sucks about independent records but in my opinion those guys haven’t shown that they care about the every day consumer

    Question?? I’m fairly new to vinyl collecting and just ordered The River by Bruce Springsteen, it comes with two specially made inner sleeves with pictures on them, made with thicker paper (if you look it up on google you should see what I’m talking about), anyway it also comes with the standard thin paper sleeves as well. How should I store this? Should I put the record in the thin sleeves and then that inside the thick sleeves or just throw away the thin paper sleeves and just put the record in the thick custom sleeves?

  • @djm5k

    Aren’t they an affiliate of CIMS? If not, they should be so they could participate in RSD activities throughout the year which will bring customers to them. Many record stores who participate in Record Store Days have throngs of people waiting outside their doors from early morning until they open. Too bad there wasn’t some sort of consignment agreement where these unfortunate stores could get another entity to fund the RSD record stock to these stores.

    • @spatulacityrecords6263
      @spatulacityrecords6263 Год назад

      RSD actually hurts records stores more than it helps them. Most are held hostage by it. In order to get the limited titles you have to get the lesser titles that you’re stuck with when they don’t sell and there’s no guarantee you’ll get to good sellers. You’re required to buy x amount of value and you can request what you want but it’s not guaranteed.

      The charges to import goods from the USA are like 60 bucks, so ordering online would mean no groceries for me for me for a week or two.
      I'd have to look into if the GoFundMe me page is safe to use internationally, in the sense that my country doesn't add charges when giving to the USA...
      It'd be cool if we could all just give one dollar- then no one would go broke or hungry, and the shop could survive by leaps and bounds!

    • @TheSoundrookie
      @TheSoundrookie Год назад +3

      Hey there.
      This is caused by the music/record industry demanding sick and unrealistic prices for vinyl, while dumping loads of bad pressings onto the market. It's a global problem, and you see store after store going out of business everywhere for this very reason. Even the biggest vinyl fans are fed up with it, and more and more stop buying vinyl. But you don't have to feel entirely helpless. Located in England you are probably familiar with the Now Spinning Magazine RUclips channel with Phil Aston. Tell him what you just told here. The more the word spreads in the community and is heard by people with contacts in the music industry, the bigger the chance is for the industry to realize that their greed has hit the ceiling, and they have to get of the high horse before they kill themselves along with the format. Only fair prices will keep the stores and the format alive.
      Stay cool.

      @@TheSoundrookie :... thank you, that's very constructive, I am aware as it goes. 👍 it's a strange time in vinyl isn't it? Sales are increasing, yet record stores are folding. Greed can be the only reason, the music biz has always been filled with greedy, selfish people, John Reid, Tom Parker, Saul Zantz to name just 3. I'm 54, been loving and collecting vinyl since 1973, this won't stop me and I'll find a way to do my bit to help this store stay on its feet...!

Heck, the last visit I had over there before I moved 2 states away one guy gave me a $100 Beatles magazine from the 60s for free. 195 N Academy Blvd, until recently, was..... a used car lot, so they must have been located elsewhere previously. It's a standalone building, so probably very expensive to lease. Also.... it's hard to compete with online prices for new vinyl. We have a used record store in our "smallish" city, and they try to sell clearly used records for outrageous prices. I don't think they'll last long. A sign of the times, folks.

      I don't know if it's the sign of the times or just bad planning by the owner/management. From looking at their older pictures, apparently they were in smaller convenience store sized locations. Before they moved into this location, the building had a pawn shop on the left and the used car lot you mention on the right. I'm guessing they thought this vinyl craze was the next beanie babies and put all their money into leasing and renovating the whole building for this store... and then were surprised when the people didn't flood in to buy what they could find cheaper on Amazon.
