Despite of the recency of the newer format of MatPat's videos (like the Persona video and the Ness is Sans theory being the two very infamous ones) can't disagree that he made a massive community out of his work.
Most RUclipsrs always tricked their audience into thinking they'll quit their careers as a part of an April Fools joke, but seeing MatPat announces his retirement for real this time makes this the saddest moment the Internet has come across. Godspeed MatPat. It's not just a theory, but a game theory in our hearts.
Okay, okay, lads, I know I sound like a troll, however, I have yet to watch a single MatPat/Game Theory video. What are the videos usually about, and why do people fawn over them?
@@belgianfried The premise of Game Theory is about trying to speculate the lore behind video games, films and TV shows, and even food and fashions. Some theories are dumb and lackluster (like Mario being evil just because he stomped Luigi's foot over a tennis match or Sans being Ness), while other theories seems plausible (like the Petscop game).
To be honest, I think this could be proof that RUclips is unfortunately becoming too big for independent creators. RUclipsrs are quiting or hiring people to help them - sometimes entire teams: editors, script writers, managers etc. - basically creating small companies. As Tom Scott mentioned, you can't just scale down - and in my opinion this means RUclips is going to become more and more corporate, with a handful of independent creators who will come and go as the algorithm changes, doing smaller things out of passion and not for money. Some might say it's a good thing. Personally I'm bit concerned about such a future of RUclips. I guess time will tell.
One day, you and all of your friends will be hanging out all together. And it will be the last time ever, and none of you will realize. From that point on, lives will change and you will never get a chance to all be together again. It happens to everyone growing up. It's sad, but nothing is forever
People should think about this in a good light. if you are 21 right now you’ve grown up with these people basically your entire life and now they’re moving on to do better things. It should be the push we all need to get up out of these comfortable lives we’ve been living and the start towards making positive changes for the future. It will be tough, but hell it will be worth it.
@@Springboi101 Well, it's obvious why these communities are hate in the first place. UTTP has been around since the GoAnimate era. They should belong in that era, not this comment section.

I guess it’s an end of a great era. Especially for people like myself born in the early 2000s. I’ve been watching most of these RUclipsrs ever since elementary and it’s kinda sad seeing some of them move on just after finishing a semester of college. i think the breaking point for most of the quitting youtubers is the new anti adblock shit they brought in (plus the millions of forced midroll ads AND you usually cant skip the first advertisement, just press "next")
what i love about all this guys, is that they didn't quit because they, where harassed, miss judged, or did anything bad, they felt and understand that, their life and enjoyment means more then just making videos and they, must tray to be happy before making others happy, and changed their lives for doing things they wanted to do, with their loved once, or start working on what they will enjoy, as i say "don't be sad while looking at a hero for the last time, be happy and smile, you don't want to make their hard work get wasted"

It's not easy making as much content as they do and totally can cause burn outs. I post a new rock every day and I'm already 60+ videos into this. It takes a lot of work. I'm glad RUclipsrs are talking about the relentless push for content by RUclips but it is a shame to see a lot of these RUclipsrs leave their channels.
I think it's because a lot of people think that being a RUclipsr is a dream job and why would anyone quit it. But over the years I've gathered that being a RUclipsr, especially a big one who puts out consistent high quality content, is much more of a pain in the ass than it sounds. When you're your own boss you constantly constantly constantly have to be working. Always thinking of new video ideas, always being worried that the next video won't do that well and you'll fall off the algorithm, it honestly sounds like a nightmare.
It only gets worse with how YT handles monetization and strike policies. People abuse the DMCA claim and the staff is insanely slow to respond, if at all. It is a major source of stress because if you're not extremely cautious, you can get your channel and all your work nuked
Just goes to show that the time has finally come for individuals to have bit of me time. I say good luck to the futures of these creators and hello to new ideas and people to the platform. I wish them all well.
It's indeed disheartening to see major RUclipsrs scaling down their work. Burn out is real and can hit hard in any profession where creativity is the lifeline. These transitions highlight the pressure on creators to churn out content incessantly, which is simply unsustainable in the long run.
While I haven't exactly been watching MatPat and the Game/Movie Theory videos I did follow him from the early videos when he launched the theory of whether Pyro from TF2 was a guy or a girl and the Majora's Mask theory theory too, and having watched how he went from those small, humble beginnings to the production value he has on his videos is nothing short of astounding. But I can see the burnout being a thing. Trying to keep that same production value on a consistent basis, always having to pump out new content with that same level of quality put behind it, even with a team backing you up, must be exhausting. It's like trying to run a TV channel with a small crew but said TV channel only launches new programming every few days. He defintely left a big mark on RUclips and it's sad to see the end of an era. But as per usual the old goes so it opens up the space for the new. Here's hoping that we get to see more of him in the future, even if in smaller doses. He deserves the praise and success.

The only ones I can think of rn are Mossbag and HalfBreadChaos (who make Hollow Knight and Undertale/Deltarune content respectively) although Mossbag has been seemingly steering away from theory content.
I also think its with how youtube works as a platform. It's gotten to the point where most videos are demonetized for a vague TOS, and a horrible copyright system. After having to abide by those rules and I assume get frustrated I'd quit too.
@@NetBattler that too. For a platform like youtube, and how much they milk everything for, I'm surprised they still haven't fixed that. You're a billion dollar company. Do something.
Matpat will be insanely sad, I think this is the first time I haven’t fully grasped the concept of something. Truly an unepic gaming moment but Mat has more important things to do.
Not long ago I saw a meme about it that said during WW2, some physicists inferred the existence of the Manhattan project from the fact that many of their colleagues had stopped publishing
This is possibly the best case for these creators to take honestly, burnout is hard to bounce back from. And more than anything else, they're going on their own terms, no cancellations or drama, just going out on their own decision and terms. Can't ask for a better exit than one you planned out yourself.
When people are talented and have made a name for themselves it makes it a lot easier to branch into different things that doesn't apply to all youtubers but certainly does the ones listed here.
I am glad they are leaving! And I will not miss them! They should move on in life, Matpat is a father and husband, RUclips is draining him, I am sure of that, it's better for all of them
I saw a meme talking about how people found out about the Manhattan project by the stark decrease in major scientific minds there after compared to the loss of RUclipsrs
It makes me sad to see MatPat is leaving. Wish it was a Theory, but he really earns for doing this so much and also never forget how shock and happy I was to see him make an appearance in the FNAF Movie. We are all gonna miss him.
It's best to also remember that no one is immortal and that retirement does not mean the end just yet. It is also good to keep the memories we made along the way close to our hearts.
He won’t retire. Hes said it many times. Mark doesn’t want to quit youtube and has made responses to tweets mentioning his retirement as a possibility with “lol no” mark would be more likely to take another hospital trip then retire anytime soon
I think it’s necessary, because it gives them time to freshen up themselves and have a clear mind for what they want next. It’s also necessary because new RUclipsrs are gonna come in to help fill in the roles and get their chance to shine.
I feel like the biggest issue is the incessant need to be constantly uploading. RUclips really needs to make it so if you take a break and come back, that come back video gets immediately recommended more to make up for the fact that some people have gone elsewhere. However, a good safeguard for viewers leaving you is to make sure you have content that they can only get from you, whether that be a particular style of animation like meat canyon or entertaining and nicely edited theory videos like MatPat. Filling a niche goes a long way.
To be fair…most of the OGs have been doing this for 10-12 years. I think of it like school (cause I’m a college freshman) after all 12 grades are said and over…you’re done, and ready to move on with the next chapter of your life.
It's been public knowledge for a while that doing YT for a living is pretty awful. I've been on this site since the late 2000s and I've seen thousands of big YTers burn out. To quote Johnny Cash: "I've seen 'em come and go and I've seen 'em die - and long ago I stopped asking why." No, but seriously, make content because you enjoy it, not for the money.
it just was pretty funny that all of them lined up in burn out more or less, like burn out happens but normally not all at the same time, which is why i think it became a meme.
It has to be because over the last few years aftercovid, they made more videos than ever and got bigger than they thought they would. Now that things are back to normal and there are more thing to do than make RUclips videos, they’re leaving after they got bigger than they ever believed they could, ending on the high note and moving on in life.
The bit about creators downsizing their operations reminds me of the fact that many tech businesses in 2024 is downsizing as well. They most likely upscaled their projects for the expected growth they would have after 2020, which let them go wild. But now that life is returning to normal, the current state of things is unsustainable and they needed to downsize way back to an amount they can maintain.
1:13 honestly, this general mindset still exists to this very day. there are still many people who tend to see youtube & social media as anything but the next big thing in the entertainment industry to becoming famous from not starting off as a tv show/movie star. regardless of any drastic changes the online landscape has been through & will certainly keep on receiving, hitting big online will always come off as a joke or a fad to the most common-minded ne'er-do-well. it's like how many people outside of the animation space still see animation as something that's "made & enjoyed only for kids." when in all honesty, it can be enjoyed & appreciated by everyone young & old.
2024 is really just the end of an era, and that's a delightfully bittersweet thing. Its time to move on and pass the torch, let new people shine and rock the internet
Well I’m going to be sad now that Moo has left and won’t be appearing that much in the vanoss crews videos, but I mean brother has to do what’s best for his family so I respect that decision.
2024 is gonna be the year where everything would get scaled down and everyone who has worked hard on the platform finally take a break and give new people a good start with youtube. setting the scale down back to zero without actually completely zeroing out
old ones go, new ones fly, but the one thing is the history of their achievements will always be with us.

Matpat will be insanely sad, I think this is the first time I haven’t fully grasped the concept of something. Truly an unepic gaming moment but Mat has more important things to do.
The fact that we grow up with these RUclipsrs are just simple, but much memories we remember them. 2024 is just the beginning and it sucks for now
Man 2024 is the only year where legends left us
@Pomni_SMG4 💔💔💔💀💀💀
Bots, ignore it
Its not only retirement, its also deaths of multiple of them
This would have been a hilarious way for LIMC to announce his retirement
Not long ago I saw a meme about it that said during WW2, some physicists inferred the existence of the Manhattan project from the fact that many of their colleagues had stopped publishing
Talk about the 2nd attempt at #savetf2 and how valve sent the game back to 2007.
@UTTPOFFICERCUBANTROONJAK no.
Lynja also died, R.I.P to her
This is possibly the best case for these creators to take honestly, burnout is hard to bounce back from.
Sad to see that the legends of RUclips and the foundation of our childhood are retiring. o7
Goodbye MatPat, goodbye Geek. So many retirements.
I am glad they are leaving! And I will not miss them! They should move on in life, Matpat is a father and husband, RUclips is draining him, I am sure of that, it's better for all of them
I just uploaded the trailer for my multiplayer pigeon movement shooter and it has a big lore but I came too late for theories ;-;
Certified Quitting RUclips-Hood Classic
I saw a meme talking about how people found out about the Manhattan project by the stark decrease in major scientific minds there after compared to the loss of RUclipsrs
Plot twist: They didn't quit
It makes me sad to see MatPat is leaving. Wish it was a Theory, but he really earns for doing this so much and also never forget how shock and happy I was to see him make an appearance in the FNAF Movie. We are all gonna miss him.
2024 did NOT start good for us 😥😥
just wait til the end. hopefully nothing worse happen, this is already bad :(
We already fucked up 2024
Im calling it, 2025 would one of the year of all time
It's best to also remember that no one is immortal and that retirement does not mean the end just yet. It is also good to keep the memories we made along the way close to our hearts.
I’m just praying that Markiplier still enjoys his job and doesn’t join the others in quitting.
Sad thing is nothing last forever. Even he will retire eventually
He won’t retire. Hes said it many times. Mark doesn’t want to quit youtube and has made responses to tweets mentioning his retirement as a possibility with “lol no” mark would be more likely to take another hospital trip then retire anytime soon
@@powerfullpummel6417If anyone was in his position, I'd say the same thing too.
I think it’s necessary, because it gives them time to freshen up themselves and have a clear mind for what they want next. It’s also necessary because new RUclipsrs are gonna come in to help fill in the roles and get their chance to shine.
They quitting after epstein list reveal.
Old days- Gold days. Now everything we can do that we will keeping our memories in our mind and happy cause they have appeared in our 😭

That Regular Show image with Skips hit hard
To quote Johnny Cash: "I've seen 'em come and go and I've seen 'em die - and long ago I stopped asking why."
No, but seriously, make content because you enjoy it, not for the money.
it just was pretty funny that all of them lined up in burn out more or less, like burn out happens but normally not all at the same time, which is why i think it became a meme.
1:13 honestly, this general mindset still exists to this very day.
there are still many people who tend to see youtube & social media as anything but the next big thing in the entertainment industry to becoming famous from not starting off as a tv show/movie star.
regardless of any drastic changes the online landscape has been through & will certainly keep on receiving, hitting big online will always come off as a joke or a fad to the most common-minded ne'er-do-well.
it's like how many people outside of the animation space still see animation as something that's "made & enjoyed only for kids."
when in all honesty, it can be enjoyed & appreciated by everyone young & old.
Damn, kind hits hard not seeing one of my favorites mentioned in any of the people leaving
Nothing is permanent. Be glad you were alive to witness it.
Okay... but is it not okay to be sad that it's ending?
as a person that quit RUclips I think we should all move on
I hope you never leave us Mr lessons in meme culture.
2024 is really just the end of an era, and that's a delightfully bittersweet thing.
Its time to move on and pass the torch, let new people shine and rock the internet
After stampy quit in late 2023 it feels as if all the old youtubers who were around in the early 2010s are quiting
Many RUclipsrs have expressed that every January is a horrendous revenue month so quite a few take a break during this time.
make a video about the bottom 2 and about how krabs likes money, sponge likes fun and squid likes guns
Well I’m going to be sad now that Moo has left and won’t be appearing that much in the vanoss crews videos, but I mean brother has to do what’s best for his family so I respect that decision.
gonna miss them all, for some reason the one that hit the hardest was stampy and his series ending
Ninja getting a low taper fade please
Imagine….
first meat canyon
then tom scott
now game theorist
I wonder who's next
Damn, this channel grew up A LOT since the last tme i saw a video. Congrats!
Cooking with Lynja died sadly… another legend left
2024 is gonna be the year where everything would get scaled down and everyone who has worked hard on the platform finally take a break and give new people a good start with youtube. setting the scale down back to zero without actually completely zeroing out
Vanoss Crew wouldn't be the same without Moo Snuckel 😢😢😢😢
Please make a video about "imagine if ninja got a lowtaper fade"
Meat canyon said he is just taking a break from the main Chanel and will be back to posting on it later
next time can you give a lesson on "hellow, my name is ralsei" meme? Every day I see it I wonder where it came from.
It's worth noting Tom Scott announced this as a plan a bit back
