  • "The Girl from Ipanema" was my first and most favorite Bossa-Nova.....It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. The 1964 single featuring Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz, became an international hit. Always a hit on the Hammond Organ by Walter Wanderley, and Lenny Dee. It is on my 1966 organ record "Make it with Mike". Now I play it for you, on my Hammond Organ. All because "Life is Good" with big, luscious chords and drawbar settings that I love so much. Relax, and stay cool, baby. 😎🎹

The way Mike plays this I can feel the lyrics and sing them in my mind as I'm listening. also one of my favorite songs. Henry Mancini did a very nice version of this song.

Mike inspired me to play the Hammond. In memory of the man who loved his Hammond and his loving family. RIP MIKE.

So great! This makes me think of my late dad who played like this on his B-3 until his death in 2021 at the age of 90. Thank you for posting this! You play so well!

Of course, the three or four people on the planet who had never heard this song were introduced to it in the elevator sequence in the Blues Brothers movie. Of course, to make it be "elevator music" it was a much more insipid and milquetoast and lifeless arrangement and style than what Mr. Reed is playing here. What is in this video is really good.
