My Going Solo course starts on Feb 14 - 27 live with other teachers and great support from me while you get everything set up! onlineteacherdude.com/launch
Love your videos Tim. Maybe someday I'll jump off the boat and go Solo, but I do love the simplicity of working for someone else. I did switch to companies that let me make a lot of curriculum and lesson planning decisions which came with higher pay, but not nearly what you're making. A sacrifice for not having to seek out students on my own.
@@onlineteacherdude1284 I apologize Tim.. the day I posted this I was unable to edit the comment 😬.. so, since I hop around your videos (which I LOVE and will go back and comment all on ;-)) I like to read the info and click on things.. so somewhere I read 'online community' (with a course prob.) but I then received the answer on the next live I was on so, yes, you still have a private online community, correct? Can't wait for today's 'playing games' Live❣️ Thank-you for all you do.. (and I can't wait to tell you how I found you)! 🙋🏻♀️🇮🇹
I also having been teaching with Cambly and only teach adults. Through Cambly, I found an adult who was moving to the US and his employer is now paying me to teach him English 3 times a week. I want to find more students like him.
@@onlineteacherdude1284 Possibly. I don't teach that much on Cambly and I can't get a student's contact information on Cambly. I was able to keep up with my current student on his Facebook page.
Tim, you, and your Launch Program, have helped me achieve a liberated life, doing what I love. DEEPLY GRATEFUL. Thank you for these excellent tips to help us own, and earn, what we deserve.
I'm a new subscriber. I watched your videos before, and was setting up to join VIPKID until the change happened. I just found this video, and joined your Facebook page. Thank you so much for your videos!! They are extremely beneficial, and helping me to take the first steps toward teaching.
Thanks for this video! I am considering doing this because the mother of one of my regulars sent me an email asking me if I could continue to teach her child because his English is not improving. But then again I also launched my own business last year and it takes time so I don't know what to do.
Hi Marcel - you can certainly do it! My course is starting in a week or so and it will help you put all the pieces together. It won't take you as long as you might think. let me know if you have any questions.
I have gone solo as well. It has been smooth sailing thus far. I have 12 students to date and I believe that number will continue to grow. Question about the teaching materials that you are using. Currently, I acquire my teaching materials from various websites that offer them for free but with a growing clientele it has just become too much work for me. I am looking for an all inclusive prepackaged lesson plans along with the corresponding curriculum for the various ESL levels (i.e., plug and play). I have done some searching but I haven't found what I am looking for. Are there any recommendations for an all-inclusive ESL teaching package that can work well with online Chinese students (similar to VIPKIDs offerings)? Thanks for your assistance!
Hi Rosie, yes there are many and I have a video about 6 of them on my channel. Crystal Clear, Flip The Classroom, ABridge Academy - they would all work.
@@onlineteacherdude1284 any advice for me? Love to have that level of success. Just signed up to get my tefl certification. Still waiting on cambly to accept me. Will hear back tomorrow and applied to preply. Have to wait 9 business days.
Online Teacher Dude, greetings from an American 🇺🇸 teacher of EFL and Spanish in Taipei, Taiwan 🇹🇼 and a fellow VIPKID teacher. I’m teaching some former VIPKID students and I’m charging about halfway between my VIPKID salary and what they were paying before Winnie the Pooh broke my iron rice 🍚 bowl. Thank you 🙏 for the homework tip! I’m going to implement that suggestion, along with the one to solicit referrals. A question: any ideas on how to reach former regulars that I’ve lost touch with?
Awesome Daniel! I'd offer some trial classes to them and get them re-engaged by bringing them into a wechat group too. Do you have them on WeChat? If not, then I don't know how you'd find them specifically.
Hey Tim, Thanks so much for all the information you provide on this channel. It is very useful! Can I ask which curriculum you use that provides homework? Currently, I am making homework for students but it takes up a lot more time. It would be great to use a curriculum that has it included!
Hi Tom, I use Wonders and they have student books which you can assign homework pages. I send the book to the students so they have it and parents can print it.I know that Crystal clear is also developing homework but it will take time to get it for all levels.
So I still don't understand what is going on with VIPKid. So they cannot offer lessons in China, but it is still open for everyone else? I cannot find a good explanation. Their website is still up and they are hiring still. I'm lost. I spent all night watching hiring videos. I, like you, figured I could teach online and do my own lessons, but I am not sure about finding students.
VIPKid has launched their global platform. Its not that they cant afford lessons in China ... the gov't shut. down tutoring but they still have students finishing their packages and lots of non-mainland Chinese students taking classes. Its not hard to start your own thing. I have lots of resources for you.
@@onlineteacherdude1284 Okay, yes I finally heard. I will check out your resources as well. I may teach reading online instead of teaching ELLs. Maybe I will do both and do brick and mortar part-time as well. I love having options!
I was with VIPKID for only a short time and only was able to teach three kids and never had returning kids or even really got started due to the change htat happened. Do you have any advice for me? I want to continue teaching online.
I would suggest trying to go independent. That's what I'm helping teachers do right now. Of course there are lots of companies out there but they will never pay you what you're worth.
I explored lots of options and settled on what I felt comfortable with. I had to decide what I was comfortable doing in terms of prep and I needed pre-made because I am too busy to create lessons so I went with a couple different pre-made ESL curricula. Also, your students needs will dictate the curriculum as well...

IS VIP kids still teaching in China?
Not since 2021, but they have Chinese students still and are based in Singapore I think. So yes and no to your question but they are still around.
