    I would be such a happy guy if anatomical toe boxes became commonplace in the shoe industry. Most of the current offerings are zero-drop which doesn't interest me.
    Would love to hear your thoughts on the Topo Ultraventure 3 and MTN Racer 3, two of the few shoes out there with 5mm drop and anatomical toe boxes.

    • @trailsandbeers
      @trailsandbeers 5 месяцев назад +5

      Ultraventure 3 is very comfortable but not much tread depth, grip is good for easy dry trails but not great on steep and technical terrain.
      MTN Racer 3 is the best ultra shoe from Topo imo, excellent grip except for wet mud, I use this for most of my training and races up to about 80km, longer than that and the sole is not cushioned enough.
      For longer distance I use Hoka Speedgoat 5 wide fit. Not as good fit in toe box but it works with tape on little toe and is more cushioned.

      @@trailsandbeers Thanks! I'm in HOKA Speegoat 5 2E width right now and it's definitely not as wide as I would like. Hoping to try the MTN 3 locally, unfortunately nobody here carries the Ultraventure 3 Wide so the MTN 3 is my only option without ordering blind from the website

      i agree that foot shaped should be the way to go for all brands. this is far more important than mid sole drop. zero drop dont suit 90% of the population.

      @@carsons5750I don’t think Hoka actually make a wide fit, all they do is add more material to provide more volume. That was true of Clifton 9’s and Speedgoat 4’s be good if that’s changed…

    Looks promising. I'm so tired of otherwise great shoes being "pointed" at the end and squishing my toes. Nobody has feet shaped like that, so why make shoes like that?

    • @Seanonyoutube
      @Seanonyoutube 5 месяцев назад +4

      So true! I wish nike and all the other big brands followed suit and made slightly wider toe boxes.

    • @sdemosi
      @sdemosi 5 месяцев назад +6

      For years there was a belief that shoes needed to force toes into a particular position for precise placement when running. Wider shoes require stronger toe muscles to support your feet as you roll to the forefoot. The great thing is that wearing foot shaped shoes develops stronger toe muscles so long as you give yourself some adaptation time.
      I can see the argument for narrow climbing slippers but for everything else a foot shaped shoe is healthier and enables the wearer to walk for longer without blisters and pain.

    Bought for the 1st time...inov8 pair of running shoe in my life.Been wearing Altra lone peak 5, Salomon, Hoka SG4 and Hoka SG5...Worn this trailfly to the test on the 12 May 2024, Margaret River Marathon, Western Australia, 42km trail. Firstly it fits my feet like a glove, enough cushioning.....personally....better than my Hokas and LP5...just suits to my feets' shape....sorry. As for the terrain that I ran on, do visit the youtube videos on Margaret River Ultramarathon.....very happy with Inov8 trail fly..my rating 9.5/10

    Ran my first 23 miles in the Trailfly Speed on Sunday 10th, loved them overall, light, nimble, and super secure. They transition from gravel trails to tarmac and on to soft trail really well. On very soft very muddy ground they are good considering it’s not what they are designed for, they do seem to struggle to clear the mud if they get really clogged up. Very happy with my investment and would happily put in 50k+ in them. Look forward to hearing your initial thoughts. Size 7.5 wide fit.

    Glad to see a full cover rubber sole, had some real issues with g270 sole failing at the flex points, love the shoe though having over 3000 miles in them now, only weak point for me is the woeful rubber compound and the lose of traction once the studs wear down, small price pay for an upper and cushion/ground feel that just works.
    My only concern with these is the stud pattern just doesn’t look versatile enough…

    Great comparison between this and the Roclite 320 - great to hear this is different. I bought a pair of those Roclites for more technical ultras and have now decided not to wear them. As you say they're quite rigid which resulted in quite a lot of ankle roll, plus when they get wet they're incredibly heavy and end up what I call 'slappy' in that your foot moves around in them too much and you end up slapping your feet inside the shoes. I bought a pair of precision fit mudtalon speeds and the fit is perfect, so looking forward to trying these out for longer stuff.

    They look fantastic and with that added toe box I'm excited for these. However, 4mm lugs I find are not enough for anything other than dry trails without mud or slightly wet land. These with a 5mm lug would be a speedgoat beater I think.

      They have been designed with dryer, firmer trails in mind Dave. Also the Soeedgoats are more cushioned when it comes to the midsole. I personally think Speedgoats are pretty bad in the mud when it comes to traction 👍

    Watching your inov8 vids with great interest. I love the brand, and the Trailfly G270v2 is by far the best trail shoe I’ve run in, but the 2024 releases are yet to grab me. Bland looks and reviews that seem good but not outstanding. Wondering if there’s been a conscious move into more mass appeal, rather than catering for those that are already keen trail or fell runners. Mudtalon Speed notwithstanding, as that seems almost too niche…!

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  5 месяцев назад +1

      Obviously as a business you need to sell your product so it has to appeal to a wider audience or your business won’t stay afloat! If you haven’t run in the new TRAILFLY how do you know you won’t like it compared to the G270 v2? inov-8 has really gone downhill for me, been using their hiking/trail running shoes since ~2012 and they just don't hold up like they used to. The foam soles they switched to cannot take the beating of trails anymore, my stupidly expensive trailfly's from 2022 are already dead after 2 summers of hiking, the heel is just a flattened chunk of useless foam now. I have a pair of old trailroc's and the sole is still in good shape, it's just the uppers that have been torn to shreds. The trailfly's were also not grippy enough for me, especially in mud my feet just slid right out from under me. Honestly though I just can't find a decent trail running shoe to save my life right now, I've tried and returned 5 different brands and I'm a little unsure what to do for hiking this summer, getting a little nervous tbh. I especially hate the high stack trend, I miss those sleek thin soles with a sturdy rock plate, really felt like your feet were glued to the ground.
