i love the leveling experience of gw2, but end game is the most convoluted thing I've ever experienced. I've leveled 4 classes to 80 and every single time i got so lost and confused i quit the game after hitting max level. End game in gw2 is just so extremely confusing.
@@TheLazyPeon I remember thinking the exact same thing....15 years ago while playing Lineage 2, it really makes me sad :( Gaming is dead. Can you imagine if Lineage 3 comes out? holy smokes..
New players will never know the heartache of falling to their death in Diessa Plateau or Caledon Forest. Now it is all just "Mr fwuffy bunny to the skiiiiiiiiiiiiiiies!" and they are all good smh.
I'm new to this game and I think it's the best game I've ever played. It's so well designed and so much player friendly that I got surprised by it more than a few times, I can't believe how well it's made, I was so used to games just letting the players to "deal with it" but GW2 is so good. The different races are very well made and the storylines that I've tried are really good. My wife also loves it.
@@JC-hy3db Everything can be done if you just play because the game rewards you the more you do, I think this design is why a game from 2012 is still being played by so many people. Even the legendary unique weapons don't seem to have higher stats than the lower ascended weapons from what I have understood so if you enjoy playing you won't be worried about spending money because maps and content is unlocked naturally by just playing. I only play PvE and I enjoy it, it does take time to finish missions and maps but every map has its own currency so you always find players to do events with and the community is really nice. I have asked in the chat a few times for help and players with 200 or 300+ mastery points come and help you out even if it takes time. This is a grinding game after all so it does take time but if you enjoy the game the long term goals are not a frustration but just the nice journey, you can buy stuff with gold and skins with gems too but the best way to do things is to go around the world finding missions. Hero points that you use are only found by going around and doing those challenges and Mastery points too and them you use when you get enough experience points which is gained by playing the game. The things you collect and farm are there stored and even if you don't need them maybe your second character will in case you found out that you want a different race and profession to play.

Heeey Cello, nice to see you here. Got back myself to the game a few weeks ago, was VERY confusing when i had been gone for like 2 years. Alot to re learn.
@@bboyg1 There's no significant delay in mounting (but you can't mount in combat), every type of mount functions differently but effectively for certain types of terrain, being attacked doesn't dismount you, but your mount has it's own health bar. You also get special skills for each mount to make them a bit more interactive, and you get perks through a mastery point system that make your mounts do extra stuff. Each mount also has a special attack that can make them uniquely useful for engaging in fights. They're basically always useful when they're allowed to be used at all.
@@bboyg1 The mounts each have a unique functionality rather than just increasing movement. Raptor: long jumps and fast. Springer: High jumps for getting up on tall things and a powerful CC. Been playing 8 years and still love it! It's basically ruined other MMOs for me. It may not be for everyone, but it's extremely low barrier to entry, any MMO fan should give it a try IMO.
me too. ANet spoiled me so much other MMOs have trouble to please me. Fair sPvP, fair Open PvP (WvW) and all the niceties when it comes to servers (virtually no down time), conversion of ingame gold into gems for the item shop and horizontal progression (meaning your high-end gear never gets useless).
I feel like out of the MMO's I've played, GW2 is the only one that really encourages group play. The others I've played are more like single-player games where you have people around.
which is funny because GW2 also has one of the best single player experiences ever. the personal story quest, the way progression is integrated with exploration, it's awesome.
Season 4 of Living World was some of the best story telling GW2 did imo, it was building up everything incredibly well, and especially the episode "All or Nothing", the music and the buildup to that episode were simply fantastic
The lesbian romance story in between goth chick and pink chick was extremely irritating. Not because I care that they were scissoring. But because it was shoved down my throat all the time for no fecking reason. Other parts of the story were pretty cringe as well.
@@HugoMatheus You obviously didn't read my comment. The romance was annoying and pointless. I got tired of it after the first couple times it was shown. It was sappy and weird in the middle of the story when we detour to them calling eachother sweety and hugging and kissing and crap. Why.
nail on the head with a great game to return to when i am feeling homeless with MMORPGs. i literally just swapped to GW2 three days ago after ragequitting the ever toxic BDO for the 3rd time.
Ive played Gw2 several times since 2012, i cant stick more than 3 weeks with it no matter what. Honestly, I dont think Ive played anything more than a few weeks ever since Aion in ~2009-2010 - Except Path of Exile, which is basically a single player game so not really under mmo category
@Chem Because BDO has some of the best action RPG combat in any MMO right now. I love BDO, play all the time, almost everything about the game is absolute ass - especially the enhancing, but the action combat it has is unmatched. Also, if you join a pvp guild, or ever get to the end-endgame, you'll be interacting with other players 99% of the time.
I spent so many hours on this game back when I was still at school and me and my friends would log onto it and play all night. It was the first mmo I fully got into. We've all since gone to and finished uni but I might re-download this game for the first time in years and re-explore.
Depending on when you last played, there is probably a ton of new content to explore. Ive been playing since day 1 in 2012 and still have plenty to do everyday!
@@diversitycandle5708 I stopped playing just before Path of Fire expansion launched, I spent 3 whole month this year just to finish up on that expansion's contents
A few things to point out which are either wrong or misleading from the video: 1. Your World does not influence your sPvP or PvE population as long as you dont change between EU and NA server (Wiki: World) 2. Jumping Puzzles do not allow usage of glider nor mounts in their areas as long they were not explicitly made for them - in general climbing up to a Vista does not count as Jumping Puzzle 3. The limited up-time for "CashShop"-Items is nearly like this in every game since it is an easy way to encourge buying that stuff and therefore gives them more money (considering how low the costs of GW2 are I am fine with that) 4. The Warclaw ability actually does not finish people of anymore, it just deals increased damage to people in downstate 5. While they slowed down with Raid and Fractal Development they did the exact opposite for Living Story content, which gets released faster than ever before - therefore generalizing with "content development has been slowing down for a while.." is not true; also the staff layoff were nearly exclusivly for side projects of A-Net (not GW2) which got canceled
@ProseColored Glasses Well, there is somewhat but certainly not like people are used from games like WoW. On max lvl you basically have three tiers of gear: 1. Exotic: is obtainable within a few days at max 2. Ascended: takes a few weeks to months depending on playtime and so on; ascended is around 5-10% stronger 3. Legendary: Not better than ascended but many unique skins with a lot of animations and so on + ability to change stats anytime out of combat I general the progession in GW2 happens trough Masteries (read it up), which unlock new mount typen, vendors, new interaction methods with the world around and so on, gathering achievements and skins as well as other cosmetical effects - obv. a lot of the more extreme effects or higher quality skins are pretty hard to get and require a lot of time investment and/or skill in different game modes. If you think a game needs an infite gear loop for catching up with enemies who just got more numbers to be enjoyable and that no other way of progression can compensate for that, then stay away.
You are factually incorrect on point 5. First of all, content is not being released faster than before, it's about on par with LWS3. Second, A LOT of GW2 veterans were laid off. Saying that it wasn't GW2 people is incredibly wrong. here is a partial list: www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/autnqg/list_of_laid_off_devs_lets_keep_this_updated/ All of those people worked on GW2.
@@HalfLifeHalfDead Actually I am not incorrect with that. 1. content releases: Currently the average time between releases of The Icebrood Saga is 2 months while the average time between releases of Living Story 3 was ~2.4 months. That does not even include that we had to wait 9 months after HoT release until we finally got the first episode - something which did not happen with Living Story 4 nor with The Icebrood Saga after the end of the former season... So no matter how you look at it current season is far faster with releases overall. 2. Lay-offs: As you can also see trough the link you posted: (Nearly) All of them left voluntary for different jobs. I assume ANet asked employees generally beforehand so they know if and how many people from the side projects they will reintegrate into GW2 since many of them were workiing on GW2 originally - they confirmed that they reintegrated some employees back into GW2... or more like they told these told themselves.
@@TheFiresDragon So you are saying the game DID lose a lot of people that worked on it, which is exactly what I argued? You are arguing my case? Does it make a difference whether it was voluntary if they are not working on it... Guess what the reasons for the constant lagging in newer maps is. Yes, indeed, because they lost a lot of engineers and nobody can make sense of the engine yet.
@@HalfLifeHalfDead They "lost" people workiing at GW2 and replaced them close to instantly with people from other projects, so the total amount of employees for GW2 basically did not change. If you still want to claim they lost employees, so does every company; it is called Life: People come, people go. I do not know why a smaller amount of specific maps is lagging - specially since it is always the same ones, it seems weird to me. Could be as well that AWS is to blame... only ANet might now.
I just installed the game today. I have friends I will play this with, and they’re quite experienced. I’m a completionist, so this feels actually crazy good for me. Yup. GW2 is designed so you just play the game. Not Grind and *then* play the game. The fun starts right away. Kinda like Animal Crossing minus the tutorial jobs at the start.

So true. I've been playing GW2 lightly too for past few years (in the past I played quite excessively) Just doing some maps, finishing story, enjoying some meta events and so on. Then I go back to stuff like POE to get sense of progression. I can always easily hop back into gw2 and not feel like I'm left behind.

They are a reason to stop for 15-20 minutes and just turn off the outside world only to listen to your evaluations. Thank you, really.
Honestly if you're looking for the "OP" ranged class in WvW: its Herald. Have a good group comp that just pins enemies down in a clump (usually using Mesmer pull followed by Scrapper thunderclaps for stuns) and you smack them with Hammer 3 and 2, watch people just blow up. Herald just has the problem that it needs support to keep alive and take down enemies. You'll be wanting to be in either berserker gear for max dmg or if you're not confident in keeping yourself alive you can use the Marauder stats. At least on NA: Herald also uses Sword/Sword for their second weapon where you use Sword 4 to further immobilize enemies and hit them with Sword 2 for big dmg. But your primary dmg is going to come from hammer. You can also use staff for the utility in case you need to gtfo out need a cleanse.
Sorry to nitpick, but that would be Revenant with the Herald elite spec. Just wanted to throw this in for anyone that may be new and reading your post.

@@mr.grumps3544 exactly. they stated that they will be releasing content similar to living world season 1 after the third expansion. so if anything, I'm actually really excited if they discontinue expansions for a while.
When HoT came out (5 years ago?) there was a report done by a board in which they said they would do two more expansions. After that if financial performance was not up to scratch then yes, the 3rd expansion would be the last. Personally I believe it will be the last, but there’s always a chance I guess.

@@garuda4361 PvE is really hit or miss. You don't really improve your gear that much. Stats are just different, not really higher. And the PvE is really casual overall. But oh man the 5v5 pvp is the best I've ever seen. It's really deep and feels like a moba with 3 point caps instead of base taking.
I have been playing this game on and off for 7 years and have never done fractals, and only done dungeons, pvp, and wvw like once. All I do in this game is make new characters to roleplay, speedrun the world completion in pve, and collect cool armor. Its why I still love this game.
12:55 what other game lets you group up so easily like that? You didn't ask for invite, you can easily see people in the map, there's no "hey please invite". For me this is Gw2 biggest point, it's a CONVENIENT game, it doesn't creat problems to sell you the solution. I almost vomited when I played BDO with all those shitty systems trying to push me to cash shop. When I kill mobs in Gw2 the loot comes to my inventory automatically, I don't need T4 pets...
@ProseColored Glasses yes - you can basically buy almost-everywhere-servicable, almost-max gear at 80 for a few gold at the AH and have 10-15% by upgrading that to ascended. ascended takes a bit of effort to craft, in particular the first set (which is equivalent statwise to legendary. But legendary can freely choose its stat type, while ascended requires like 5g to change that). sPvP is normalized - no gear needed at all. All stats come from an amulet you choose. You also can just jump in after the intro. There are a few min-max items (infusions) that are actually expensive to get (comparable to a legendary weapon per character), but only give a few percent dps. To do the highest level fractals (think dungeons) you also need to do a one time grind to get enough fractal-specific resistence. This whole horizontal progression thing isnt really bad. I now drop games where the vertical progression is to aggressive (f**k farming softcapped lightlevels every few months and now even my godrolled weapons?! you okay destiny?). I dont need to refarm my gear arbitrarily because dev said so. I can return after a 6 month break and still do the new stuff. The game really lives more from the in-depth combat system. until you fully understand all 9 classes (which you kinda need to compete in spvp) there is a good 100-200 hours involved. Not to mention the skill needed to properly dodge and use active defenses - there is little room for "facetanking" (apart from that 6 month bunkermeta we don't talk about). Alting is very much made as easy as possible. ascended gear is account bound. If you played for a while a new max-level, battle-ready character takes 2hours, if you know what you are doing you can pull it off in like 8 without having xp tomes etc. The difference in group composition and understanding of your class is massive; Probably the most of any mmo ive played. Give 2 people the same build and one pulls 32k and another 13k. In open world where people casually run with whatever-gear and build the difference can get as extreme as 5 people doing as much damage as the other 45 in the squad combined.
@ProseColored Glasses there is gear progression in pve like fractals/raids and wvw but not like wow. It took me 5 months of fractal level climbing to get my first fully ascended set of armor and weapons and you can’t climb up until you have ascendeds either so its a slow process. I haven’t played WOW so I have no way to compare the depth of it. I am an exp pve player now with more than 20 fully ascended geared sets on my characters. And there are legendary gear too which you can grind to death for. I recommend you try the game out for yourself ;)
@ProseColored Glasses That is where GW2 falls down for a lot of players. I hit 80 on most of my alts in 2012. The gear they had then is still top tier now. So, if the constant pursuit if bigger numbers is your thing, then GW2 will let you down in that regard. For me, it's perfect. I get bored of any game after a few months and rotate around. Being able to come back to GW2 after a year and just pick up where I left off is amazing. Despite having logged a couple thousand hours into it there is still /so much stuff/ I haven''t finished. Like I still haven't crafted a Legendary Weapon (which, BTW, are no better stat-wise than other top tier weapons but look fucking amazing and alter some skill animations)., I would like to get more into WvW, which is the only kind of PvP that I really enjoy (large scale with strategic objectives, less about personal kill count because I'm a scrub). I haven't /really/ explored all the expansion zones. All the GW2 zones are full of secrets: hidden jumping puzzles, easter egg quests, hidden chests and the like. In addition most of the newerr zones have large meta events that I find quite satisfying to participate in. Since the main game is straight up free, and you can level to 80 and it has easily months of content, maybe give it a try. However, know that post about lvl 60, the game you are playing is the game. The actual game play doesn't change significantly after that. So, if you enjoy the moment to moment game play and are the kind of person who enjoys setting and pursuing your own goals goal (world completion, legendary crafting, fashion, achievement hunting) then you might find some good fun.
A friend in gw2 would talk with me about the stress he suffers on that lol. He had to take a break from playing for a few days and then goes back into grinding for mats.
@@2Btoobee I actually had to step away because of the skyscale. It really stressed me out. Am back working on it again. I still also need to get the beetle
Just wanted to chime in that slower content development caused by the layoffs stopped being a thing when Icebrood Saga started and currently the cadence is as regular as it should be - each month there is either an in-game festival or a new story chapter (along with occasional quality-of-life changes in smaller patches, like the upcoming new mastery line for Skimmer. If the new expansion is at least as succesful as Path of Fire, I can see ArenaNet going further witrh the game (especially since it's actually one of the most profitable games for NCSoft as far as Western markets are concerned - others are targeted msotly towards Eastern).
I think a lot of new players have that feeling but imo start with making some short term goals, like moving through the story, or learning to play a class in PvP, getting your mounts and gliding and the masteries for it, unlock your elite specs well this are all just suggestion but pick one or three of them. Also make long term goals like getting ascended gear, getting in to raids by starting up learning how to play through fractals and then training groups and strikemissions, legendary gear, backpacks and weapons and jewelry, farm gold for something you want from gemstore, well anything again that suits you. I think with goals you don't have to feel like you have to do everything at once but you start somewere which will take you somewere and then you go from there :)
Yeah I dont know what the comment about slow updates has been about to be honest. They're pumping out content episodes for Icebrood Saga like there's no tomorrow.
Is it really that profitable? Afaik their mobile games makes the biggest buck by a large margain, then lineage 1 and 2. But that was last time I checked, so who knows.
@@RavenL1337 Exactly like festivals in WoW. And ArenaNet at leas adds some new skins to their festival content each year, so it's still better than the stale bread from Blizzard.
It's a meme. The DX12 mod doesn't really do much where it matters. Where i get usually shit fps with DX9 it is the same with DX12 and yes it works for me.
Would be nice, but probably would require an engine overhaul. Honestly the game looks fantastic still. Maybe it doesn't compare to some more modern games but for an MMO it's got it going on. I really should redownload it and hit it up every now and then cause I do enjoy it.
The graphics isn't a problem, even tho the game is getting "old" it still look beautiful with its lighting, gear and such. The problem with the engine is how poorly optimized it is in crowded areas, such as world bosses
By far the best MMORPG out there. Great atmosphere/design, incredibly friendly community, top developers, all game modes are fun, no grinding, no p2w, engaging story. I can't think of anything bad to be truthful, you can always nitpick but I'm not petty like that.
I'll say, it's not good for the hardcore crowd unless it's PVP content. I feel like there's nothing to work towards except fashion. I like the more traditional style of MMO where I need to work hard to earn stuff.
GW2 is SO underrated. The game is extremely populated, there's 0 pay to win, it's very cheap. The amount of content you can get out of it for the price is just insane. There is content for everybody, chill pve, hardcore pve raids, chill WvW PvP, hardcore PvP. BTW, the layoffs did not affect Gw2 at all. They were people working on other projects, apparently games that'll never be released and had to get rebooted several times. There are very frequent REALLY HIGH QUALITY updates, and expansions.
The layoff did affect the game. Old Gamedevs of the game were moved to the new proyects and then layoff. In ls4 players notice how the volume of contents were reduced. Yes we had new maps. But raids were mostly abandoned, also fractals. And the maps were mostly a 2hr story and a grindy archivement mechanic. Pvp abandoned, wvw abandoned. They also didnt support big comunnitys events. Anet played their cards And tried to be not a one ip company. They failed, for the moment Now we have better.content because anet changed his direction and now is focusing full for the game.
A couple points that I think should be mentioned: - The most recent episodes of Icebrood Saga were not released with voice acting, because of the virus they had trouble getting actors to the studio. They do plan to add it retroactively when it becomes possible but as far as I know, several episodes are still unvoiced. - In regard to the layoffs, the company claims that it was almost entirely staff working on other side projects and that the move, while not ideal, represented a refocusing on GW2 and improving the stream of new content. So far I've found this to be credible, the new zones and story episodes feel like high quality additions that a lot of work went into. The announcement of a new expansion gives me hope as well. While it's been a couple months since I last checked up on the game, I did find that after the layoffs things actually seemed to get better, both in communication and content. It's just sad that it took such a cut to the company's size to accomplish that.
They told us a few weeks ago that they will start adding the story voiceacting for the older chapters in september, so hopefully we will see this comming so i can play it though again.
Yeah, despite the layoffs it does appear that they're giving us more content at the same rate as previously. Like in previous editions we almost never got new weapons and armors outside of the cash shop with living world, now we are, and it seems like there's a lot more minigame style things being introduced too, and at least from the few maps i've done this season they've seemed much larger and "filled" than the other ones that run the same like 8 events on loop.
I played GW2 7 years ago. I cannot wait to build my PC to play it again. I've always loved this game because I'm a PVE player and this is such a perfect PERFECT game for me!
This game is close to my heart as the prequel got me through a hard period in time. Started the beta of gw2 at the start with like 15 people. All of them dropped off. Good thing this game is very casual, i log in every day to grab some login rewards and chests but until i have the time to binge for half a year and then go back to just daily logins.
I also wanted big burst damage and long range so went with deadeye, it's got some burst but it's extremely squishy and in big zergs its not good at all. I'm new so maybe I'm not the best person to say yet, but I'm now levelling ranger as it has higher range, more aoe and less squishy according to others. Will see. Deadeye is okay but wasn't quiet there for me.
LP play zergfights. A deadeye have zero meaning in a zerg fight and he would likely not even get in to a squad because a squad is about aoedamage, boonshare and stick on the comander, somthing a DE is not meant to do anything of it. So at least give him sugestions to something he can use in zergfights like Necro scourge or reaper and revenant. Ele works too.
@Devin Belver None of those sugestions have a spot in a zergfight, it is all roaming sugestions. Joining with a longbow dragon hunter and you will be asked to swap to firebrand or get the hell out.
Tindra is right. For WvW Zerging (what he was asking for), the main dps choices are either Scourge or Herald, with the elementalist as a more-niche-but-still-viable pick. Ranger, thief and DH only work on small scale roaming, they're ineffective on large scale zerging since they are less synergetic than other classes within this environment.
You need Path of Fire for them. Raptor you get right away, same with bunny and skingray thingie. The other ones take a bit longer. Skyscale... just enjoy the griffon for a while cuz that little fucker takes some time lol
a very good way to start off this game is to look for a community ts³ or dc server that's organizing events and group activities, they are a wonderful way to learn the game and meet people even for a (mostly) lone wolf player like myself, whenever i feel like talking to someone about the game, i just hop in, look what the current/next organized event ist, and join them once they start and just like ingame the people doing or joining these events are usually very friendly and a pleasure to talk to, can highly recommend
Too bad the first like 20 hours of the game have absolutely zero content and you do nothing, but mindlessly run around killing mobs until you reach an appropriate level to actually start playing the game
@@helgenlane Sounds like you wouldn't last 2 hours in classic wow if you think this game is slow in rolling out content. just play wow retail or FFXIV if you want your hand held the entire time you're levelling. Thanks peon for still coming back and enjoy Gw2 and making videos of it, i hope you can get more in depth with the game and upload more content from it in the future. Some things to consider: Fractals (new huge update and new fractal coming in a few days), Raids and Newly added feature Strike missions are really fun endgame content. PS: World completion is supposed to be character bound because it rewards you with exclusive Legendary materials for Legendary weapons.
Been going at GW2 since the pre-release. Great game, lots of content. However it is possible to burn yourself out. I log in to play for an hour or so here and there. I can't wait for the new expansion as I am excited to see what new content comes with it. 8th Birthday for my main in 3 days so I will definitely be on to collect that for the new infusion.
If you have time and are interested in story, try to play season 4 episode 4 to 6. Those are probably the best story telling and epic/beautiful cutscenes.
Is it worth it for me to grind the gold for gems or just buy on discount? I want to play for the story in order but I am missing most of the episodes of each season.
@@Olzme one episode is 200 gems individually so about 65g, you might have to farm 3 or 4 hours for that depend on what you do. If you just do the story and don't care about any map achievement, collections and skins it will feel quite short and may not be worth the grind, but if you go for some of those rewards you can easily spend over 10 hours playing per episodes so the grind would feel less painful.
The reason why map completion isn't account wide is because at least in core maps, map completion is one of the steps to craft a legendary weapon (thus it needs to be done multiple times to create multiple weapons). I only do map completion on my main alts and thats how it should be played. No point in map completing on less played alts. For WvW Scourge used to be just what you wanted, big spike aoe ranged damage, but this was just too broken in WvW (the main point of complaint by WvW players for more than 2 years in fact). Finally Anet nerfed it and it no longer holds that place as the most OP class in WvW. It still does fairly well but there are other classes now that might be stronger. The meta is slowly shifting into melee fights it seems.
I have done full map and story completion with all my ten characters. That's because i don't really have a main and i like to play all of them, so i want to be able to access all content with all characters. :P
@@awesst7247 I see it as alts you are actually playing, geared up characters that has a different profession from your "main main". Non main alts include loot caddies and weekly black lion key farmers.
Whoever is thinking of playing this game, just start playing it. I guarantee you will not regret your decision. There is just SO much to do in the game. When you get to max level the game hasn't even started. The community is amazing too. What I like most is that most of the time, if I want to give them some money for helping me out, they refuse. People just seem to want to help you. Plus, the game is really quite beautiful. And If you install Reshade, the game is truly stunning. You will get many years of gameplay out of this, especially if you are working on Legendary armor / weapons. PLUS they are releasing another expansion which will add even more content.
It wont be in 2021 likely 2022 at the earliest give that this saga has one more season according to them and we haven't finished the first season. (They said its gonna basically be 2 seasons in the announcement) And likely since the announcement that they had begun working on one came only a good four or so months ago, likely its still in early production because they made it clear that they weren't working on and didn't plan for one at the beginning of the saga.
@@96lol820 Recently it was also said that there was indeed may be more. (Within that post he also said, it was what he could find.) Eight episodes match up to early (S2 and 3 ) size seasons. But they did say in the announcement that it would be larger than living world. And that shaman datamined information around that time, that likely it would be 2 seasons. Which would mean if this seasons is 8 then in total the saga would be 16 (!7 with grothmar) This lines up with the expansion started development late, and gives them time to make the expansion which at this stage likely is not done.
I only started about a monthish ago and I find that playing the path of fire expansion first got me more into the game, rather than playing the first storyline
When you purchase an expansion the associated "unlockable builds” aka elite specializations are automatically available in sPvP. Only in PvE do you have to learn them
I have been playing GW2 for the last 9 years. Fantastic game. I got 44 characters at level 80 with full Tyria map completions and an additional 3 characters as mules with 7 empty character slots for more units. So many many maps to explore in and things to do in this game- it has it all.
had a long time off playing gw2 ...but now i'm so hyped and excited to play it again ! Why? because wow Sl disappointed me in many ways ! And when i see this beautiful world it annoys me that I haven't looked in more often! Great vid and thx for the impressions!
Keep in mind that the core game has all the professions (classes) but each Expansion added a new elite specialization to a professions. Try out different professions. If you buy the expansion you should get more character slots than the standard. Resist the auto level until you played around a little. The fastest way to level is the main story mixed with events.Have fun.
@@shadowroses5 there's crafting, exploration, story, jumping puzzles, so many collections, trading post plays (only if super rich already lol), playing instruments. There's a ton of things to do aside from actually fighting and playing the game. Hehe
Gw2 is one of the most fun MMO out there, not the best and you usually always take some sort of brake with it, and it's totally normal. The cool part about it is that when you come back after this break, you are just picking up where you left, contrary to let's say WoW where you need to catch up every reputation, grind, raid tiers , stuff. There is a lot to do on Gw2, beside the combat of course. There's a lot of event, the story is update basically every 2 months or so, completely free with no subscription whatsoever and if you connect during the moment the story is happening, you get it for free. There is also all the transmog collection to get, and a lot of them are not RNG based, but more objective base, or achievement, or some sort of grind. You also have all the crafting that is hell lot of complex, fun, and relevant at all stage - also you have legendaries that are massive crafts that require an insane amount of farm and investment, but are so worth. You also have jumping puzzle which some are really challenging. You have a huge amount of achievement to get from various source. You have the exploration, you have some races, a lot of activity with guilds (you can have up to 5 different guilds) I think I've miss up some stuff (for non-combat related) but you have so much stuff to do
Memories. I built my first ever PC from ground just to play this game in summer 2012 after playing Guild Wars 1 from 2008-2011 extensively. Time flies.
I always end up returning to GW2 as well. There’s something about it - I never play it for a year straight yet I end up coming back to it at least once a year for months at a time. It’s a beautiful, convenient, community oriented game that focuses on exploration and collecting. It’s a very casual MMO, leaving band coming back...feels good in its own way.
I've pretty much no lifed GW2 for like 5 years. I think even tho this game is very casual, if you're a hardcore player who does love collecting things & doing achievements there isa A LOT to do in this game if you want to. One thing I personally don't like is that they seemed to have shifted focus from new content to putting out more & more skins & items in the cash shop. Still one of my favourite mmo's of all time though.
@@nocchi.9589 I'm not just talking about recently. It's gotten worse since the HoT expansion but it was fine. Since PoF They've gone a bit too far for me personally.
@@Veeqaliber I'd definitely say yes. It's free to start with so you can see how you like it. A lot of people get bored of it quickly because they don't really get how the game works but if you get into it it's really good.
For anyone watching this in 2022, they just released the expansion and it was a success! Also, they announced the 4th expansion, a roadmap of content for this year, Steam release, DirectX 11 update, and that they are going for the long term, and that they are 100% focused on GW2. The player base more than doubled in the last 3 years.
Out of all MMO's and I've played them all, this one seriously feels like a true RPG game as well as an MMO. Yeah there is cookie cutter builds available, but the fact you can build the character you want as well as you actually have decisions to make in the story make this feel like an epic adventure. Exploration is encouraged and the PvP for me is one of the best on the market, also I love the art style and think the game holds up in 2020 as still being beautiful to look at. I'm a WoW and fan mainly and usually PvP is my focus, but GW2 is always such a nice change when you're sick of the same arena / BG spam and want to get into something that feels quite similar but also entirely new and different.
Longtime GW2 player and have loved it for years. Friendly community, beautiful environments, endless objectives, effortless immersion, challenging gameplay available but not required every single freaking time. Good times. ♥️
I played beta and pre-ordered the game in 2012, stopped playing in 2014. Then my son (8) found the GW2 box one day a year ago and asked what game this was, he was interested in it and I thought it would be too complicated for him, but after a few weeks he got the hang of it and started getting really interested in it, so I got back into it and played with him. Today we have 21 level 80s between us and we still playing the game together on a daily basis. The community is nice, and there is SO MUCH to do! We occasionally do WvW, but we mostly explore the world together in PVE, work on mounts (only Skyscale left), Season 3, 4, and 5 meta maps, weapon skins, lengendary weapons, ascended crafting, world completion. Some of my most memorable gaming moments come from this game; playing it for the first time, discovering Rata Novus by accident and going through the event chain, finishing Path of Fire story line together. If you like story, exploring and PvE more than PvP content, I don't think there's a better option for breadth and longevity than Guild Wars 2.
3:33 "I've just transfered to a new server called descolation, and the population seems really good. Plenty of players hanging around Lion's Arch" Oh sweet summer child
Guild wars 2 is the best side mmo you could ever have. Since you never really fall behind but you can still progress in the form of achivements, map progression and acendant/legendary gear that are a slight upgrade over the welfare gear but takes a long ass time to get you always have something to do but if u take a few month break it dosent really feel like it hurt you. I really love this game but I do not main this game.
I'm actually coming back to the game for the first time since launch year. The amount of content now compared to launch looks very exciting. Hopefully it'll hold a candle to my favorite mmo ever, guild wars 1.
The video was nicely done. Very informative and like you, I am itching to play an MMO and haven't played this game in years. I am downloading it now and will give it a go. Cheers!
Ohh man, when you play WvW and you take part in some huge fights with DOOM music playing in the background it makes me SMILE from ear to ear ;) If You still looking for range AoE dmg class i recommend Elementalist or one of its specializations (with staff), other range AoE i recommend is Necromancer specialization called Scourge. And since you join Desolation server we can play some WvW together if you wonna, just let me know, have a great day.
A note about Scourge though, it's not really as much damage as other classes and the range isn't as great either. However it has a lot of utility by providing boon corruption and barrier. Just a bit of tradeoff from some of the other higher damage classes.
Brilliant video! I missed this game and kind of forgot about it. Haven't played it since the base game but I put hundreds of hours into it back then. Great work, thanks to you I'm going to check it out again!
a non-biased answer, unlike @TheFiresDragon GW2 end-game is HORRIBLE...no gear progession aside from Legendaries and because thats the only gear progession available, they made it to were it can take MONTHS to get ONE.....End-game is pretty much a Fashion Show...thats all I love the game and have multiple 80's but i can never stay for too long as there is no end-game to look forward to
GW2 will always be my rose colored glasses MMO. Had like 5000 hours in it back in the day. It will just live in memory though because I wouldn't be able to get into it like I did back then. Highly recommend experiencing it fully at least once to any MMO player who hasn't.
Really great explanation of how this game can represent such a change in the dynamics of the MMO genre. More companies should move in this direction for sure. Love your videos as always, not trying to fanboy GW2 or anything, but a few things for the cons section. Just a few qualms with the cons portion of the video: - Guild Wars is on Mega Servers. The only aspect that servers are really affected by is WvW. - The game has not slowed down on content. We get new Living Story packs every three months for free. They are 3-4 hour chunks of story. With small windows of time in between the last episodes of dead time. With many new masteries to unlock and develop. I do however think that the argument could be made for veteran players, this is not enough at times. - Map completion can't be account-wide, as it is tied to getting some of the more elite items in the game. If it was, then the item needed would then be multiplied by the number of characters you have, rendering the special item (Legendaries) useless. I suppose at this point in the game, yea everyone pretty much has one, but new players need something to strive for.
the best mmp game ever, good history, awesome pvp, beautiful maps and land, very deep classes cusatomization, original classes that ever seee before on a mmo like mesmer engineer, revenant etc, for me the best!!
I like how you can tie-in your Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 in the same account and acquire more achievements and some content from playing Guild Wars. Like getting heritage armor skins (love it or hate it), achievements with titles, and other stuff I’m probably forgetting.
The biggest issue with the game is the performance. It doesn't make use of multiple CPU cores so the performance is the same as a 10 years old CPU. I need to reduce the number of players drawn on screen when doing World Bosses because 200 players in the same place means 20 FPS and lower.
That's true. It's because the game engine is really old. You can try to set character model quantity and quality to lowest to limit the number of other players showing up on your screen to get an additional 20 FPS or so, but that does not solve the main iussue, sadly. There are ways to make the game run with DX12 instead of DX9 though, and that apparently makes things work a little better, or so they say (never tried myself).
yes d912pxy helps quite a lot on older systems to get better lower fps about 10 more I would say nonetheless in big fights only option to get enough fps is to use lower model limit
@Zahiro ya, and i usually follow this role in shooter fps game, but try to maintain high or at least good in mmorpg to enjoy the beauty of the game, MMO usually beautiful in nature
if you want good burst dps with some good dots and a variety of strategic options, elementalist is the class to pick you don't get the weapon swap feature the rest of the classes do, but the attunements more than make up for it
As somewhat of an WvW veteran your comments are quite funny :D those canons need to be destroyed, otherwise your zergs gonna get in trouble - the commander did a good job focusing it. There's a lot more to zerg fights than just attacking red dots :P ^^
A few notices from 22: There are megaservers, where the server you chose only matters for WvW anymore. You share maps with the whole EU/NA. (Have been when you made this video.) Fourth expansion confirmed, but the third one concluded the dragon story, being called End of Dragons and having a final map calle Dragon's end.^^ So, more is going to happen in the world, but we only got a few hints about that. WvW is getting a revamp. So is the whole new player experience before GW2 releases on Steam.
It is worth to mention that server choice only matters for WvW (World versus World). In PvE all servers are merged into a mega-server (1 for US, and 1 for EU).
I'd love ArenaNet to make Guild Wars 3 someday, hopefully in a better engine, what do you guys think?
I hope for a remastered updated Guild Wars 2 :)
I would prefer a remasted guild wars 2, I dont think arenanet would make a guild wars 3.
That would be awesome but isn't ArenaNet having monetary issues right now?
i love the leveling experience of gw2, but end game is the most convoluted thing I've ever experienced. I've leveled 4 classes to 80 and every single time i got so lost and confused i quit the game after hitting max level.
End game in gw2 is just so extremely confusing.

Is this game okay if you spend lowly or not spend at all (pure f2p)? Just wondering since I wanted to get into mmos

True, should have added that to the pros list
How so?
Jackal: teleports Skimmer: moves over surfaces you can't normally walk on like water. (soon it will swim under it too) Roller Beetle: fastest ground mount but hard to steer. Gryphon: a mount that is the fastest from the air compared to other land or air mounts once you learn how and get to a high point to start with. I quit BDO 3 times this year and 2 times last year. This feels very relatable to me
Ive played Gw2 several times since 2012, i cant stick more than 3 weeks with it no matter what.

@@diversitycandle5708 I stopped playing just before Path of Fire expansion launched, I spent 3 whole month this year just to finish up on that expansion's contents
A few things to point out which are either wrong or misleading from the video:
1. Your World does not influence your sPvP or PvE population as long as you dont change between EU and NA server (Wiki: World)
2. Jumping Puzzles do not allow usage of glider nor mounts in their areas as long they were not explicitly made for them - in general climbing up to a Vista does not count as Jumping Puzzle
3. The limited up-time for "CashShop"-Items is nearly like this in every game since it is an easy way to encourge buying that stuff and therefore gives them more money (considering how low the costs of GW2 are I am fine with that)
4. The Warclaw ability actually does not finish people of anymore, it just deals increased damage to people in downstate
Legendary: Not better than ascended but many unique skins with a lot of animations and so on + ability to change stats anytime out of combat
I general the progession in GW2 happens trough Masteries (read it up), which unlock new mount typen, vendors, new interaction methods with the world around and so on, gathering achievements and skins as well as other cosmetical effects - obv. a lot of the more extreme effects or higher quality skins are pretty hard to get and require a lot of time investment and/or skill in different game modes.

Yeah but auto-group for quests creates the same problem LFG does. It removes the need to interact with other players.
@ProseColored Glasses There's no gear progression in sPvP, some - depending on your definition - in PvE though. But nothing like in WoW, etc

Exactly like festivals in WoW.

Do reshade then
The graphics isn't a problem, even tho the game is getting "old" it still look beautiful with its lighting, gear and such. The problem with the engine is how poorly optimized it is in crowded areas, such as world bosses

How was it?
They failed, for the moment
Now we have better.content because anet changed his direction and now is focusing full for the game.
@Tomasz the Producent So does your spelling.
One great thing about GW2 is that it doesn't remove old content or make it obsolete like WoW does. Expansions are actual expansions.
A couple points that I think should be mentioned:
- The most recent episodes of Icebrood Saga were not released with voice acting, because of the virus they had trouble getting actors to the studio.
"Big burst damage long range" - I think your best bet may be the deadeye (Path of Fire elite specialisation for thief). Acts like a sniper
Ranger, thief and DH only work on small scale roaming, they're ineffective on large scale zerging since they are less synergetic than other classes within this environment.
what'd you say about weaver with staff? got the range, solid damage and can support any time by switching to water
The last time I played GW2, there weren't any mounts. I'm installing it again as I type this.
Get ready for a bit of a grind BUT SO WORTH it
you need to play the level 80 story for mounts btw. 1-80 has no mounts to unlock.
It was added in an expansion
You need Path of Fire for them. Raptor you get right away, same with bunny and skingray thingie. The other ones take a bit longer. Skyscale... just enjoy the griffon for a while cuz that little fucker takes some time lol
a very good way to start off this game is to look for a community ts³ or dc server that's organizing events and group activities, they are a wonderful way to learn the game and meet people
even for a (mostly) lone wolf player like myself, whenever i feel like talking to someone about the game, i just hop in, look what the current/next organized event ist, and join them once they start
and just like ingame the people doing or joining these events are usually very friendly and a pleasure to talk to, can highly recommend

We don't have expansion date yet :/.

Eight episodes match up to early (S2 and 3 ) size seasons. But they did say in the announcement that it would be larger than living world. And that shaman datamined information around that time, that likely it would be 2 seasons.
You have the exploration, you have some races, a lot of activity with guilds (you can have up to 5 different guilds)
I think I've miss up some stuff (for non-combat related) but you have so much stuff to do
Still one of my favourite mmo's of all time though.
im new should i play it
@@Veeqaliber yes go for it
The reason they’re currently putting out skins and items in the cash shop is because it’s their anniversary sale 💀💀💀
GAME SUCKS. I JUST DOWNLOADED THIS GAME. FIRST MINUTE. COMBAT SYSTEM FELT OUTDATED. PS4 GAMES MUCH BETTER THAN THIS. GOTY GAMES
a dead game indeed!
@@MarilleteDugayo ? :D
@@DigitalGameDiaries What are you on plz, I want that as well :D
The decisions in the story stop affecting anything after the base game. They never continue that into the expansions to any real degree, sadly.
Plenty of players hanging around Lion's Arch"
Oh sweet summer child
I think he doesn't know about how the servers work XD
For sure the best thing in this game is the freedom of leting it go for a while and coming back with no regrets.
Cheers!
Ohh man, when you play WvW and you take part in some huge fights with DOOM music playing in the background it makes me SMILE from ear to ear ;)
If You still looking for range AoE dmg class i recommend Elementalist or one of its specializations (with staff), other range AoE i recommend is Necromancer specialization called Scourge.
The Undead Invasions are also really fun. I absolutly love this events in GW2, the openworld events are great!
Very nice unbiased review as usual. Nice one peon.
Brilliant video! I missed this game and kind of forgot about it. Haven't played it since the base game but I put hundreds of hours into it back then. Great work, thanks to you I'm going to check it out again!
You nailed the pros and cons, you really have a good understanding of the game and how to explain it
"Icarus - a AAA mobile game" Well that's a contradiction in terms right there in't it?
It's 'aaa' mobile game, the sarcasm is baked right in.
An awful ache sounds fine to me
CoD Mobile is a triple A mobile game. On my ipad pro has stunning graphics.
Pretty sure its relative to the budget and quality of other trash mobile games
No such thing as " AAA mobile games" lol
Correction: GW2 use megaservers so it doesn't matter what server you pick.
Correction: It does matter for WvW, but not for Open World and sPvP ^^
a non-biased answer, unlike @TheFiresDragon
GW2 end-game is HORRIBLE...no gear progession aside from Legendaries and because thats the only gear progession available, they made it to were it can take MONTHS to get ONE.....End-game is pretty much a Fashion Show...thats all
I love the game and have multiple 80's but i can never stay for too long as there is no end-game to look forward to
Deadeye Thief is literally "Big burst long range damage" as the sniper class
It's the spec that edgy noobs play in PvP and it's massively annoying.
Ok bro lmao
@@manthe3711 use reflect missiles and revealing skills, and laugh at them
@@scarocci7333 I'd rather use the n-word.
Just a few qualms with the cons portion of the video:
- Guild Wars is on Mega Servers.
13:51 "You all want to stand on top of each other" -> zerg gets immediately easily AOE'd to death by delighted enemy zerg hahaha
This part had me rolling LOL
Thomas the Tank Engine clip while getting rolled lol
the best mmp game ever, good history, awesome pvp, beautiful maps and land, very deep classes cusatomization, original classes that ever seee before on a mmo like mesmer engineer, revenant etc, for me the best!!
I like how you can tie-in your Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 in the same account and acquire more achievements and some content from playing Guild Wars. Like getting heritage armor skins (love it or hate it), achievements with titles, and other stuff I’m probably forgetting.
Great video, I've really wanted to get back into this game, but had no idea how anything worked. Very educational
Haven't seen this yet but it's pretty good.
Gw2 needs tea ruclips.net/video/Kscsc5lCr9Y/видео.html
Give it a try. I was "meh" before I downloaded it and it turned out to be one of if not the best mmo I have played.
I think its better than ESO but that is my opinion
gw2 is the best, believe me
It is so good. Casual , no crying over loot. Lots to do. No end
14:43 "This is gonna be an epic battle, let me turn the graphics down" --MMORPG Goals. Finding good player base game
@Zahiro ya, and i usually follow this role in shooter fps game, but try to maintain high or at least good in mmorpg to enjoy the beauty of the game, MMO usually beautiful in nature
I adore this game, the attention to detail the constant easter eggs and beautiful music and voice acting is incredible
if you want good burst dps with some good dots and a variety of strategic options, elementalist is the class to pick
you don't get the weapon swap feature the rest of the classes do, but the attunements more than make up for it
I'm downloading the game now this looks really cool:)
Best mmo ever! Came back after 5 years and realized how much I missed world vs world
As somewhat of an WvW veteran your comments are quite funny :D those canons need to be destroyed, otherwise your zergs gonna get in trouble - the commander did a good job focusing it. There's a lot more to zerg fights than just attacking red dots :P ^^
A few notices from 22:
There are megaservers, where the server you chose only matters for WvW anymore. You share maps with the whole EU/NA. (Have been when you made this video.)
Fourth expansion confirmed, but the third one concluded the dragon story, being called End of Dragons and having a final map calle Dragon's end.^^
So, more is going to happen in the world, but we only got a few hints about that.
WvW is getting a revamp. So is the whole new player experience before GW2 releases on Steam.
It is worth to mention that server choice only matters for WvW (World versus World). In PvE all servers are merged into a mega-server (1 for US, and 1 for EU).
