- The Second Coming is an event that is mentioned over 2500 in the Bible and was to be kept at the forefront of our minds, our teaching and our outreach but it had been lost sight of in the middle ages in the church. This chapter outlines how prophetic fulfillment in the 1700's and 1800's helped to publicise this belief and make both Christians and non-Christians think about it and plan for it again!

And one more thought. When I first became an Adventist and heard about the Dark Day, The story was told of one particular state legislature which was about to adjourn due to the darkness. One of the legislators said "gentlemen if this is indeed the Day of Judgement, I wish to be found at my post working". So they continued meeting. Thinking about this later on, I realized the Dark Day took place in the middle of the Revolutionary War, when Britain was still fighting to have the final authority. So is it possible that while the American colonists, who were Deists, in trying to build a political heaven on earth were given a message that there is a heaven above they really need to consider?
The signs shows us the nearnest of Gods coming. It is prudent for us to make the necessary preparations so that we will be able to stand. Sabbath blessings one and all.

A few years ago I watched a documentary on the Lisbon Earthquake. It started by saying the earthquake happened on a Sunday, when the churches were full. It ended by saying that the ideas of the French Enlightenment took hold in Portugal that day. Recently I came across a short video discussing a man who lived through the earthquake and sent out messages to other areas asking for a rundown on the event. When did the tremor start and how much damage did other cities get? The video alluded to this man coming up with a scientific explanation for it, therefore taking away any kind of mystical "God did this" type of theology. So yes there was a literal earthquake, but the far greater shaking was the shaking of society's faith when we were able to explain nature more so than ever before.
