@stevesturdy4549 i made some assumptions my 10" housing didn't come with them... good to know. Might just be polymerization moly from breakin or assembly lube.
Steve your car and your trailer you should put airtag in those cuz I'm telling you dude there's some thieves out there and they're still in a lot of race cars and trailers
Dewey hilarious checking out the driveshaft and wanting some love from daddy but he has oily hands so had to hold off. Wonderful seeing Dewey being such a healthy good looking boy. ❤🐕❤️
Ok that ring gear has perfect wear. Dead center. And that fluid looked amazing. Now that is engineering perfection. That dust is probably nothing more than the very tiny ribs of the machined finished. Hence the polished look
Looking forward to seeing you and Alex going at it this year hopefully you have better luck this year. I am really looking forward to some trash talking between you two.
The oil sprayer is pretty smart! May include an oil cooler for you drag and drive guys? Idk, it has very minimum metallic debris in the oil, may not need with the sprayers.
drag cars especially are always abused, hardly any warmup if at all to migrate the pile to bearing, then blasted wide open for burnout, then staged and launched like an missile. gee what could ever go wrong? bearing only hold so much oil and unless you warm them up( idle spinning on stands) they rarely get enough pre-lube and the remainder in the bearing races isn't quite enough, also the pump helps with cooling it all.
I wonder if that coating stuff would work on say someone sitting in the water!🤔🤔🤔 Like the impellers and jet pump housing! Doesn't have wear rings and the impellers are likely $1,500 a piece!
Always great information and presented with humor and knowledge! Oh yeah, and Dewey the shop dog inspecting everything! One other thing, the roll out of the tires is circumference, not diameter. I know, picky but thought should be clarified.
Looking forward to the G3 Hemi detailed breakdown of shiny bits video. As to the tires with the promod making 50 passes before a swap, those cars weigh about 1000 lbs. less than the wagon, correct? They're subjected to less PSI on the contact patch so that's something to keep in mind. Lastly, no video should be without Scooby Dewey making a cameo. LOL Cheers!
Do I sense slight digs at other steel cars that were more than capable but got cut in half by a young ferret? You are the most capable guy on you tube Steve. Always learn something. Thank you.
You have learned some really good things about tires Steve who ever you're talking to they know tires keep taking to them because you are right on the money!
To pull my rear 31x18.5” tire and wheel on my 1960 Hillman Husky 2 dr wagon Pro Street car I have to pull some bolts out of the ladder bars, shocks and loosen the whole side of the rear end I’m removing them from. Rear pain since those the tires are tucked way up inside the wheel wheels and quarter panels. 😊
Loving the tyre tech talk Steve! Really feeling the Sick week build up! The trick evolution of the wagon is a work of art. It takes me back to something over here 🇬🇧 in the early to mid nineties. I’m a flat four man, and a creative friend built a beetle race car called Bugster. He chopped and channeled the body, took a mould and produced each panel in Kevlar then attached to his space frame chassis. So similar to yours with removable quarters (albeit yours being steel). His damn car barely got as high as your nipples! It was a work of art. Anyway, thank you for the video and the informative tech as always 🤙
I’m sure he’s fine. He’s a super busy guy, and we just came through the holidays… who’s to say the man didn’t take some time for himself and his family?
@@danmyers9372why you think him saying they hope all is well for Kevin is a bad thing. Some people a genuine in wishing well upon others. Would you rather him say f?c& ksr they’re on this drug or that drug and their cars suck like some of these idiots. We can assume Kevin is slammed with work and life. He is a small shop who is super busy and he lives his kids. No news is good news. So many idiots have been talking bad on him and Steve because of mullet. Those people are retards and don’t understand cars and engines. Kinda like people who get super defensive when well wishers pray for people!!!
Commenting so the algowhatevers keep it up. I'll go rewatch the other one too. It sometimes amazes me the similarities between our worlds. In the video some of them include growing tires(we do that a lot on dirt and asphalt alike), I also switched rear ends after exploding a 9"(leading, turning 8100 when it let go. That 8800 rev limiter struggled!), carbon fiber driveshafts( huge safety for circle track cars).
You are very right about "stretching" the tire/s Steve. I learned that trick in 79 when I was racing my A/SM Camaro out of Batten's shop. I was at Indy at a Divisional and kept watching how Don Bowles was handing everyone in the class their a$$! Other than the fact that Jack (as in Roush), was the crew chief and had every secret weapon in the car, Don was putting everyone away, especially on the short side. I got curious and went to his pit and talked to him, (Don). I asked him what tires he was using and of course he replied, "what the class requirement is." Class requirement was 10.5-inch width. Well, they looked like they were 12" wide. They were Firestones and the width was 10.5 ON THE TIRE. I measured them and they were 11.5"!! Needless to say, I asked him if he wanted to sell them. He thought about it for a minute (without talking to Jack), and he said "sure, you can have the wheels as well for $500." A no-brainer there. When I got back to Batten's I told him about the experience and he chuckled, slightly. I said, "what's so funny," and he proceeded to school me on the "stretching" trick. A lesson well learned!
The tire size difference makes perfect sense if you think about it. If you cut the 16" wheel/tire in half from top to bottom, the wheel and tire is half a doughnut. the diameter of the two cuts which is the tire and wheel cross section will be 4" more with a 20" wide wheel.
Time 635 Jack screws to remove cover. Grind the end of the bolts flat that are being used otherwise the end of the bolt will tear up the surface. Most bolts have a rolled thread and this results in a sharp end.
"Change fluid not parts" is great. When I was much younger, an old timer once told me "oil is cheaper than metal" and it's stuck with me for decades, I still say it to this day.
Whats the reason that the tires of the back axle are so close to the gears? Forces, straight line or fitting the wide tires in? The difference😉 in the 2 difs. The old one ,,platemounted,, and a housing put on, the new one ,,housemounted,, a plate put on.
You guys with the half million dollar cars should stay at the same hotel and then arrange a designated spot to park then spring for a couple of security guards to watch everything over night, I'm sure you'd get a better nights sleep. Might be worth the extra expense but split between 10 guys I'm sure it wouldn't be that big of a hit.
Steve is and all of us circle track racers have this problem but we are trying to make the right rear bigger we fill it with 60 lbs of are set it in the sun and let it stretch and they are Hoosiers . It works we can get over an inch sometimes but it takes a couple days in the hot sun and more air . Be carful .
I'm curious to see if the turbo coating affected the impeller speed when coming up on boost, compared to without in the past. It will be hard to tell what it does once on the 2-step since the wastegates are working from that point on. But should make the turbos more efficient across the board, and quicker to recover down track.
You need to hook up your trailer to the wagon before leaving for sick week. I think you will hit your rear tires strapped to the front of the trailer before you can complete a normal turn. Meaning you either need to lengthen your trailer tongue, hitch or find another spot for the tires.
Make sure all your trans/fuel/oil/coolant lines are good so no tire shake leaks. Take spare trans/converter and driveshaft yoke ujoints rockers lifters springs valves retainers locks pushrods headgaskets fluids and whatever else you can fit in alex😂

The Alex trailer deal is so funny , you know she's going to get you back. 😂
Same size gear as a 1 ton duramax...thats some beef. Highly recommend adding a magnet keeps the pump from squirting metal bits into the bearings.
Already 2 big azz magnets in this 20K rear end!

Good advice, definitely needs multiple trackers, Niviac57 lost heavily to thieves.
there is toms system to after his Mopar's got stolen
I don't think a thief couldn't even get the car started 😂 not saying that keeps it safe just a funny thought
Air tags? don't you've proper tracker systems?
I believe you on to something with the removable rear quarters! I bet we see that incorporated into a lot new and existing builds!
I suggested to Cameron Johnson he should do the same thing on Cleetus’ Mullet. I think they’re gonna do it.

To put that rear end in perspective, the 2024 Duramax uses a 12" ring gear for a towing capacity of 31,000 lbs with a vehicle weight of 7,000+ lbs.

Break in the new tires when testing and adjust the diameters. Then take them of the rims and keep them until you need to swap.
With the tires on the tongue of the trailer can you still turn sharp enough.
