  • Do you have a PAIN in your shoulder when working out and you aren't sure what's causing it? My good friend Dr. Spencer Baron, a Sports Physician, shows us some simple tests you can do yourself to test each of the four muscles of the rotator cuff (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis). In this series we'll dive into all the gym related injuries and pains that you might feel when working out and then help identify what the pain is, what's causing the pain and how to fix the pain. Welcome to the series Gym Pain, Problem & Solution.
If you have a shoulder injury this is not a substitute for seeing medical professional. There's some shoulder pain we can treat ourselves and then there's some where we need to go to a doctor and get real medical advice.

Hello James, I´m 40 years old and I´m a beginner, completely new to the gym. A friend of mine suggested to look for James Grage to look for some information regarding training and nutrition. I found this video series with Kirby from five years ago. I´m also very skinny and I need to put on some muscle mass. Therefore I want to ask where I can purchase this beginner program. I can´t find an online shop or coaching service, programes etc. from you. I would really appreciate if you can tell me where I can buy this bodybuilding beginner program and if it´s for natural guys because I also heard that your stuff is just for guys on gear, whatever the differences are. Thank you very much. I appreciate your help and your valuable time.

Hello. So the there are a few programs out there that I put together that are free. You can find some stuff on Muscle & Fitness (60 Days to Fit) or also another program on Tiger Fitness. I am working on some new programs for our TA2 app that will be coming out in the coming months. As for part 2 of the question, be cautious who you listen to. There's a lot of nonsense out there. Yes, there's programs that I think would be unsustainable for a natural lifter due to the fact that the weekly workload versus recovery period is out of balance. When an athlete is taking performance enhancing drugs they are able to recover (and rebuild) much quicker than a natural athlete, therefore can push their limits more in their workouts. As for my programs, you'll hear people make accusations that I'm "on gear" which I find comical. I only weigh 180 lbs on my heaviest day and only about 165-170 when I'm really lean. If I can't achieve that naturally after 32 straight years of training then I should probably find another hobby that I'm better at. LOL

@@JamesGrage Hello James, thank you very much for responding to my comment, I appreciate this. I will look for these programs but where can I find the program you did with Kirby? The rotator cuff is such a fascinating muscle in the body. All of those tiny muscles working in unison through ranges of motion.

So I had to do an ultrasound to confirm it. So I guess it depends on how bad the tear is and what makes it worse. Lifting your arm vs lifting something heavier like weights.

Ok, I felt pain in my shoulder, and weakening, when I did the palms up and then raising up my arm like a side lateral raise. I've been nursing my right shoulder for quite a few months, using light weights and working my way back up. 15 lbs. still feels "heavy" and "taxing" when I do side laterals; I feel pain in the upper middle part of my shoulder when I start the side lateral raise, then it disappears as I get a few reps in, and this happens each set. I feel pain in the front part at the upper bicep area where the other video talked about where you guys stated it could be the tendons rubbing. Do I just need to have an MRI done to see what exactly is going on?

Yes, that's one of the most common. The way that the tendon sits in the small space between the humerus and the acromion (tip of the shoulder) makes it extremely susceptible to pinching and rubbing, causing irritation in the tendon (tendonitis)
