- The joy of acquiring a new classic car was hampered somewhat when my 1992 Oltcit (built in Romania, a cast-off Citroen design) refused to run. This time, I dig into the carburettor to see if I can fix it. This is the 1000th HubNut video! Thank you all so much for watching.

So pleased your channel is doing so well. Such a relief to have found a car nerd focusing on ordinary, every day cars and not £million dream machines only available to the super rich. Citroen badge represents chevron gear, which Andrè got patent to produce from polish gay when he was in Poland
Congratulations for this Oltcit, it's running beautifully! I just want to point out this is not the actual bottom of the range, it's something like mid range. There was an even more basic one without rear wiper and sometimes even without rear defrost. My friend has one of those basic ones but with the very rare green interior and i've driven it many times and done many kilometres in it.
That Oltcit is growing on me. Fairly conventional exterior, nicely wacky interior.
21:32 the Sierra owner in the next building makes RUclips videos and gets really fed up having to put #notmyoltcit on them 😀

Lovely shine for a red un. Enjoyed the 205 GRD, first diesel I bought for my driving school in 1986, a game changer very difficult to stall and it was the same Colour. GRD was the top spec then, XRD was the 2 door..

Never heard or seen Oltcit vehicles before but i like it.
It's a Citroen made in Olt County Romania, so the names was mixed Olt+Cit :)

What a little "pickle" when she kept stalling in the first few minutes; she reminded me of my F-reg Seat Ibiza 1.5GLX which used to behave exactly like that (she was Arantxa and her carb jets were very sensitive). Anyway, many congratulations on 1000 videos which have been so great to watch, and here's to many more.

Congratulations on the 1000th video, and for getting the Oltcit going! I like that car, and I'm looking forward to seeing more tinkering on it. A brake overhaul and a service would be a nice starting point and hopefully not too taxing a task. And yes, that logo really is like the Starfleet logo!

I can sympathise having been in this situation this month with my Metro after I appear to have previously run the tank dry. Replaced the fuel pump, filter, it had a recent new carb... but the fuel wouldn’t come from the tank. My quest continues. Congrats on 1000 vids Ian! 👏 🥳 🎉
Fuel line possibly clogged with crud. Blow the line out with compressed air. Open the petrol filler cap first.
@@brianevans656 thanks Brian, unfortunately after trying exactly that the fuel still wouldn’t come up! I suppose I could try adding another 5 litre jerry can of fuel to it before I get it recovered to a garage...

It's past 2am here in New Zealand, but I had to see if the Oltcit would properly cough into life. I think the tiredness and lack of sleep has contributed to make me feel giddy with pleasure when she stayed running.

My first thought of a name was 'Olga', but a quick search of Romanian names turns up 'Oana', a girl's name which apparently means 'charming light'.

Today filled up my little Peugeot 1007, €1,91 per liter (ouch).
1.91 a litre? does it run on smirnoff?
2€/L will be the European norm soon get used to it already. Inflation wise it's still cheap compared to other goods over the last 15 years.
€1.91?? Yikes! I filled up my BMW e46 coupe today and that was €1.63 I think? It was at a low cost/discount petrol station though (in Portugal)
In some countries you're also forced to fill up with 98, because 95 was replaced by E10

Having revived an AU Falcon (mine still had the headliner) that sat for 3 years, I know that feeling when the motor bursts into life for the first time. It's an ecstatic feeling that is only matched when it actually idles properly afterwards. Then when you actually get it sorted and roadworthy and registered. Keep going, it's vicariously filling my need to see old bangers come back to life and be enjoyed.
Congrats on the 1000 vids, and hopefully many more to come! Until your channel, I'd never heard of an Oltcit, and now you've got a runner! I got a "shades of Vice Grip Garage" chuckle when you turned on the fan, and all the crud began blowing out the vents, and the "no brakes". Yup. That's...fine...
Well done Ian, nice to see her running and driving! My thought when she would not start was that the needle valve was probably stuck closed, taking the lid of the carb was probably more than enough to unstick it. But looking at the crud in the bowl, I would say it was a very good job you did take the carb apart, you would not have wanted all that crud stuck in your jets. But so nice to see her coming back to life, a worthy event for the 1000th video!

I know you said on Twitter that the 1000 video mark sort of crept up and so you didn't have a "special" video to show but I think this was was more fitting for your channel. It is after all what this channel is known for. Tinkering on old or odd vehicles.

That's such a sweet little car, before you got one I'd never heard of them, shame they weren't in the UK in RHD because I could see myself in one of those, I think it would be great fun to drive. Very even sweet tick over, you did a great job there cleaning out the carb. Sounds really pokey too, revs so freely. Surprisingly well equipped considering it's such an old car, rev counter, intermittent rear wiper, lockable glovebox, two speed fan, radio etc. I was thinking it would look really nice washed as you pulled it out of the garage, you can tell from the paintwork it would come up well, and then you went and washed it, the old girl looks really nice with her red paint sparkling in the sunlight! Can't wait to see a long test drive on the road once the brakes and steering are sorted.
