"I think every single dive coaster starts with an Immelmann after the first drop"
Set off to fact check that and immediately remember that the original (Oblivion) doesn't have any inversions on it. But apparently the only other one that doesn't start w/ an Immelmann is a clone of Oblivion in Taiwan.
True, ok aside from the prototype
how do you never run out of GOOD ideas
Some come to me, others are suggested
@@AirtimeThrillsyou could do worst and best coaster stations as two different videos or as one
@@dhillonks371 yeah... comments like this are literally the reason why he doesn't run out of ideas lol
Hello I've been watching for a 3 years now. I have watched every single video since than. I just wanna say thanks for everything!
same, this guy is amazing. the amount of effort put into his videos is unmatched.
Thanks for watching!
TYSM FOR REPLYING!!
Such a great video with so much info! I feel like I would need to watch this at least 15 times in order to pass a quiz about the history of inversions.
My quiz from earlier this month is a good test of all this
Fun face: The Immelmann was a maneuver invented by a German WW1 pilot, Max Immelmann.
these video ideas are getting crazy man
Crazy good

It's off-season baby, Chris is getting wild
30 ways to lose your lunch. Nearly did on scream
1:40 this lasted longer than Top Thrill 2, Ring Racer and Twist Coaster Robin
seriously though. I hope that TT2 reopens in 2025 annd STAYS open for the WHOLE season
😂
A coaster going 100 mph in 1842 is insane 💀
Death trap
ikr 💀
I don’t believe that
It looks like a butterfly coaster too lmao
I don’t believe that for a second 💀
Thanks for another awesome video! I first thought I'd learn all these different inversion names and be able to identify them, but I think I'm sticking with "an inversion that..." and describe it. But next time I'm at Great America, I'll recognize the first zero-G roll and first zero-G stall.
6:55 Pinfari… made an SLC?????
Scary i know
They also made a looping coaster with two loops in a cork group. There’s a video app on RUclips where somebody did a POV on it in the 90s and the corkscrew part was very rough. So rough that the camera glitched out. The coaster lost its corkscrew several years later.
Batman The Cursed
Awesome video, Chris! I've been watching for a few years now, and every video has delivered. Keep it up, man!
Thanks!
I love these history type videos. You definitely need to do more🔥
What about *Pretzel knot* inversions? It's said to be similar to a batwing, but on entrance, the track crosses over the exit track.
Only two coasters used that element: Moonsault Scramble in Fuji-Q Highland (closed down in 2000) and Banshee at Kings Island.
I did wanna look at inversions that had an least 3 so the pretzel knot fell off
Finally we’ve been waiting for this type of video!
I was hyped to see the butterfly with Blue Hawk and Goudurix but never came :O
great list non the less !
Great video! Very comprehensive list! I really enjoyed watching this!
I love how there are so many innovative loops, but I wish more modern coasters would have a standard vertical loop as that is my favorite due to all the positive gs on it.
I love Airtime Thrills🔥🔥
You forget the SkyRush Twist.
It’s a turn that most people really enjoy and a few people like to complain about!
seems legit
This video was super cool. I think I might have one for your list. Butterfly on Goudurix, Parc Asterix
Albeit there are plenty of fun inversions I just love a good Zero-G-Roll:
Especially on B&M inverts, it feels so cool to be whirling around while feeling weightless ❤
Excellent narration and explanation of each inversion, especially the more obscure ones. As for my favorites, I love the batwings on Montu and Afterburn. I'll take one over a cobra roll pretty much every time. Hoping to ride Viper at Magic Mountain in the next couple months with its batwing which I hear produces a good bit of hang time. Also you can't ever go wrong with a good vertical loop, but in my opinion the inclined loop is a significantly underrated inversion and I wish we'd see them on more new coasters.
I never liked the inclined loops but do love me a good inverted batwing
You should do a video of what ride operators favorite inversions are based on their coasters that have them.
Schwartzkopf: loop
Arrow: corkscrew
Togo Heartline roll ect
Wooden coasters:
@sljs.trequartista Doesn't Outlaw Run have 3 inversions?
@@brockpiano traditional wooden coasters:
@ True
Great idea. Just would need a rule for double inversion, such as a Double Corkscrews counting as two Corkscrews (eg, 3 Loops, 1 Batwing, 2 Corkscrews)
Important to note: Depending on how you look at things, Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg wins the spot of being the first roller coaster to have interlocking loops on a technicality as Lightnin' Loops was technically two different roller coasters.
Can't argue there
Watching a video posted 17 seconds ago is diabolical
I might have been first bro. Look how fast my other comments wer. I got 9 sec
Quite a cliffhanger
9:58 squatted truck cameo 🤣
The Orient Express was the very first thrill coaster I ever rode. It probably wouldn’t be too impressive nowadays, but in 1995 it was freaking awesome.
Video idea: do a video where you assemble your ideal theme park, one of each model(can’t put 15 steel vengeance) but you also have to chose a location and check for surrounding parks and what they have
Ex: Louisiana, no coaster market, 15 coasters, steel vengeance as rmc, raging bull as hyper, veliocoaster as multi launch, voyage as woodie
Yes
Sounds like something to make in Planet Coaster or NoLimits 2
Very fun idea :) I am thinking about ride to happiness but I don't recall any step up under flip on that ride. I believe Mack calls it a double inverting dive loop, and I think it somewhat resembles the look of a flying snake dive (although I've not been on Storm Runner) but it does certainly not feel like a step up under flip :)
Wow, this video is very interesting!👍😀
I love how all three parks here in Missouri got a mention during this video. 😀
And another awesome video. Thank you!
Killer video but the use of Twisted Cyclone for the step-up under flip and the barrel roll down drop is incorrect. It's listed on Six Flags' website as the world's first reverse cobra roll. I understand that rcdb lists it differently but they also listed those Skyline monstrosities as rollercoasters lol. Gotta agree with the SF marketing team if you're gonna agree with the Skyline call.
For the Ohio park - it’s “Oh-Lin-Tan-Gee” “on the banks of the Olentangy” is always said about Ohio Stadium - oh yeah and national champs!!!
You can tell who is from Ohio and who is not. Always a joy to hear their pronunciations of that, Cuyahoga, Tuscarawas, and Bellefontaine 😁
I knew I would beef that. But congrats to the Buckeyes, they're sure happy they just launched that 12 team playoff
If you live in Idaho you can ride the original knots berry farm corkscrew in silverwood. I have and it’s not very fun but I do it every time because I consider it a right of coaster passage.
what about the rolling top hat seen on vekoma's top gun model?
I don’t know if it’s on any other coaster but banshee’s pretzel knot is one you missed!!
It was also on Moonsault Scramble at Fuji Q Highland which was like a boomerang but larger, in reverse, with different elements, and most importantly, way more intense. It closed in 2000 for Dodompa.
I was looking for inversions with at least 3 but you're right, there are 2 pretzel knots out there
6:56 Why is the eagles logo there?
Because the Eagles are going to win the super bowl
@Mr.SingleRider well I know that (Go Birds) but I don't know why it's on the train
@@TheCoasterCraze-13 Idk 🤷🤷
Lmao wtf
Because the steelers shouldn’t have all the coaster fun for Pennsylvania teams.
11:08 I thought Hypera had a kremer roll?
Maybe one day Orient express will come back like Zambizi Zinger did. Unfortunately I doubt that will happen, but man can dream.
4:40: Ninja’s (StLs) cousin. Both Arrow/Vekoma frankensteins.
You missed the cobra loop which was which was introduced in storm runner granted its on on storm runner
The fact that Superman at Fiesta Texas has the first 4 inversions😂
I think you forgot the Demonic Knot and the twisted horseshoe plus a few others, but I can't be sure because I skimmed through
Ive seen this on Patreon already tho 😎😎😎😎😎
Lets goooo
Questions I never asked but love to hear the answer to
You should do this for every non inverting element I think that could be a goated vid
Haha yeah that would be fun but there aren't TOO many non inverting "elements" and are way harder to quantify
Half of these I lump into the same category 😅
6:18 Almost all of them. At least Oblivion and Diving Machine G5 have no inversions at all.
The first barrel roll down drop was actually on the smiler not Medusa if you look at a PoV you will see what I mean and smiler opened in 2013
Interesting to count the ones I've ridden:
(New) Revolution
I've ridden half of Lightning Loops, but it doesn't count, since it's no longer interlocking.
Kumba
Batman the Ride (SFGAm)
Ultra Twister (after moving to Astroworld)
Montu
Goliath (SGAm)
Joker (SFDK)
Mantis (I did get to ride it as a standup)
Stealth (after it moved to Carowinds)
Superman Ultimate Flight
Rock N Roller Coaster
Yukon Striker
Outlaw Run (Storm Chaser & Iron Gwazi also have an overbank beyond 135 degrees, but for whatever stupid reason, rcdb doesn't count it on those. I do.)
very informative
Idk if this counts, but yamaha racing coaster has a 135deg top hat. It opened in 2011 and it’s practically just a mini mr freeze. Does that count as an overbanked inversion ?
I think it counts as a top hat
glad i can watch this in france
I wonder what coaster has the most combinations of these inventions, and what they are?
For example, Banshee at Kings Island has a dive loop, vertical loop, inline twist, and a boomerang pretzel knot (I think I got the names right). I’m sure there some with more.
Steel Curtain is a contender
Does the interlocking loop on lightn loops count? It is 2 separate coasters.
I would also say the round vertical loop and teardrop loop are different elements
You could definitely make the argument that they're separate but I think in the spirit of the first interlocking loops, you can't ignore these existed even if they were separate
so close to 100K
The step up under flip on RTH comes after the vertical loop in the first half, not the final inversion
Rcdb has it listed as the last inversion
video idea: the best coaster from every year (idk if this was already done yet)
there should be a distinction between a circular vertical loop and a clothoid teardrop loop as they do offer different experiences while inverted
True. Would be nice if rcdb had that distinction
What about the pretzel knot found on banshee and originally on moonsault scramble? I get it may be a bit too niche
Yeah i did limit this to 3+ so some of the 2's got left off
@AirtimeThrills ah ok makes sense!
RIP to the Super Bowl video.
Yeah same dumb teams over and over again.
Go eagles
what exactly is the difference from a sidewinder/reverse side winder and a dive loop/immelman?
The sidewinders come out at a 90 degree angle consistently. Immelmanns and dive loops usually do a full 180 and totally reverse course
Forgive me if I missed it, but what about the "bowtie" on Dragon Mountain at Marineland?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't Banshee at KI have a pretzel loop?
Thats a pretzel KNOT so a bit different
MY OPINIONS ARE ALWAYS BEST!!!!
0:42
Their has to be like at least 3 different types
I wouldn't call that thing on RTH a step-up-underflip. Its more like a double inverting dive loop
Were there any other rides that featured a bowtie other than Dragon Mountain?
Just the 1
Airtime thrills > coaster studios theme park review
Time for some of my own Inversion HOT TAKES!
- The first Barrel Roll Drop was actually on The Smiler in 2013. That also has a Batwing, even though the turn separates it on RCDB.
- Flying Dinosaur and Stary Sky Ripper have a unique element to themselves, a 540 degree roll that is a combination of a Zero G Roll and a Fly To Lie
- Storm Runner’s Cobra Loop is an Immelmann. An old RCDb reference page identifies it as Intamin’s name for an Immelmann, similar to how Arrow called a Batwing a Boomerang and how the Inverted Corkscrews are called Wing Overs
- Similarly, the Wing Overs on Batman The Ride clones are just Corkscrews
- Raven Turns going Up and Down should be distinctly classified
- Mr Freeze clones have 2 track inversions (thus 4 rider inversions), as I read (on Wikipedia) the bank angle of the Overbanked Turn is 140 degrees
- The Finnish Loop is just the stretched out Vertical Loop, as seen by Wiener Looping and Wiener Prater having one but no Dive Drop beforehand.
- More Batwings, Bowties, Norwegian Loops and Pretzel Knots should be used in Layouts
I am 100% with you on the wingovers lol
I didn't know that the Mr Freezes' overbanks were over 135 degrees. Those should all count. I wonder how many of those that rcdb has refused to count.
Air time thrills > coaster studios
It's close! I love them both, though
Barrel roll down drop is a decline not an incline, as stated in the name.
Downward incline. Lol. My bad
@@AirtimeThrills decline, no incline
I knew what you meant, and I also know you are usually good with wording. Not hating, love the content.
Loch Ness was my first coaster in 1978. It's a shame arrow went bankrupt. But B&M picked up the slack.
The end of Olentangy park is pronounced like the name Angie. Gotta represent what should’ve been my home park
I didnt stand a chance
Dragon Mountain at Marineland has/had the only bowtie inversion.
I want someone to build an actual ride element called the nick nack paddywack
The banana roll is one inversion, Steel Curtain’s is 2. I classify Steel Curtain’s as a double inverting banana roll. RCDB should as well
Thats a good point, not all banana rolls are equal
rcdb gets so many things wrong. They're still a good research source, but they are not Gospel truth.
@@OklahomaCoasterFan yeah. For example go search Alpenfury. It has 9 inversion but RCDB lists it as having 7.
Would Hulk's first inversion be considered a Barrel-Roll-Downdrop? It's classified as a Zero-G Roll on RCDB but it integrates pretty well into the following drop and it is right after the launched lift hill
I dont think so just because it doesn't invert while actively dropping
I'm here like Copperhead Strike's launch.
That's nothing to brag about
@AirtimeThrills Someone did that when I did the Do-Dodonpa launch comparison to commenting quickly
What about the Demonic Knot?
That's one of those "one of a kind" inversions just on 1 coaster
Normal People: Half Loop Half Corkscrew upside down thingie
Enthusiasts: Ah yes, the Japanese Twisted Inverted Flying Reticulated Python Roll 🤓
Rank all the wood coasters 1970-90s
Kumba's zero g roll is stil the best
3:16 The ride in front of Jolly Rancher Remix is stuck 😂
Or just loading
2:16 The corkscrew was a double inversion when it first came up. Only that makes it look like a corkscrew. And you can look at the first times it was used. It was always two. The notation moved after half corkscrews were used and nowadays corkscrew is just the term for half of the initial element.
8:38 I have issues with you just calling this a top hat. I think most referring to a top hat think of an outside top hat - which is no inversion - only the inside top hat is.
The corkscrew point makes a lot of sense, never thought of it like that. As for the top hat I think in the context of the video it's obvious it's the inverted kind but rcdb does list is as a top hat - inside
11:20 what about banshee at kings island?
I think banshee has the pretzel knot
Yeah thats a pretzel knot. Minor variation
"I think every single dive coaster starts with an Immelmann after the first drop"
Bro just forgot about the OG dive coaster
Guilty
Video Idea
Coasters that could have been saved by fans like how the coney island cyclone was saved
I kinda touched on that with my coasters that came back from the dead series
Flip flap railway circle loops abd centrifugal railway I want to experience.
wouldn't a zero g winder be the same as a step up underflip? idk anymore
I honestly can't explain how they're different lol
Uh, what about our favorite boy the hamster wheel car? Surely that's an inversion.
Yeah technically just like a freespin, no actual element but you do flip upside down randomly
1:00 Top Ten airtime parks would make a great video... maybe also top 10 airtime coasters. Steel Vengeance claims 30 seconds... but how is it counted?
I misread this as top ten anime parks.
@ that would be good too…
Ride each of the coasters with Ride Forces, add up the total Negative G (Airtime) time for each ride (which would include hangtime as airtime).
@ that’s a lot of research…
Top 10 airtime parks would be fun
The intensity of the B&M Inverted Coasters Inverted **inline twist** can not be classified as the same as the Zero G roll in a Floorless B&M type. Ive never associated the twist from Top Gun with Zero Gravity.
Different sensations but still great whip
@@AirtimeThrills Nope. I still feel like the B&M inverted's "Zero G Rolls" are too dated to be labled as such. Theyre more like barrel rolls.
You forgot the Intamin Launch coaster going into Six Flags Qiddya as well with its inverting top hat as it is slated to be the tallest inversion in the world at 232 feet above the earth so think of Mr. Freeze's top hat but COMPLETELY roided out. Top hats can also be airtime hills as well and that is what the modern top hat is. They all are topside and not bottom-side meaning they are hills and not inversions.
The spitfire tophat was included in my number even tho I didnt mention it
@@AirtimeThrills I thought you forgot about that one, my bad. You should have mentioned it as it is the tallest one that goes upside down out there or soon to be when the new Middle Eastern park opens this year. I mean the massive Falcon's Flight recently had layout completion and is probably testing right now so its only a matter of time when it opens to the public as the park itself looks like it is opening this year with the biggest F1 circuit hosting its first race in 2028. One lap is over 2 minutes and for an F1 car and the speeds they go, that is a VERY long lap. Ususally they could lap most circuits they go to in a shade over a minute depending on how long the track is.
I am still confused as to the difference in a sidewinder and Immelmann - ha.
Sidewinder comes out at a 90 degree angle while the immelmann usually does the full 180. Valravn is a bit different but you can really see this on Montu and Alpengeist for example
Anyone else notice the mistake at 5:50?
Oh no what is it
it's the section on dive loops and the text above Ultra Twister at 5:50 refers to it as the "first heartline roll"
When Will he run out of video ideas?!
Hopefully never but I fear the day
@@AirtimeThrills its a nice break from all of the other generic videos. + daily uploads
why do you guys think side ways is upside down
No max force in its feels right now.
