    Tim here from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Became a fan of the Rays since I went to my first baseball game at the Trop on holiday with my family as an 8 year old in 2006. We were spotted in the crowd and got invited to an executive lounge during the game where we got all kinds of cool merch. Awesome memory!
    Replying to the question in the previous mailbag episode whether I would still root for the Rays is they were to play in another city? For me it would depend on the composition of the lineup. If a change of city would mean we would have a totally new team as well, it would not make sense for me to follow anymore. If we can still keep most of our core and new talent (the Yandi, B-lowe, Caminero of today) then it would be a totally different story and I would definitely still be a loyal fan.
    What do you think?
    Cheers

    I've always found Zac as a great guy & one of the best Rays related follows. I wish that the circumstances that brought him to the show were different, podcast. However, I enjoyed the talk. The YES vote turned back later today. It's a bad show. It's just no bueno. In fact, it's pretty malo. Anyway, keeping the faith lit still. It isn't over till it's really over. Rays Up... Tampa Bay... 🤞 It stays that way.

    Rays President Brian Auld doesn’t see the team leaving Tampa Bay even though it appears their future in St. Petersburg hangs in the balance.
    “We want to stay in Tampa Bay. It has been our goal from day one. It continues to be our goal,” Auld said.

    Tampa is likely more concerned with making sure that the Bucs are taken care of before they worry about a team from a different city and different county. Raymond James stadium is now 26 years old and on top of the Bucs it hosts a ton of big concerts year around.

    The fact this dude said he would be a fan of a new team without even thinking about it shows you exactly why baseball in Tampa Bay isn’t serious

    I believe MLB has a $300 million charge for a team to re-locate, but sometimes they have waived that.

    The lease extends until 2027 or 2028 because the term in the lease states that the city of st. pete has to provide a place for the team to play so if the city of SP were able to fix the roof by next year the Rays would get that year back. Also, not a fan of the gaslighting by Zac here of Rays fans that he doesn't understand why people can't make the drive... not everyone can financially do that, it's not just about the distance. Not everyone can afford the gas, parking, food, etc. It's not just the traffic that's an obstacle. Also, the city of Tampa made a very good team for the time to the Rays with the Ybor deal. Stu was greedy and still had eyes on Montreal at the time so anything short of Tampa not paying for half the stadium, he was going to turn down. He signed this St. Pete deal because he and the city of St. Pete were out of options.

    Why cant the rays with the help of mlb get the rays to buy steinbrenner field? It costs the yankees 30 million to build and it’s 30 years old . Your telling me if the rays offered the yankees 500 million they wouldnt sell it? It’s still a very functional stadium. The rays woukd simply in time need to expand it to about 25 k. Mlb can also sweeten the pot for the Yankees helping by giving them an all star game over the next 3 years. The yankees would pocket 400 million and build s new facility for 100 million

      I've been saying this for years... trade locations with the yankees and let them do spring training and have a minor league team in St. Pete. That makes way more sense for that area and population size.

    • @acebragg5559
      @acebragg5559 2 часа назад

      Why would they do that? They're not going to play 81 games outside. You'd end up not using anything from the current stadium to build a stadium with a roof. On top of that, there's nothing to do near the park unless strip clubs are your thing. Current baseball stadiums are built in neighborhoods with things to do within walking distance.

      @@acebragg5559 They could build a new stadium on that site a few years down the road... the bucs play across the street and have no problem getting attendance but I guess there's only strip clubs near there according to you... lets forget the airport, neighborhoods, mall, college, and close proximity to the interstate, veterans expwy, and downtown...

    • @acebragg5559

      @@codyrobins19 I live 20 minutes from there. There's nothing to do there that's within walking distance. Look at Petco, Truist, Target Field, etc. Those are all built either in downtown areas where there are shops, restaurants & bars within walking distance or they've built all those things around the stadium (Truist). There's ZERO open land around that area for those things and even if you built the stadium on the current Steinbrenner site you better hope MLB and the NFL doesn't schedule Tampa home games on the same day because you won't be able to park everyone.
