- This is my minimal iPad setup to make the iPad Pro even more productive. In this custom iOS icon design tutorial, I'll show you how to install custom icons & productive shortcuts in iOS 14 - iOS 14.4 with Shortcuts or the Iconboard App, plus how to access files and folders directly from your home-screen!

12.9 every time for me. Still feels small compared to a computer, but so much better for split screen workflow and video editing.

See comments below. It’s a iOS 14 feature to hold it on home screen - I use widgetsmith now to do similar.

the app iconboard is not working when i put app store as a icon it opens up then opens up another screen when i tried doing the shortcut way it still didnt work since the pop-up was coming everytime even tho i blocked it

Hi, love your channel. I really like the Nox icon set but nowhere to be found. The price off the macstories set is f... expensive in comparasion to the value you can get from a premium app for this amount. Any other icon sets that you advise?
Yeah - they discontinued it I’m afraid. MacStories is a fair bit - personally thou I’ve really valued them and like them - would say it helps they are part of this video making stuff thou! I’m designing a minimal set with a designer right now thou for iPad/IPhone/Notion! We’ll be releasing in December if all goes to plan - working out pricing at moment so it supports us both - let’s see :)
Hey Simon I had a quick question regarding the set up. I noticed the icons don’t give you any notification alerts like a normal app would, is there any way to configure this? For example if I had unread emails, it wouldn’t display the number next to it.
Yes, I think you can edit what happens in settings under notifications. But more than that, many of my icons are actually shortcut bookmarks I created for the custom look. Thanks S

I was wondering how I can get the time and date at the top of the widgets like you have on your home screen. At the time of filming this, were you on iOS 14? I can't seem to figure out how to get that time and date on my ipad pro, which is on iOS 15. Do you know if this is possible? Yes, you might need to use a widget app like widgetsmith or Another that helps you create empty widgets or designs to shape it. I’ll be releasing a big new video on home screen design for iOS and iPadOS 16 in a few weeks anyways! :)

The Install with Profiles feature didnt work on iOS 15 or newer anymore, what a pity of great app and now i just go back to creating shortcut one by one :-)

when change the icons and click on the app there is other overlay opening before the real apps starts. in the video there is none. how can i directly open the app? (using ipad air 5)
It maybe that the shortcut blocker has stopped working - search for videos on blocking shortcut popups for iOS 16 to see the solution. :)
i have that too, i think what they mean is that upon pressing the app, there is a black screen, and then it opens the app. i’m assuming because it’s opening the bookmark which is empty, and then is directed to the app itself. any fix?

It’s slightly different since the ipadOS15 update but still possible - I use widgetsmith to do it: with a blank / black widget to create the organisation. New video coming on icon design for iPad / iPhone in December :)

Digital clock on the left side of the homescreen? If so, I was looking for that as well-> Homescreen & Dock settings, but with my current ios, the feature is not there “Keep Today View on Homescreen”

Hi! Yeah - this was my screen from iOS 14.9 with a pinned today view. I suggest in iOS 15 using widgetsmith to insert large blank or simple visual and clock widgets to recreate this on the home screen. Thanks for watching! :)
help me pls,in the settings in “home and dock” I don’t have this option to do the widgets in the left I have iPad Air 4 :(
This is now not an option in iOS 15 & 16 - BUT you have more flexibility to create a similar layout using widgets. I recommend widgetsmith for spacers / options

These icons are by Mac Stories so I can’t just upload them myself. But currently developing my own packs to use across devices and in Notion :)

Notion widgets just display the design of the page you link them to. So just update the cover (and add a custom icon if you want to see it) on Notion and then link to the page.

That was the 14.9 hold on home screen view of the widgets board - now I think using widgetsmith is best option for a similar thing.
"Due to system policy, installation with Profile is an old method and is not recommended for iOS 14.5 or newer." What iconboard is showing me. I'm new to apple products. Any suggestions?
Nevermind. Followed through on this method and it detoured into Shortcuts app before opening the correct app. Not as worth it for me. :) Found out how to delete the profile pretty quickly, so that's already undone on my end :)
Good good - I think whilst longer winded, it's fine to do a few of them manually using the Shortcut process I've explained in my custom icons video for iphones :)

Hi - Very possible it's no longer available - But ps. I will be releasing a pack of my own minimal icons for later in the year. Re setting it up: I create my icons using the shortcuts app as bookmarks so - no - no need to be jail broken. Thanks for watching.

This is an older iOS setup - try using widgetsmith or even my iOS icon pack with custom widgy widgets in the description! :)
How do we add notion page widget on iPad ?
Install Notion app, go to widgets as you normally would and you’ll fine Notion there by searching. :)
How do you get the clock widget on top?
Well this used to be the side widget organisation on ipad - now I use Widgetsmith and a couple of spacers from the same app. cheers. New custom ipad design video coming start of 2023 so watch this space!

I seem to be getting it occasionally on the iPad, not my phone - might be a need to turn off shortcuts notifications in settings after you have left it charging with wifi over night. Seems to be a thing.

It’s part of the keep on home screen layout in iOS 14. Now I’ve moved to iOS 15 I’m using widgetsmith to do very similar. 👍

clicking a shortcut is the same as clickin the app's icon .. why use the shortcut?

Good solution until the day when iOS finally allows for custom icon packs.
