    How’d you rate the X6700H vs. NAD T778? Which one would you choose for both stereo music, movies and games?

    I believe you have run Xbox or playstation directly to the TV (hdmi) and then eARC back to the receiver, i think that is the "temp" fix.
    i hope this helps! heres the info directly:
    Some new gaming source devices that support 4K/120Hz output may not work fully with Denon 8K AVRs. You may discover this incompatibility issue due to a HDMI chipset mismatch between the devices. When the affected system is connected to the AVR via 8K HDMI input and set to output at 4K/120Hz, and the AVR’s 4K Signal Format option is set to “8K Enhanced,” you may not see the system’s source video on their display, and may not hear the system’s source audio processed through the AVR. This problem is only present when a display that supports 4K/120Hz is used.
    ---You can connect the system to the display directly via HDMI and use the display’s ARC/eARC functionality to feed the native audio back to the AVR using the connected HDMI cable between the AVR and display. This will allow users to decode the native audio format sent from the source. With this method, the display’s CEC/ARC option must be enabled as well as the AVR’s HDMI Control and/or the AVR’s ARC option. In the AVR, this option is located within the GUI under “Video - HDMI Setup.”
    --Another workaround is to leave or change the source’s video output to 4K/60Hz instead of 4K/120Hz until a permanent solution is available. This will ensure reliable communication between the source, the AVR and the display. The source’s default is set to output at 4K/60Hz, so if no change was initiated out of the box, then nothing further needs to be done

    I have a Denon from about 2 or 3 years ago and it had some weird bugs right out of the box. The video signal would completely go away after 10 minutes or so when connected to the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4. If I re-selected the input via the remote, it would come back on and stay on until the AVR was powered off. All cables were 18.5 GBPS. This would happen every single time the AVR was powered up without fail. No, I couldn't do a workaround like switching inputs around right after I powered it up. It NEEDED to drop out once before it was happy. Made me despise the janky build quality of Denon. Eventually a Denon tech gave me a firmware upgrade to apply with USB (the network firmwares didn't fix the issue). His USB firmware did fix my video dropout issue. However now the network features of the AVR no longer work at all. I give up.

      I have the same issue with my brand new x4700!

    • @_Volt_Ron_
      @_Volt_Ron_ 4 года назад +2

      I got the x6700. There have been a few quirky things. I didn't have the issue you had when using the XBOX/PS4. I use a PS4. There was an annoying issue with my setup; Apple TV 4K/PS4 PRO connected to Denon then to my LG CX, where depedning on what was turned on first would sometimes cause this annoying flashing of the volume level and losing/regaining a signal. Shutting everything off, then back on again usually resolved it. But the last time it happened I did a factory reset of my LG CX. And that seemed to fix it. I later read that the volume flashing/signal flashing can be caused by the LG CX CEC's capability. That's where the TV works through HDMI to automatically switch to whatever device you are using. With it off, you have to manually switch it between APPLE TV/PS4/LG. So this issue appears to due to the LG CX that was connected, not the Denon.
      The HDMI cable tester of the unit does not reliably work. And the results it gives; sometimes the cable passes and sometimes it doesn't make it unusable.
      Despite those quirks, it seems to work fine otherwise.

    Hi Shane. Another great review. I have a question. I have a dedicated room aprox 24 x 11.5 ft . I feel I would really benefit in getting 6 Atmos speakers. I am considering buying the Denon 8500 which will provide that but I could also go with the 6700 but purchase a two channel amp to give me the thirteen channels. From a price perspective the 8500 might be the way to go for 1000 dollars more. I would spend that on another outboard amp anyways with the 6700. Plus I can also see myself going with the JVC nx7 in the future so I don’t think 8 k will be a big deal in the next 4 to 5 years anyways. I would love to get your thoughts. Plus sound wise I’m assuming the 8500 will deliver more juice. Please help. Love your channel. It’s first rate.

    Hey Shane, whats the closest I can get to the bright clear signals of good old Integra, the new Integra DRX was disappointing with Accueq, should do manual eq band by band but surround sounds weak in them something has changed they feel much lighter as well?
    What is the next best I can safely try Denon, NAD (Anthem was neutral, Marantz was too warm for me, not my sound type). Or should it be processor route? I want to maintain that sparkle at high ends due to the choice of music I listen to, else it cuts off those frequencies and it almost sounds artificial - Any hints would be much appreciated, since you had more chance and gear experience:) - Thanks

    The HMDI 2.1 chip from Panasonic used by Denon, Marantz, and others has a hardware fault. 4k/120Hz will not function. Recalls, returns, and replacements might be the only way for the entire 2020 lineup. It CANNOT be fixed via a software update.

    Since my Denon 4400 died a few weeks ago right now I’m searching for a good 9 or 11 receiver and the best thing is that last year models are now at a good price. I’m having a tough decision between the 6500 or 6700. I know the 6700 have DTS X Pro so I could have front wides or a third pair of Atmos speakers, but the recent price drop of the 6500H to $1599 is hard to pass. Does anyone had the 6500 and recently upgraded to the 6700. I would like to know if there are some sound differences? For those wanting to delay upgrading their AVR + in wall cabling for eArc for next gen consoles but want to upgrade their TV first; Consider upgrade path: Console > Powered HDMI 2.1 @ 40Gbps HDMI 2.1 repeater to two outputs: Upgraded 4k/120Hz TV/Monitor & AVR. Alternative is just an adhoc 1080p/1440p/4K @ 120hz+ monitor. HDMI 2.1-to-DP 1.4 converters potentially may become an option in the future as well, best option is to wait until the titles you want take advantage of the higher refresh rates. If SFVI is 4K@120Hz/1440p@120Hz this will be my upgrade path.

      I'm not sure I fully understand the question. However, with either the 6700H or 4700H, you'll gain better sound going with external amps. If you are comparing the 6700H and using internal amplifications vs using 4700H with external amplifications, then go with the 4700H. The internal amp difference between the two is insignificant. Main difference with the 6700H is gaining two more channels to be at DTSx-PRO level. That's it!

    Really disappointing. Both Denon and Marantz only offer a SINGLE "8k" input! What people don't understand is that this "8k" input is ALSO what you will need for 4k@120hz. Why is this important? Because both Sony and Xbox are releasing consoles next month that support this format! And some TV's, like Samsung, only offer a single HDMI 2.1 port that will work! (Samsung also puts the HDMI 2.1 port on port 4, but ARC is on port 3...stupid!) Is it too much to ask for 3 ports on an AVR of this price that will support the highest quality signal available? I mean, gamers would typically have a PC, an Xbox AND a PS5. Yamaha is the only company offering 3 HDMI 2.1 ports this year. Up your game, Denon!

    • @johnbancroft5242
      @johnbancroft5242 2 года назад +1

      Just plug your Consoles in to the 8K or 4K 120Hz tv, then use the Earc to send the sound to the Receiver. Most TV's will upscale internally as well. I have the Denon x6700H. plus a Powerful workstation I built with an Nvidia 3090 GPU, so will play games in 8K when I have some free time.

    Why would you not test Aduyssey and their "janky" app if you are evaluating the AVR - why not use what the AVR brings to the table. Even if I don't choose to use Audyssey I still let it run to calibrate my speaker distances, and subwoofer distances. Physical distance is NOT correct for subwoofers, (and sometimes not with speakers) so by using manual distances you have done your experience a disservice.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  3 года назад

      That's your opinion of course. Thanks for sharing it.

    • @jvonengeln
      @jvonengeln 3 года назад +1

      @@therealshanelee It's not just unsubstantiated opinion. It's my experience, from coming up on two decades of using audyssey, and calibrating many systems and reviewing calibration afterwards with my omnimic - my own system and dozens of others. Not setting distances correctly can affect phase and crossover settings to the detriment of the entire experience. Physical distance is not directly tied to correct impulse response timings when signal is going through external amplifiers, and EQ (such as on active subwoofers, or amplified speakers). On second watch I see you did run Audyssey. Running Audyssey and turning it off is fine, because you are using the correct distances (timing) for your speakers and subs. You don't have to like how Audyssey EQ's, but it traditionally does very well on setting channel distances, so that part of it is worth running - even if you turn off Audyssey afterwards.
      I thought originally you had just manually set all the distances.

And before asking me how many Auro 3D movies are out there keep in mind that the most interesting thing about this technology is the 3D auromatic. For upscaling the old 5.1/7.1 DTS HD MASTER/Dolby trueHD the Auro 3D upscaller is much more advanced than both DTS and Dolby upmixers.
