How To Fix "Access Denied" Error In Command Prompt

In this video is show you how to fix the Access Denied error while executing commands through command prompt. This occurs because the user does not have permission on the cmd.exe file to allow changes to be made. Another problem we face is UAC (User access control) is turned on by default, which prevents the user from making changes that could harm a system. These occur even though you are running an administrator account.

Now onto the fix
1) we are going to turn off UAC. start, control panel, search bar at top right, type uac, and its the first option. click on it and drag the bar all the way to the bottom so it is off.
2)were going to change the owner of the file as you have to be the owner to make changes to permissions. to do this we are going to hold the start button (on your keyboard+r) and type c:\windows\system32 in the run dialog box. When system32 folder opens, type cmd and click the cmd.exe file at the top. now right click, properties, security, advanced, and at the top where it displays owner, click change and type in your username, and click Ok.
3)Next were going to set the permissions to allow you to make changes. right click cmd.exe again and click properties, security, edit, add (your username). Click full control box and click apply.
4) finally exit out of the cmd properties, right click the cmd.exe file and click run as administrator. In your command prompt, type you command that wasnt working originally, and

Wondering if you can help...I am trying to remove daugava malware...have managed to remove it twice in the past manually from the cmd line but this time it has three .exe files that give me the "Access is denied" message when I try to del them. I have also already manually deleted the relevant registry files. I already have UAC turned off. Any suggestions?
This is brilliant. It never occurred to me (and maybe it should've) that permission to cmd.exe was the issue. It didn't work for me exactly as in the video as I couldn't add users even after changing the owner. So, I simply copied cmd.exe to another folder and, as it was me who pasted, the new copy already had me as the owner and as a user with full control.I was able to delete some malware and get my PC back - yeh!!, thanks Nik.

urgent. cant' unhide folders hide by lock-a-folder software because hidden folders are not on the list. when I type D://attrib -r -h -s "new folder" it say access denied. please help.

Whenever you click on anything with a shield logo/icon, it asks for a password; the password that I am looking for.
A lot of people are having the issue of "Enter Administrator Password to Continue". If you get that message it means either you or a previous owner or someone set a password on the Admin account. By default that shouldn't come up like in the demonstration. Think real hard and try to remember the password, or you can try to reset the admin password using third party software like "PC LOGIN NOW", it's a bootable program that allows you to update the admin password from outside the OS. As far as I know it will work, as long as you can access the master directory containing system files. It's not always c:\windows\system32. What ever the drive is for your tablet

Yes, exe is just the file extension, you can toggle this on and off by going to organization>view and folder options>folder options>show extensions of known file types

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I thought this would fix the access denied errors I get since I upgraded to Windows 10. I can't get into my library files. I don't believe I wasted ALL THIS TIME, over an hour, taking detailed notes! ONLY to find out it has NOTHING TO DO with my problem. This came up on automatically right after a video about fixing my problem, except that one didn't work. I was hoping this one would...I have severe HDD errors and need to backup NOW so I can get some sleep before my 5 year old wakes up,,,,can't backup with no access. Dammit, off I go to hopefully find a solution that WORKS

+nicole leong If you are an admin, you can just run cmd as an Administrator. Right-click the Windows logo on your taskbar, select "Command Prompt (Admin)" and follow the steps in his video for resetting the Administrator password from about the 7 minute mark.
Hey look, I'll be honest. Just RIGHT click the start tab bottom left corner, then choose 'command prompt (admin)'. or find cmd.exe in system32 Right click & just run as administrator. Done.
Dude the admins jn schools would be smart enough to ask you to type a password
Hopefully this will somehow help resolve the inability to remove the windows.old folder tree! Trying to wipe that junk is where I get the access denied error.

SkengMan GetBun are you on an Admin or Guest account? You will need administrative privileges

you can uninstall program yeova virus ??
you can access files that tend to hide without cmd or turning anything off.
go to this PC
find your user file and open it
find the file labeled local and open it
find yeova open it and drag all files within directly to the recycle bin
empty the recycle bin then restart your computer.
once the virus is gone you should notice an improvement in the performance of that computer.
as an added bonus this is also where you may find residual files of deleted programs as well. Just make sure not to delete anything without knowing what it is. :)

+iKeneki :D "Nik" is his user name on his computer. You'd have to enter in YOUR user name that you log into your computer with. But don't bother, setting the permissions really doesn't work/do anything to help. He runs it as an Administrator, not "Nik" when he does his commands that work.
