AMAZING Tiny Electric CAR Built on a Wheelchair!: Kenguru, world’s first drive-from-wheelchair electric car!
It is true that mobility vehicles designed for wheelchair access exist, and transportation is possible for people in wheelchairs - but it is certainly not easy. The process of climbing out of a manual wheelchair and into a modified vehicle (and then collapsing the chair) takes considerable time and puts substantial strain on a person’s shoulders.
Kenguru has been built from the ground up for people in wheelchairs. It is a small nimble electric vehicle - one designed specifically for quick, easy access by, and driving from, a wheelchair. Its makers claim it is the world’s first drive-from-wheelchair electric car.
Initially developed in Hungary, the Kenguru is now hand built in Texas in the US. The car’s design is at least six years old. Stacy Zoern, an attorney in Austin, has never walked due to a neuromuscular condition, has always used a wheelchair and was doing some online research on transportation about six years ago. That’s when she stumbled across Kenguru, a Budapest-based company advertising small electric vehicles that allowed wheelchair users to enter through a back hatch and drive - all while never getting out of the chair. The entire rear of the vehicle is a hatch that can be raised, allowing a wheelchair passenger to roll in using a built-in ramp. Stacy then set up Community Cars which now manufactures Kengurus in Pflugerville.
The Kenguru has only a single door to the rear of the vehicle for direct wheelchair access. It’s opened by remote control. Inside the driver is nestled in a 350-kg (772-lb) fibreglass cocoon 2125 mm (83.6 in) long, 1620 mm (63.8 in) wide and 1525 m (60 in) tall. That’s extremely compact. Empty weight with the batteries increases to 550 kg (1200 lb).
The batteries power two 2-kW motors located on the rear axle. Kenguru offers a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28 mph), a range of between 70 and 110 km (43 and 68 miles) and a climbing ability limited to 20-percent gradients - perfect for short inner-city trips. Motorcycle-style handlebars provide steering, though a joystick-controlled version is currently in development.
Community Cars says the Kenguru will be price-tagged at about $25,000. However, buyers will qualify for the federal “green incentive,” and some will also qualify for the “vocational rehabilitation incentive,” if they use their Kenguru for transportation to and from a job. Those incentives, according to Zoern, can drop the price “in some cases [down to] 20,000, in some cases [to] zero.”

You need to make this car so it can go on a freeway at 50 miles per hour. plus have room for two bags of groceries or other bags of stuff. People in wheelchairs do go outside of their city and also shop. but there is no room for anything else just your wheelchair. and I did not see a radio or CD player in the car.

I’d almost kill to be able to own one of these small vehicles, but alas they’re illegal in Australia. I’m stuck using an electric scooter that can’t be used in the rain. It’s already cost me over a thousand dollars in repairs caused by moisture damaging the electrics!

It saddens me to see who overpriced the options for disabled people exactly are made to be.
This is nothing more than a 2000 dollar slow moving electric car the same as what people not in wheelchairs can purchase.
I see a company in texas cashing in on the suffering of others, and finding ways to milk the tax payer to make the small business owner live a lavish life, cashing in off the suffering of others.

Quads and paraplegic can still drive normal cars.. this is a horrible idea and no one who is disabled wants to be in a car that basically screams "hey im cripple and here's my lil cripple car to match".. smh

Despite being in a wheelchair, I drove an accident-free car for 35 years. But now so many tendons have torn in my shoulders that I can no longer transfer into a car. I can't go everywhere with my wheelchair alone. That's where a vehicle like that comes in handy.
You don't have to infer others from you ;-)

@@cappodull6264 ... sorry to hear, however i stand on(no pun intended) on my statement.. This car isn't safe for the road and an accident will either be your demise or further injury. Im insulted that "this" is the best they can do for us.. or people that are wheelchair users. If you cool with it? Go by it.. but ill never be caught in some death trap while some guy gets rich off selling a lunchbox with wheels.. plus its ugly and corny looking.. being cripple doesn't mean you gotta drive a clown car. Smh.. as far as your shoulders? I'm 44, and what has saved me is keeping under 175 lbs.. im 6'1... its extremely hard to keep off weight as a paraplegic so I suggest being ultra strict with your diet. Arms weren't designed to constantly lift your body weight, thats what legs are for.. so I've learned to live accordingly and not over stress my arms or shoulders. B safe bro and please research safety regulations and accident thresholds on motor vehicles structure and also if this death trap even had extensive testing to ensure its safe upon impacts.. im an engineer, I can tell its flawed just by looking at it. Remember LOW WEIGHT AND DIET IS IMPORTANT FOR PERSERVING UPPER EXTREMITIES... take care

@@georgecurtis6463 if you can propell a wheelchair you can put it in a car.. im not speaking of "other disabled types" im speaking of the particular disability this product was designed for.. people who are wheelchair bound.. and if your not bound to an electronic chair, then someone who pushes themselves forward can also lift a chair over their heads or across their bodies to place it in a vehicle. I SIMPLY DONT AGREE WITH YOUR SENTIMENTS BRO.. the person in the video CLEARLY does have that capability thats why they developed the car to make it "easier" to achieve. The only way I'd use this is on a college campus or similar.. BUT THIS ISNT SAFE FOR PUBLIC RODES.. ITS NOT OUT BECAUSE OF SAFTEY AND REGULATIONS NEEDWD FOR VEHICLES... but if it's for you, have at it.. I'll stick to my regulated vehicle thank you and good day sir

@@secondaccounte1209 well, since my situation is not clear to you I will not take what you say as you intended. Along with my paraplegia I had other injuries that do prevent me to as you say, easily transfer. I do drive my vehicle but need a little help getting in and out. That is my main issue.
