    I'm black American, checking out videos about making art in Africa. You're right about how trashy American culture is. It's poisoning not only ruining black comics (which is a shame because black art has incredible hidden potential), but its corrupting the minds of those who read anything influenced by trash. It's scary how many brainwashed artists there are. And it's too bad, so many are extremely talented and ambitious. But their heads are messed up.
    If we had more of us drawing pure gold, there would probably be more readers. Books are, after all, learning material, and not just entertainment. I agree with your talking points. The audience just isn't there for us like that, not even in America. Our value systems are being tampered with. We can't even afford real gold, nevermind intellectual artistry...

    Oof! This was a bit much to watch, but I can appreciate some of your points even though I feel a lot of them come from your unique upbringing and general industry growing pains. Like you pointed out, the "industry" is barely developed enough to be called such, but it has value as a beacon. I've been close enough to our local Con (Zimbabwe) to see kids from the kind of environments you described grow into working freelance Pros even though they couldn't afford to be consumers as kids. It's not a lot of them, but as they grow as artists telling other people's stories, they will eventually get to the point where they can tell their own authentic stories. And as more generations get exposed through the cons (pun intended, for those who know!) and the few unicorns that actually manage to publish, African comics will eventually gain critical mass and thrive. For now, being prophets in foreign lands/markets telling stories of Wakanda will have to be a start.

    Bro, I'm a Black American that grew up reading comics. Comics were read by most of my friends. They were not considered a luxury because they were so affordable. Only a dollar each. You mentioned that in South Africa, the people are struggling to make ends meet, so they don't have the money for comics. Yet then you go on to say that they rather spend that money on alcohol. Well, that's a contradiction. If they have money for alcohol and Jordan's, and other forms of entertainment, then they have money for comics. Even in South Africa, comics are not a luxury. The real problem is the quality of the story. If the story and the characters are compelling enough, the people will support it. The people support the American rappers because they are compelling characters that make entertaining music. The same formula can be applied to comics. The Boondocks and Brotherman are two titles that do not conform to stereotypes. They both were successful. As for the need for principles and standards to guide the creative process, just follow universal principles. Marvel Comics principles are universal. Everyone all over the planet can relate to Good vs. Evil, heroism, hard work, embracing integrity in middle of chaos and corruption. Don't use characters that are based on Japanese Manga or American Marvel style heroes. Create characters born out of South African History. Check out Black Sands entertainment here on RUclips. What would Shaka Zulu look like as a Hero fighting against Colonialism? Those are the types of characters that would capture the imagination and support of African Youth. Build characters that are needed by African Youth. Make Nelson Mandela into a crime fighting Super Hero.

      I appreciate ur comment bro but I live here. I know these niggas better than u. And u right, how do they have cash for booze but not comics? That's the ultimate question nobody here can answer. But wherever they get it from, booze and fashion while living in a hut is their culture. To be intelligent or a geek here is to go against tribal norms. This is why the whole place is in poverty. They burn libraries and schools the moment they get angry then wonder why they can't prosper. They burn their own electrical substation when government doesn't supply it and cry they're in the dark. The only knowledge respected is knowledge from thugs and witch doctors. Don't defend a group u have never met or lived with, dude.

      I'm not defending the idiocy. I'm asking you to focus on those that ARE interested in your ideas. You should study Marketing. Most people don't understand what marketing really is. Most think that it's the same as advertising or sales. It's not. Marketing is what truly drives business. Marketing is the ability to find those people that are most likely to buy your product and services. Never try to sale to the general public. Only focus on those that buy comics.

      Africans and African Americans do like to read. Proof of this can be found in the comments section of social media platforms. They read all about their favorite rappers. The information has to be something that they are interested In and connects with. They would read comics if the characters and the story was compelling enough. Comics are a perfect medium for those with short attention spans. It's only a few pages and has great visuals. Unlike a novel. A comic can be to a book what RUclips is to a full length feature film. The problem isn't comics, or people not liking to read. The problem is with the imagination or the lack there of, of the creators.

    In fact, the elite want us to work in fields in which there is no money at all. The elite know how to distract us with a lot of useless things. While we should normally concentrate our efforts in industry and commodity trading (These are the most rewarding sectors in Africa but only whites people, Chinese and Indians control that world in our own lands).
    In my opinion, we should create more cartoons and less comics, because everyone is video but no one is book/comic no more. Cartoons is not expensive to create when you make them short and rig your characters. Comic will just make you spend your time for free.

      I'm not discounting the challenges you face. I believe you 100%. My point is that, the locals are not your only audience. Also, making it in The Comic Book industry is difficult even here in the USA. You absolutely should lock down a stable source of employment and build your interest in comics on the side. We have to do that here in the USA. But there has never been a better time than now to reach beyond your local situation. The infrastructure didn't exist in the past. Japanese Manga has exploded and gone global because of the internet. The same can be true of African Comics, if the quality is there. It costs next to nothing to produce. It can be sold as a digital download. You could sell them to a global audience for $1.99 U.S. I buy ebooks all of the time. In fact I prefer buying comics in digital form because of the ability to zoom in on the images. True collectors want the actual book. That's expensive to produce. But ebooks are within the reach of anyone with a computer and internet connection.

    There shouldn't be a segregated African comics industry. Comics is a global industry. You can make a comic hero with any ethnicity. Spawn is black but his creator is white Canadian. Blade and Black Panther are black but their creators are white American. Afro Samurai is black but his creator is Japanese. American comic publishers often hire Japanese artists, like Sana Takeda, Peach Momoko, and Yoshitaka Amano. Black INSECURITY and the pride it creates causes comickers of the African diaspora to limit themselves, which is why no one buys their books. Readers want good art and a good story, not a lecture. The Boondocks and Static were so popular because they're *AMERICAN COMICS* . They just so happen to be made by black people and have black heroes.

Even popular comic book industries started of smell and unknown and then slowly grew into massize industries which are still popular to this day. What l am trying to say is you can't expect AFRICAN COMIC BOOKS TO BE KNOWN ABOUT INSTANTLY it takes time. Time to leave the indoors life and go educate yourself about black culture. If you are not interested in learning about black people then shut up about it coz you are now clearly ranting about something you know very little about. Focus on art and leave politics alone. You ruined what could have been some valid points with your afrophobic rant, hatred towards other artists and your twisted ignorant political views. And stop thinking that staying indoors expanded your mind. You might have spent a lot of time thinking you are expanding your knowledge but your views on the black community and politics are very shallow and come from an understandably very narrowminded perspective. With no major publishing houses doing comics locally it will always be a struggling indie scene. But that's not saying the scene isnt thriving in that regard. In the last 20 years the amount of SA comics and people doing it has boomed.

    I'm sorry for what you have experienced in this young African comic industry. I think you should reinvent yourself through a spiritual experience with prayers. Let go of the past. You have a gift that you've been working on for years. I think you should unlearn some things and reinvent yourself. You are African, make your works more African. There's a text from the Bible that says eat honey because it is good, the honey comb that is sweet to your taste so shall the knowledge of wisdom be to you who has found it and there shall be a reward and your expectations will happen. I've been into comic drawing for years as a hobby... I noticed that people enjoy my stories but told me I should work on my drawings. The comic characters I draw look like Africans not foreigners. But they want it to look foreign.. maybe like manga. The question i ask myself is why do my drawings have to look foreign before it can be fully appreciated? Anyway, Im a lecturer in a university in Nigeria. But I still want to go into the comic industry. Hopefully, maybe we can work together if you are interested.

    I have one issue about everything that you are saying.
    Do not call African countries 3rd world countries. Go to villages, they have no worries, about food, shelter or anything. Having TVs, phones and all the like is such a western idea of well being. How can you see strong and well fed people and call them poor? And black people know how to get what they want wether it be land, Iphones, houses or whatsoever. So if the comic is good it will be bought, you can be sure of that. If news papers and magazines are bought then comic books can also be bought here.
    God bless you and have a fruitful and blossoming carrier.

    • @muzisensei3493
      @muzisensei3493  Год назад

      I've been in those villages, it sucks. There is no joy, only anguish. No sense of safety because they're exposed to the elements. Forever just fighting to stay alive. That's not life, it's savagery. Not to mention the nightmarish witchcraft practices that bring terror to all. Maybe try going there yourself next time instead of relying on a few photos u saw. They aren't strong or well-fed, they have poor nutrition. That's why 98% of blacks have poor cognitive abilities, they can't think straight cause they have bad brain development from the bad food they eat. That's why they can't build anything.
