His observation at 5:40 highlights a developing problem in the industry. In a nutshell Caterpillar has developed smarter machines for dumber operators. However, as great as this technology is it is expanding the root cause of the problem, not correcting it. Grade Assist technology, in my opinion, is a failure if investment in properly training young operators to operate outside of the specification diminishes. I see evidence of that every day. Young operators who start out on Grade Assist technology initially develop a false sense of self-worth and capability.
I hear what your saying. That same problem is in a lot of industry. Aiming for cheaper labour cost. Also creating higher technical position for repairs. unfortunately everyone still has to eat.
In my country anyone can operate an excevator as long as you know what you are doing i guess. But some years ago they started having vocational school educations surrounding earth moving and such
I love the idea of a Cat but the price is ridicules in NZ. I kinda get the feeling that they are not interested in smaller operators here. Brought a Volvo 220 and absolutely love it. Transdeisel have gone out of their way to be helpful. At this rate everything will be Volvo as it comes up for replacement.
