Great recipe! Thank you Kosmo! I did them with Jim Beam and cooked reverse sear method on the Weber with a Slow N Sear. The whole family devoured them. It was a great change of pace and I will absolutely be doing these again. For all those belly achers saying they only do S&P then why even watch the video?! Hating just to hate. Ha Ha. Hey... so I've tried this with both Jack and Makers... BY FAR! -- the Jack version was a thousand times better! There's something about the charcoal drip Jack does that adds that extra something to the final flavor of the steak. I recommend Jack Daniels!
I like your logic. I find Jack rather harsh too, which is why it's "sippin' whiskey" not drinking whiskey, although keeping it in the freezer makes it more pleasant! 😁
@@memory_null It really is quite lovely with beautiful nose and a sharp bite at the end. I prefer it neat, with a glass of ice water and lemon wedge. You don't want to sully good whiskey.
Man, at 55-60 per bottle, you're into the territory of some really good single barrel bourbons like Blanton's or Four Roses Single Barrel...or something like Old Forester 1920. Angel's Envy is good, but it's a fake bourbon and way too expensive.
Yeah, Buddy. Y'all convinced this ol' gearjammer that ol' dawgs can learn new tricks. I got a freezer fulla steaks and all kinds of time to do this. The ol' Queen of Denial gonna be dinin' fine, thanks to what y'all just taught me here. I'm gonna use some Saskatchewan Blackened Rub on it, just for good measure. Shifty, out.
quarantine turning Americans into home chefs....not a bad trade off. I will try this with some Rum and rum + homemade BBQ sauce. 4 different steaks. 1-jack,1-Makers ,1-rum mix and 1-rum plus bbq sauce
For Marinating, you actually want to use a stronger single mash bourbon with TONS of flavor. Believe it or not, to make a more flavorful marinade, using a basic yet very spicy Bourbon like Evan Williams will give you some of the best results. Using a more expensive and smooth bourbon will actually be less noticeable in a marinade.
I made this marinate I used Evan Williams honey, and I put Lea Perrins Worcester sauce Instead of soy man it was good, Try cooking the steak, covered in rock salt.
One Christmas I did a prime rib in my smoker used the Jack Daniels EZ marinade but add 2 shots of Jack. Smoked for 9 hrs also used the JD barrel smoking chips. Have used the charcoal that they use to filter the JD with as smoking instead of the barrel chips. The prime rib melted in you mouth it was so delicious. I didn't share it with anyone ate it all myself.
Got the marinade in the fridge now, went with Gentleman Jack, I noticed you QUARDUPLED the ingredients, I made a marinade using original sizing for 3 steaks, and then after finishing this video, doubled up on the Jack. Will use Montreal Steak Seasoning before dropping it on the grill, can't wait!
For an every day drinking whiskey I couldn't agree more. At around $20 a bottle you can't beat it. That being said if you have the money to burn there are better whiskeys out there.
I am partial to Jim Beam but I have tried and like Jack also. That marinade is almost like one I made up and started using about 4 years ago. Yours looked easy and good. I had never thought about putting the rub on last ,I always put it in the marinade. Love your videos!!

Maybe it's just me but Eagle Rare is kind of close to Maker's because of the hint of cinnamon in both so maybe that will add a little something to the steak. Buffalo Trace is smoother on the back end so maybe with this method BT wel be more of a "hmmmm........" instead of a "heeeyyy......". I love 1792 Small Batch but not sure if I'm ready to try this with that though. Favorite, easy-to-find whiskey:
Bourbon: Old Forester 1920
Irish: Redbreast
Scotch: Macallan 15yr
My current favorite scotch is a glendfiddich 15yr
My favorite whiskey is the one that is in the glass in my hand at the time!
Maaan, that was my exact thought!!
Amen to that.
I'll admit, watching meat being grilled in slow motion with rock and roll. Was quite satisfying.
Favorite whiskey is the kind that is in front of me. I'm not picky, especially if it is free.
I'm going to try this on hanger or flank steak because marinating rib-eyes doesn't seem necessary.
Been marinating steaks in makers for 20 years and its a beautiful thing. Tried the others and they dont compare. MAKERS MARK!
Me as well ...then one day I was out of a Makers and I used Blantons...expensive but wow....just amazing marinade
