- Bioware already confirmed that Shepard survived Mass Effect 3 & might return in Mass Effect 4 or 5...10 years ago. Color me surprised, as one Bioware employee gave a detailed breakdown on the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC (way before Mass Effect Legendary Edition). This raises the possibility that Shepard could make a return in Mass Effect 4 (if we're lucky).

Honestly at this point they should just play into, it like there's no fucking explanation they could give for how shepherd survived that would make any sense. @@snatched.377 Of course but Shepard certainly does. The ending of the third game failed to provide any epilogue or depth as a solution so the next entry should wrap it up. Seeing characters like Geralt in the Witcher getting a happy end to his story I think Shepard deserves the same fate.

I think Jenifer Hale said somewhere, probably in a stream interview, that she nearly cried while recording the farewell scene for Garrus and you definitely hear it in game. I'm not sure how it went for the other romance choices since I only romanced Garrus and saw a few other romance choice scenes, but damn, it really did make things sadder than what they already were.

@@glowhoo9226 Reach, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, Halo Wars 2, Halo: Spartan Assault, and Halo: Spartan Strike all don’t have Chief in it (outside of easter eggs). I love Chief but there’s so much more to Halo than just him, and unfortunately that has been limited by the idea that Halo absolutely needs Chief to be good. We haven’t been able to play as the Arbiter or as an ODST or hell a fucking Brute because the main character has to be Chief in every new release.
Yeah, never got invested into the Andromeda protagonist. Shepard (us) is the face of the franchise for sure.
I'm still firmly in the camp that Legendary Edition was released to make the ME3 saves compatible with ME4 for importation. I'm fully expecting (hoping) to see ME4 just added to the right of ME3 in the launcher on release day!

There won't be any save importing. Not after BioWare came up with Dragon Age Keep app, where you can emulate all your previous choices to get whichever savegame you want. They'll definitely roll out the same thing for ME4

I hope Shep and the old crew get one more adventure. Give everyone closure, maybe a happy ending, that lets us and the universe move forward with new casts without Shep being this elephant in the room.

This just makes Shepard's return more and more likely, even though we cannot say for sure whether they'll actually return. We can only hope :) Great video as always!
This is Shepherd's "one more story". But if I am being honest. I am a scared for the series. I hope that they get it right but I won't be pre-ordering anytime soon.

I'd love Shepherd to be back, but honestly I’d settle for an Admiral Shepherd filling the role of Hacket for the next generation. As long as it wasn’t a bit part, I’d still be happy.
This is what I feel is the most likely. They got Shepherd, they reunited with the LI, lived life, and are now busy doing other things, old, or passed. In the world, but not the MC anymore. A lot like how past characters are respected in Dragon Age games (although I'd prefer if it were a bit more significant). You play someone new, like the Stargazer kid who is rebuilding things, including a new N7 program. Liara/Broker is scrounging old tech to try and bring back the Geth to fight whatever the new thing is.
Or Councilor Shepard. He/she is probably the best human for the job - not a career politician but lots of experience in diplomacy, experienced leader, lots of respect from humans and aliens alike.
If shep is the playable character, and Tali isnt in this game, I refuse to romance anyone.

Yup, if you’re going to have Shep survive one ending at least go all in and show a scene following it where they get picked up by Normandy or something. As is it’s kind of half assed lol
Because it isn't the end. Period. There isn't closure because it isn't closed. Shep has huge draw. He is basically Batman now (but better). They would be insane not to capitalize on the character they have built.

i never used to understand people who desperately want shep to come back in me4. for the longest time, i found myself angry at the thought, because i felt like shepard's death is the ultimate conclusion to the trilogy, and should open up the franchise for further expansion. i'm still angry at ea and bioware for not finishing andromeda and giving us what was promised, but now that i've completed my most recent playthrough of the trilogy and seen it through more mature eyes, i now understand wanting shep back. i want shep back too. there's no shepard without vakarian :( i just want closure to the series, *all* of the stories in the series.
Andromeda happened because BioWare thought Mass Effect and Dragon Age were similar enough so they could give us new main characters and we'll care. Turns out, nobody cares about Mass Effect without Shepard.

I always thought Shepherd lived, after watching the cut scene at the end, of buzz telling the story of Shepherd to the child.
After recounting his adventures of mass effect 1,2 & 3, the child asked for another story, so to me that implied there was more of his life to tell after defeating the reapers.
Also I don't see why destroy wouldn't be the canon ending, as that was the goal of Shepherd afterall.
Her goal was never to wiped out all synthetics only Reapers, that's the only problem I can see here, maybe that would be resolved by more information on what happened to the Geth (if they survived your story up to the end choice) and EDI.
@NicoNick As much as I can agree. It is unlikely for a normal human, but by the end of ME3 shep has a few edges up on most humans. The main one of note being the implants he was given by Cerberus in ME2. The second being the embodiment of luck is in his/her corner at that point in the game
@NicoNick He popped shield and barrier during the explosion. Fell to the planet. Then popped shield and barrier again before hitting the dirt. Anyone who says "how could Shep survive that explosion?" has forgotten ME has literal space-magic... :D

We don’t know if Buzz told the child about Shepard’s full story from them chasing Saren across citadel space to their sacrifice in the reaper wars or if he just told the child about Shepard’s involvement in the reaper wars
I do want my Shepard to survive and for him to build a home with Tali on Rannoch.
But that's where I want it to end. I want Shepard and Tali to live happily ever after. Now I want Bioware to give a new hero the spotlight.
By far the best aspect of Mass Effect is the Galaxy they built and the characters that inhabit it.
By all means, you can mention Shepard and maybe give a clue as to how their lives went post Reapers. But now it's time to pass the torch and give us the opportunity to fall in love all over again with a new generation.

I want my Shepard to have the happy ending he deserves....with Kaidan. They all fought for so long. They need their happy endings. Tali deserves her beach front property. Garrus needs to see his dad and sister again. I would love some references to Shepard in the next game. I remember hearing the Turian distress call in Ryder's dad's logs and we hear that Reaper. That still gives me goosebumps!
Especially if you are a M!Shep, the Kaidan romance feels so longed for, just to end it like that...And don't forget that our Shep says "I love you" for the first time only at the departing scene too! Ughh
@@Ann-wu4uq I can get behind MShep and Kaidan. Though, imo he doesn't feel right with FShep. I think because think it's because FShep has that potential sour history.
@@kibou2357 Agreed! I also like how it felt slower and more developed with M!Shep and Kaidan romance than it felt with F!Shep even though there were more actual scenes with them. I think the reason for that is that it kinda starts off as a "hook up thing" in the first game with F!Shep and yet comes off as "I have been in love with you all this time but now I only had the courage to tell you so because it is the end of the world" with M!Shep in the third game and I fucking love that. Especially after the conflict with Kaidan and the Cerberus situation at the second game, it carries that slow burn so well and makes the third game romance so meaningful and touching.

crazy idea, what if mass effect 4/5 allows you to play as multiple backgrounds
- asari shepard: the daughter of liara and shepard, if you accepted the gift
- krogan shepard: if wrex survived and you cured the genophage, then named one of his sons after you
- actual shepard: if you survived perfect destroy
- clone shepard: what if clone shepard didn't die in the Citadel ending and had a change of heart?
- quarian shepard: adopted son/daughter of shepard and tali
- turian shepard: adopted son/daughter of shepard and garrus
This is good but you would need a crap ton of actors to voice all these different species wich would also take a lot of time.

Hearing about this post made me rethink what we saw in the teaser. I have a theaory that Liara isn't THE ONE character that will play a big role in the next game. I think her appearence was more of a symbolic nature. She is one of the best known side characters and love interests in Mass Effect. Thus being a perfect symbol and stand in for (maybe) all possible love interests from the whole trilogy. Following that i'm assuming that it might be possible that we as the players could potentionally play the role of the love interest we've chosen in the previous games. While most of the story would be the same for everyone (searching for Shepard) there would be some character linked flashbacks and story bits. The story of the chosen charcter would likely take place shortly after ME3. Thats why there was no sign or indication of the Normandy or the rest of the crew in the teaser.. They would have their hands full helping rebuild the galaxy like we've seen it in the extended cut dlc.

Liara was the only love interest that couldn't leave Shepard dead. She actually went out an found our remains, and gave them to Cerberus. In the slim hopes they could somehow bring us back. I'm pretty sure as the shadow broker she used her connections and network to retrieve the clones body after it chose to let go of the shuttle ramp after Brooks and the clone stole the Normandy. Liara is a very practical Asari in love with a hero with a penchant for sacrificing themselves, and the clone stated Cerberus created the clone in case Shepard needed another arm or leg or kidney, (or body?). That the clone was Shepard without Shepards memories or life experiences. Maybe the clone is now in some shadow broker bunker in a tank like Grunt was created in, and suspended inside being taught Shepards memories and Liaras using her embrace Eternity magic to give Shep the feeling of actually having a connection with living those memories and experiences. Liara is the best bet for Shepard to be brought back. The destroy ending shows a rubble covered body taking a breath, so we survived, but sythisis and control uses Sheps body and molecular components as part of the solution. So a body would be needed to bring us back. Oh look a perfect genetic body match. Miranda has already shown she can bring a brain dead person back and have them be the person they were. The protheans could make an exact copy of the minds of an individual and imprint it on a VI, Vigil, Victory, and Vendetta were all examples. Everything is already in the story to accomplish Shepards survival and it would take little work to seamlessly bring it all together in the next installment of the Mass Effect universe. It's just a cut scene and interactive comic away from happening if we are lucky.
@@girlinvt You're right. There are multiple theoretical ways how Shepard could return. But i believe that the destroy ending is the only ending that could open up these possibilities.
The ending in which you let the reapers win is definitely no option. It's the same witch the synthesis ending. In this Shepard loses their body, mind and everything they ever were. I believe that there is no way to recover. The control ending is also problematic because Shepard loses their body and their mind takes the place of the star child. Even if someone could clone Shepards mind it would be very weird to have two Shepards which are in fact the same person. This only leaves the destroy ending as an option which makes the most sense. Not only is it the ending in which Shepard is shown alive, it is also the most logical pick for Shepard storywise.
Despite Liara being the only one trying to save Shepard (which doesn't mean that other crew members whouldn't have tried if they had the same resources as Liara) i don't think that Bioware is going this dark path in which the clones mind will be taken over by Shepard. Even if the clone survived it wouldn't be in the nature of anybody of the crew. This would only be possible if Paragon/Renegade choices would be transferred to the next Mass Effect. In this case it might very well be the case that someone is ruthless enough to make this decision. But doing so would complicate a lot of things. This is why i believe that if Shepard returns Bioware is going with a fresh start for them.
@@TarrusTxT in the Control ending Shepard merges with the star child, so Shep inst who they used to be once that occurs, they are now a new entity, with Sheps strongest personality traits in control. As it is Shepard has shown thru 2 other games that if the option is available to save the Geth or EDI she would do so. There are theories that because they are both sentient programs using synthetic bodies, that they might have been able to survive by retreating back to the storage/data centers. Edi back to her Normandy AI core, the Geth back thru FTL com arrays to the data center they were building over Rannock. I agree I like the destroy option better than any other one. It's also the easiest to continue with, all they would need to do is use the options they used in Legendary Edition. If you didnt play ME1 the interactive comic allowed you to chose what choices you made previously. I didnt play the original version so I'm not sure if the comic option was available for 2 or 3 in the original release. The comic choice options could easily save a player from a total loss of Shepard if they chose the Control or Synthesis ending and they were not the preferred choice for a Canonical ending.
Why just a stand-in? Couldn't it be a case of Liara continuing to crush on and pine for Shepard over the centuries, despite of who Shep romanced in his/her final days? The like of it often happens in the real world.
This is why I want the next ME to open up with us "The Player" playing as a pilot for one of those small Air to Air fighter planes. Our temporary character crashes on the Citadel during the battle and makes his/her way to where Shepard is. During our exploration we come across the Illusive mans shuttle giving our temp. character a way off the citadel.
Now seeing that comment about giving our love interest hope they'll see Shepard again could lead in to one of these theories that Shepard is some how MIA. It will be very interesting to see what direction Bioware takes the future of ME in.
Well it was obvious in me 3 when we all saw that sigh at the end of me 3,which was understandable that Shepard was alive, kinda reminds me ending in Mass Effect 1 like when I first played it and destroyed Sarren and squad were hit by that soveren debris, and I also thought that quote "what!? All that journey as Shepard, he can't die like this after going through all this,only to die like that,it can't be." And then at the end of me 1 Shepard is alive and kicking, so I think Bioware also thought like that,that Shepard just survived, just like in Mass Effect 1.
I hope this “One More Story” the Stargazer spoke of is the definitive end to the Reaper saga, does not take place before Mass Effect 3, and lets me have one more adventure with my favorite sicc girl.
I thought that the scene of Shepard breathing at the end of Mass effect 3, destroy ending with a high enough galactic readiness level would be proof that Shepard did indeed survive?
It gotta be or Bioware is headless on what logic to follow. Control is unclear and trappy at best, Synthesis is basically deciding for all beings a merger, if you dont like that, well sucks to be a synthetic or biological that want to stay pure
I just finished the game with this ending, and I wasn't confident that Shephard would be alive for long; he wouldn't be in the best of health, and I don't know how the Normandy would traverse such a far distance-and in anywhere near a reasonable amount of time-to get to him, seeing as the mass relays were destroyed.

I've never done a Garrus romance or completed a Tali romance in ME3 and seeing how Shepard and Tali spoke to each other after retreating back to the normandy that sscene almost made me cry. I'm very much looking forward to these two romances.

I have a feeling that the plot of ME4, or at least a supporting plot, will revolve around Shepard trying to figure out the exact details of what happened in the crucible rather than the consequences of the endings themselves. In other words its like this: The crucible fired, the Reapers are either annihilated or scattered, and an amnesiac Shepard runs around the galaxy rounding up people who knew him to help fill in the gaps. This means Bioware (in theory) could retcon the endings (especially control or synthesis) and replace them with one true ending, and Shepard is simply trying to put the pieces back together in the story of what he did up there, which would also piece together other details that might change how the galaxy looks in ME4 (Genophage, Quarian/Geth war, Rachni, etc) and how those plots might effect the new storyline.
TL;DR - every ending was canon except refusal (its treated like the "Everyone Dies" ending in ME2), but not to the extent as it might be portrayed in ME3 after the final choice was made.
Compare to Daggerfall's endings and the Warp in the West for endings and the subplots in the Witcher 1 and 2 which are about Geralt's amnesia.

The Synthesis ending would be the most appropriate to serve as a "Dragon Break".
I always thought about a similar story except you play as a new protagonist tasked with finding out what happened to Shephard. The Reapers were destroyed/retreated, but they never found a body for Shepherd.
Liara would be in a role similar to Illusive Man in 2 where she's paying the new protagonist to look for clues and stuff, and your investigation takes you to old characters and whatnot. Would also give the opportunity to play as different races.
Well I can only say this, if the old crew is coming back as teasers say: There is no Shephard without Vakarian. It works both ways
Agreed, I would not play a Mass effect with Shepard in it if Garrus is not there either, it would be very hard without Wrex, Tali and Liara too but without Garrus ? No way.
All I want is one final ride with Shepard and the surviving crew with a nice happy ending or a horrible one depending on your choices from previous games assuming they matter.
I am so thankful for your real deep passion about Mass Effect series. Also glad to hear contents related to it. You are a special gift for this beloved series and people who felt in love with . Please keep on creating new contents. But kindly in my opinion i prefer Shepard is dead. İ believe that his/her story is over. It was beautiful and glorious path but story must continue without him/her for a fresh restart.

I don't want Shepard dead, but yes, the series can and must move on from her. The concept of Andromeda wasn't bad, a fresh start, but the execution was horrible.
Shep's story can be over with him/her still being alive. Just show us something like him settling down somewhere after calling it quits on military life(and saving the galaxy on at least two/three separate occasions).
Damn, I just found this channel yesterday and finished the trilogy. Here I am a day later with this amazing news that you all have been waiting so long to hear. Love your channel, ill be watching and waiting as eagerly as everyone else for the new Mass Effect!
With the lack of closure with the ending, I'm definitely willing to give bioware another shot at redemption with Shepard. Even if Shepard is just passing on the torch that would be good enough for me.
He's been confirmed alive since the ending of ME 3. I saw him breath and his nameplate was never placed on the Normandy Memorial.
I see a lot of talk about a "canon" ending. No ending has to be canon, you can just explain it with a branching timeline. The destroy ending is the only ending that would let you play as Shepard again so all Bioware has to do is say "this follows the destroy timeline" and maybe they can explore more options with a game following control, synthesis and refusal.
This is actually a genius suggestion which could honestly work and be good for their monetisation.
You have to make a canon ending.
It would take too much work and time to account for all different endings.
Especially if we choose the refusal ending, then there would be an entirely new setting far into the future with new species fighting the reapers
Refusal? That would mean a completely diffrent setting and completely diffrent species set in the far future.I guess some people might have made it out like some Protheons survived. But not sure where the story could go with 99.99% of life destroyed. I guess the plot could be to destroy the reapers to stop the cycle from occuring to any future species. But that is essentially the plot of the other mass effect games except this time nobody is alive.

I basically already knew Shepard survived based on the information presented to us in-game that was mentioned in this post. Kinda hard to skip over that info. As for which ending is canon, while it's not exactly clear which ending is canon, it's been implied through what little we have that Destroy is the canon ending
Destroy just _feels_ canon.
The camera focuses on the look of grim determination with gritted teeth as Sheperd blows it all up, which is how Sheperd has been through the entire trilogy: ready to put themselves on the line just to end it all once and for all...
Control implies the Player was wrong all along because the Illusive man was right and makes half the game redundant if it is canon.
The third option of letting the cycle continue is just... Well it really means that all of your efforts were for nought in the 3 previous games and that is not ideal marketing.

Considering that the "Shepard is alive" ending is the hardest to get, it makes sense. I do, however, do think it's interesting that the kill AI route has to be canon then.

It would be pretty cool to see shepherd and company try to prevent the thing that's happening in Andromeda(as unfrozen in the future)and potentially learn why the reapers reaped, and what happens if they don't
The reason why they reaped was already explained. As was the alternative. I'll put it in a different but amusing way. They reaped for the same reason Elon musk wants to get humanity to colonize Mars . That reason is because it's life insurance for life all life. The reaper mandate is to prevent synthetics extermining organic sentience. Elon musk in a different way yet still life insurance for life. In his case should something be catastrophic for humans and other creatures on Earth the hope is that spreading to Mars would one day also lead to the preservation of animal and plant life on Earth.
Perfect destroy ending is the only logical canon ending already. They should make it canon. I can write an essay about why perfect destroy ending is the canon ending let's just say synthesis and control endings are simply Shepard being indoctrinated. Reapers want synthesis ending so bad and they are also ok with control ending. The only ending harbinger ( starchild, catalyst is the harbinger in fact ) did not want is destroy ending.
Javik warned us about this in Mass Effect 3. Javik says to us we should do what we set out to do when it's time and we should not change our minds. Javik says, you should destroy reapers when you have the chance in future, you should not choose to do something else. In short develepors let us know destroy was only canonical ending through Javik.
There are countless more reasons why perfect destroy ending is the canon ending.
I choose the synthesis ending. So my Shepard is totally dead.... but she met Thane on the other side of the ocean, so she's alright.

Reading some comments here and i have to agree. I used to belive that it was time for the universe to move on from shep. Andromeda changes my view a lot but still belived it was the right direction . But after doing a full depth playthru of the legendary edition, man shepard is like chief and cortana. i cant see it without them.
I respect all opinions, but for me, I invested so much emotions on shep that I AM Shepard. People who still think is best to move to another character might see Shep as just a Character. I see Shepard in first person, we are Shepard and we want to continue our story man
I think shepherds role in the game will be mentor to the players character.
I want Shepard to stay Alive, living in Ranoch with Tali and some childs, but maybe in the new game I rather want him as a supportive character than the main character again (Sorry for my English)

It doesn't have to be perfect destroy.
In Control ending, Shepard is technically still alive. It's conciseness is tied to the Reapers.
If they got him a new body (which is possible due to Citadel DLC plotline) they can just upload his "soul" back into his body and viola.
Honestly, the only ending that will not be cannon is synthesis ending as that would change way too much.
You do realize that with complete control of the Reapers, this removes any sort of possible, interesting complications that would require the same, cover-based shooter gameplay to resolve, right? Another alien attack from a species not native to the galaxy? Send a Reaper after them. Done.
"Oh no the invading force can deactivate Reapers!" Then they should have invaded a long time ago. They wouldn't be scared of Reapers if they have the power to deactivate them.
@NicoNick I forget where I heard it because I've never done a Renegade Control ending, and only did the Paragon Control ending years ago, but apparently his ending monologue is a bit... dictator-y? I could definitely see him taking over the Reapers as corrupting him or some shit so a new protagonist with the og Normandy Crew has to find another way to take him and the Reapers down.
But yeah, it looks like Perfect Destroy ending is the canon one for now.
Control is a insidious, uncertain choice a trap. Synthesis is you deciding against all otherswill/ or for every damn being in the galaxy that they have NO say in that you mix synth and biological life. Destroy is raw, rough but honest and blows only when it comes to the Geth getting wiped and you strived for them and Quarians to live in peace. BUT synths can be rebuilt, Shepard sure have some tech thanks to Cerberus but survives
@@thespianmask8451 We do not know what course the next game will take, but having some other force more powerful than Reapers appear is not out of question. They may be using dark matter as a main weapon or something else as powerful. Maybe Shepard that controls the Reapers will be the villain and the one that you upload your conciseness to will be the main protagonist.
Who knows? I know that we are not asked for opinions and that we can just love or hate new story so there is no need to be dramatic like fans were over Andromeda.
I may be misremembering but last time I played the perfect destroy ending, one difference from the other endings was that when the camera pans over Shepard's body next to his N7 helmet in the wreckage there is a brief second where Shepard draws a breath right before the scene cuts :)
I like to imagine they are doing ANOTHER trilogy to explore all three endings. Def not gonna happen but I don't think they have said that's NOT what they are gonna do 🤔🤔

It always took me out of immersion. Harbringer is just standing there and he's doing nothing, when THE NORMANDY is in sight. Not to mention I think Shepard and the others would have decided against wasting time to evac, when the rush to the beam is the only way to save the galaxy
Yeah, I played it recently and I was really bothered by that. Shep and Liara are standing there on the ramp having a moment, and I'm sitting there like "Hurry it up, before we get frakin' reaped!"

I love the final rush to the beam, it was the moment we have prepared for all the game... it is so dramatic and heavy in emotions. As much as I want to play Shepard again, I also think she deserves to rest, and cure all the mental and physical damage she received during this war, or rest in death in peace... so I don't know (but could Shepard not throw herself in any new battle to come, given her character?). ME without playable Shepard is not ME to me, I just hope that BioWare would take time to think it well. I also cannot think of any other possible canonized ending other than destroy (preferably perfect destroy, as it means that the player took his/her time to play), it was all the time the real objective to the mission, as Hackett said when you tell him that TIM wished to control the Reapers, he stated firmly that destroying the Reapers, and destroying only is the goal. All the other outcomes it fulfilling the star child's wish, because the Reapers survive and the child's goal, so how could they be canon (if they decide to canonize any ending of course)? Anyway, it is great news, thank you for bringing it up to us! I wish that BioWare itself gave us any update... They should have hired you the moment they announced ME4.
I can definitely see Shepard's last story before finally retiring. I could see him becoming a part of the Council as its Human Representative or he/she can fully retire with their Romance seeing their worlds repairing slowly. Gives it a Hopeful feeling for the future and at peace.
At most I hope shepard becomes an advisor or a "spiritual" presence. I just really want playable races 😂

@@DrJellyFanguzzz shouldn't be a Canon shep imo. Hopefully they'll do a save transfer or something like dragon age keep. But if they can't I think they should leave shepards fate open with hints or links to either type of shepard.

Hey Mr. Hulthen- I wanted to note that I personally believe that the "Shepard breathes" scene happens on the Earth's surface. How did Shepard get to Earth? I think he must have survived reentry inside a piece of the Citadel or Crucible. I say this because in the Low EMS Destroy ending, we see a soldier without any breathing apparatus looking through some rubble who finds an N7 helmet. Behind the soldier are clouds that look like gray Earth clouds with what looks like sunbeams coming through them. The implication to me is that this is the same pile of rubble that we see the breathing Shepard on in the "perfect" ending.

Shepard is a survivor. Battle of the Citadel, destruction of the Normandy SR-1, the omega 4 relay, collector base suicide mission, the attack of earth, final confrontation with Illusive man, star child nonsense and lots more in between. If there's one thing Shepard is good at, it's defying the odds and surviving.

Shepard lived in my playthrough. I still don't know why people don't know this. if you made the right choices through all three games he lives in the end.
I just want them as an advisor and get them a happy ending for those who want that. As I want a new character and new companions and romances. I feel like no one will do a new romance their first run if Shepard was the for runner. As people want them to be with their past romances. I want them to do what DA does at least starting now. So we have new characters but it doesn’t throw away the old.

Landing on earth with the SR2.. WHICH CANT LAND ON PLANETS!
Minor correction - can only land on planets with more difficulty due to its larger size/mass. And the games really never go into detail where the upper limit for frigates is, anyway. They don't, for example, say if it could land on a 1G planet, but not on a 1.5G planet or something. Obviously, 2G and higher is almost definitely out of question.
All I know for certain is that cruisers and bigger, not counting Reapers, are incapable of performing planetary landings.
Given that liara is going to be in the next mass effect game, I think a great way to give Shepard one final farewell is to have liara recount a memory of Shepard's last moments to the next games protagonist, be it Ryder or someone new. I can see it playing out as the Normandy crew finding Shepard in the wreckage of the citadel. Then they can have a scene where Shepard gets to say their true final goodbyes to the crew and their friends. A bonus thing here would be to let the player control the dialogue in this hypothetical flashback scene for extra feels. Of course I still think Shepard should die here at the end of this scene, because 1: though they survived they got to be barely hanging on, and it could even be played off like they were hanging on just long enough to see their friends/love interest one last time and to make sure they made it out. and 2: Shepard's story is over and they just need to be put to rest, I really think that bringing back Shepard for the next game as a protagonist would be a disservice to the narrative of the trilogy, but having this flashback scene where you control Shepard one last time would be the perfect send off.
I keep hearing people saying that Liara has "Wrinkles" in the trailer but I don't believe that, I just think that the trailer was created using a better engine than the 10 year old original trilogy thus adding more detail to her face. Also in the Legendary Edition she has some wrinkles around her eyes.
I mean it's still just wait and see, like I remember bioware confirming that shepherd does live in the easter egg ending back then But it isn't like they were invisioning a future game where that mattered.
Not to mention the existence of andromeda and a desire to incorporate that has changed the calculus that they may have had if they were going straight from mass effect 3.

I think the only canon endings would be control or destroy. Because the synthesis ending changes many things. It's telling that all the biological and cultural difference's don't mean anything and overall it's too utopic and impossible.

Based on the Mass Effect Trailer which featured the return of Liara, from the narrative that was on show, it seemed to me that the perfect destroy ending was made the cannon from all the derbis field of the mass relays and the citadel, also it framed Liara as the person who is looking for Shepard because she is shown to be on a snowy planet, the same one which I link has the wreckage of the Normandy SR1 since there’s a piece of Shepards old ME1 armour there.
they could bs that Shep survived both imperfect and perfect destroy, arguing that shepard breathing was just a bonus for completionists and that he always survives destroy, making it the canon ending and much more accessible to be imported should he be the protag in the next game as ME3 just sends you back to final save after completion, so anyone can just do the last part again if they didnt pick destroy on their favourite shepard. if he's not the protagonist it could just alter how the galaxy played out and how characters remember him in the future. would be awesome if you romanced liara for her to have unique lines about shep in the new ME, maybe even having children after the final love scene
Well,in my 1st play through wayyyy back went part 3 was released, he opened his eyes and took a breath in the very last cut screen.
He probably spent some time in the hospital after London, but currently Shepard and Liara are raising their beautiful blue daughter together.
I find it a bit funny that when showing and narrating the post by Tully we clearly see a Tali romance playthrough in the background as both names sound very similar

Mass Effect without Shepard is not Mass Effect. It's the steaming pile of Kalros excrement known as Andromeda.
Anderson should have made a sacrifice in the end of the ME3, especially after the casual conversation between them in which he asked the shepard how he would see himself as a parent.
The best scene with Shep's love interest being rescued by the Normandy is between FemShep and Garrus. Jennifer Hale is holding back real tears and you can hear it in her performance.
Also, Shep should stay dead for a number of reasons. I'd really hate to see Bioware lean on Shep as a hardcore crutch. That'll be a sign of bad writing right from the get go. The ME universe is bigger than Shep, and the sacrifice in 3 shouldn't be so easily invalidated.
I’d like one more game with a better ending then I could care less where they take the story.

Tully Ackland was Community Marketing Manager at BioWare, Sep 2011 - Jan 2014, so enough time to cover the Mass Effect 3 launch. The BSN post is in line with what was being shared at the time (and which is commonly understood) is that the 'breath' scene of Destroy, offered the likelihood of further life for Shep. There has been separate dev comment to indicate that the 'breath' was a bit of an easter egg and its community importance is beyond what BioWare intended; All outcomes being equally valid. As much as a canon ending is discussed, that would be quite the problematic denial of choice.
I don’t think this really confirms Shepard survived 100%, just that he survives IF you got that ending, which we already knew

As much as my beloved Synthesis ending would be more interesting to me as a sci fi fan, I do think they'll probably have to make perfect destroy canon.

As cool as it is and as impossible as it sounds to continue the main Mass Effect games _without_ Shepard (after the poor reception of Andromeda), playing as an Alliance Marine who fought during zero hour, got knocked out, and woke up in the middle of nowhere in basically an apocalypse after the Reaper War was "won"?

Star Child also confirms at the end of the game that there are other stories of The Shepard. That it wanted another one.
