I bought a 2008. It has ape hanger’s and extended forward controls. It has a stage 2 screaming eagle kit. I was soooo scared the first time I took off on it. I came off a 883 Harley. I had no problem getting used to it
Just picked up a 14 fat bob. The things you mentioned was my exact thoughts when I 1st ride mine. The rear brake possibly not working. The heat, lot of heat coming from the Exhuast at a stop light. The vibrations at certain rpm. The foot slipping. The super comfortable seat. All that said. I love mine
The dyna Fatbob was designed for the taller riders. I'm 6'5" and my 2016 model fit me perfectly when stock. It's the first bike I didn't have to modify to fit me.
In the process of buying a Dyna. Keep thinking do I really wanna spend so much on a Harley, it's slow, impractical etc. Then watch a video like this and remember exactly why I want one. Big twin sound, gears that go "clonk", superb build quality, made of steel not plastic, can chill out on the motorway at 85mph all day long. Analogue clocks, spoked wheels, no chain maintenance. Worth the money.
I have an 08 Fat Bob. It was my first bike since a 125cc I had 25 years ago. At first she feels a little portly, but a few rides down the road and you will really enjoy her once you have become accustomed to the feel.
@@Kwackajack one more ride becomes two more rides, becomes a weeks rides, sees you at the HD dealer "testing the bike" and finally you start posting new vids of your rides on your new HD :P
Fun review - makes a Canadian wish he were in Australia right now. As someone who rides both sport (GSXR) and cruiser (Fat Bob) I can sympathize with one of the issues you mentioned, but it comes with a solution. Do not "struggle" to steer, this means you are leaning and twisting or pulling the handles rather than counter-steering (pushing) out on one. Be conscious of counter-steering and even the largest (or smallest Ninja) bike is more responsive and stable riding. The FXDF is a highly maneuverable bike limited only by clearance until you upgrade your shocks - then it's a cornering beast. My GSXR was just as tough to manhandle at 240 but counter-steering made it smooth. As I say, try it on the ninja as well and see if it doesn't make you sportier.. Re vibration: My bike hits that "tickle spot" between gears only. The bike wants to rev above 2500 for cruising - all the way to about 3500. Riding too low like that heats up the engine (as you noticed); it's oil cooled essentially, so keep that oil splashing. It's a bit of a biker trick, but you don't ride in that sub-2500 range unless you have a girl on the back ;-) Ask your dad, but don't tell your mom,
I 100% agree with you "don't struggle to steer" this bike. It handles very well around curves. I've been low enough (accidentally) to scrape the outer primary. I'm going to try that higher RPM trick to help keep the bike cool. Thanks for the advice. What shocks did you upgrade to?
Whats up my dyna bros. I was a street bike crotch rocket guy forever. I didnt understand the harley thing. Then i picked up a 2017 fat bob laguna orange. Went for a ride with 4 harley buddies, and then i understood. Harleys are a lifestyle. A comradery. I love it.
Great bike, great review. HD Fat Bob Dyna (2012) is my first bike, it’s been a great experience owning it. I let the crotch rockets do their thing, I enjoy cruising.
i have a fatbob and have no problem going around corners or roundabouts, looks like you were over doing it in that roundabout, But i do have many years of experience on big bikes.
Bought myself a 2008 Fatbob last week. My first bike was a Suzuki VZ800 Marauder. And they are not comparable at all. The Harley feels so much bigger and more unwieldy. But i've started to get used to the bike now. and try to ride as much as I can untill winter comes. And I agree, speed does not feel fast on it. I think this has been going super slow in 80. The guy I bought it from has it basically straight piped. I think it's a bassani 2 in 1, Luckily he sold the bike to me with a DB killer so neighbours won't completely hate me... yet.
Nice bike! I’m considering buying a 2017 Dyna Fat Bob. How do you like this bike compared to the new Fat Bob 114? Any regrets about this bike at all? I really like it.
Fair review. I have never really been interested in the air cooled cruisers either but I ride an 865 Triumph America. On order I have the Sportster S, I guess it is on a boat right about now. 124 HP and 121 NM torque in 230kg of bike. That might be more your playground mate. Exciting times.
Crazy how this bike is so different compared to a proper sport bike. Two different worlds. Harleys are heavy with big underpowered engines and crappy brakes, but they love to cruise and maybe set your leg on fire. Sport bikes just want you to go go go carve corners with the precision of a surgeon and the speed of a bullet, and maybe donate some organs.
Ya 15:23 gotta remember , it's like a 32 Ford hot rod . A modern sport bike is like a Ferrari. I have the harley your sitting on and a 2012 FZ-1. Lol. They aint the same ! Lol
The seating position on the fat bob is a "clam shell" position. Typical foot forward stance. Also, it's tons easier to find neutral while you are still rolling forward.
Well if you thought that was a challenge dont jump on a older scoot then .. Most hog's have a rider that has made it suit there style of riding and comfort . And yes i have a hog Shovel' evo ' later shovel frame later evo motor .. Stay up right young fella 😎
im too scared to take anyone elses bike for a ride (ESpecially the huge big bikes)..... at least with mine, its 300kg... if i drop it, its my problem.... if i take someone elses bike and drop it, its my problem.. its more of my problem the heavier it is
Sounds great ! But this weight and the overall fit is just a turn off ! I’ll stick to sport and naked bikes … great to see out and about on a different bike though.

I had one of those, definitely not a beginner bike. It's a handful but a fun and great handling machine.

Perhaps I need to spend more time with it, the difference between this and anything else I've ridden is vast

Always been a sports bike guy, but this thing looks like a lot of fun to cruise through the country side on.

You're correct. You just have to grow into it . All bikes are different. An Oldsmobile isnt a corvette.

Great review, love the sound coming out of that beast!!
Thanks!
On the Harleys the gear indicator only reads if your off the clutch as soon as you pull it in it won’t tell you anything
Yep 🤙🏍😎
You don't struggle while riding a bike it just happens regardless of the riding stance and that's the beauty of the riding

Thank you for the video chat considering getting one coming from a gsxr 750 and Cbr 600rr lol. But wanna get a cruiser still not sure

That bike should not vibrate once in motion. If you're feeling vibrations, it probably needs a service on the engine mounts.

Own a HD Sportster 1200 and love the FatBob. What a beast of a machine. Thanks for sharing. ⭐️
Where is the Tacho on this?
Hey i own a harley i wave at all passing motorcycles 🤣
O quit .
@9 fuel tank is only right, left is blind
Many years ago there were 2 tanks, left and right, but today, they left that as decoration
The left is the fuel gauge 😉
Tell your pa the bike needs an oil cooler on for a cooling aid.
It sounds a beast of a machine,
Would I want one? Nah. Keep it.
I prefer a chain rather than an elastic band to give me power.
Many companies make chain conversion kits for Harleys, for cheap.
Why would you want a chain over a belt? The belt is stronger, quieter, cleaner, requires less maintenance and is much more reliable!
You haven't been making much videos lately. Anything going on??
Nice but dude you better be staying kwacka ✌️🤣🤣 great vids
Bro, counter steer.
I have the 2013 fatbob take it for a love ride ! I bet you fall in love with her😊
Sounds great ! But this weight and the overall fit is just a turn off ! I’ll stick to sport and naked bikes … great to see out and about on a different bike though.
🎩💯💯
Great bike and sounds great just not made for your son
Sorry I watched..
Coincidentally, this morning I took delivery of my 2009 Dyna Fat Bob 96ci. 7800 babied miles. I almost "stole" it.🫢
I gotta 2008, Your going to love it. That era Fat Bobs are the best cruisers hands down.
