Flamma Innovation: PREAMP FS06

- Опубликовано: 11 сен 2024
- The PREAMP FS06 features seven classic preamp types with selectable clean and gain channels for each, and cab sims to suit. If you're running an external cab sim or IR loader, you can turn off the Preamp's own cab sims. For this video I'm running the sims as they sound great to me and are part of the great value that the Preamp offers. I may make another video with a third party IR if that's what people wish to see/hear as well. I don't mind saying that the many of the preamps offered in the FS06 are easily on par with those offered in pedals asking four or five times the price. If you're after a one stop amp/cab solution with presets to save your favourite amp/cab combos, the PREAMP FS06 might well be your answer. I like it.

*The signal path was as follows. Guitar to Input of Axe-FX III. No amp or cab sims were used in the Axe-FX III. Instead, I ran an FX Loop in and out of the Axe which enabled me to insert Tube Screamer and Phaser sims before the FS06 and delay and reverb sims after it. From there I went straight to Logic Pro X. So what you hear here would be almost identical to a simple pedalboard setup that featured the PREAMP as amp/cab sim generator with an overdrive and phaser in front of it and some time-based effects behind.
Rock on.
These direct solutions have come a loooong way from the old days of COSM.
So true. I swore up and down 20 years ago I would NEVER play direct to PA. These days playing in quieter venues like church and small eating establishments I often have to play direct. And today’s options to play direct (I use a Joyo American) are more than adequate. I’d like to try this preamp someday. I like its sound and form factor.
@@MrSpeed-lt8gr Actually my Joyo American straight into my Bose S1 Pro (with the speakers bass and treble pulled out, bit of reverb) sounds really great. I am a tube amp snob also haha
@@clintwhite3021 Then you must you a D style amp, right?
@@roblarson9065 yea I've got a few haha. Nah just had some good ones over the years but the little joyo American sound is great for messing about.
@clint white how do you think the Joyo American Sound compares to this? Particularly this one's Fender amp?
Call me slow (or a tight-wad), but I DID order one after watching THIS video about 10 times spanning 2 weeks.
I love this thing.
I'd be playing through it this minute, but my figures are so sore from going at for HOURS upon HOURS already, I can hardly even type this.
THANK YOU, Brett, for the amazing, fast-paced, informative demo(s)!
BTW, your playing is GREAT too!
Same just got one today. Thing is awesome!
I'm impressed that the volume levels between the clean channels and dirty channels is rather consistent. Looks like a great little preamp for home recording in the DAW.
Very well thought out pedal. Especially having a clean channel for each drive is really cool.
I bought one of these several months ago on the strength of its sound in Brett’s demos. The FS06 sounds every bit as good in person as it does here.
I usually turn the speaker sim off & run it into a Torpedo Cab M+. This has become an incredibly useful little rig. I use it for recording quick ideas when not wanting to mess with my tube amps & big pedal board. It’s also become my travel rig; I put an Ibanez AD9 mini between them, plug in some headphones to the Cab M & have tons of tones to play with.
In the 30 or so years I’ve been playing, this pedal is the most value for money I’ve ever seen. If you’re on a budget or just want a great sounding recording/travel solution this is the ticket. Can’t recommend it enough.
Sweet! Does it sound as good, or at least almost as good, through headphones?
Flamma is the best new pedal brand out there now, incredible!
This is without a doubt the best value preamp pedal on the market.
I bought it as soon as I saw this video , and am so happy with how it sounds.
Punches well above its price range.
They could have easily made it double the price (I’m glad they didn’t tho)
I might even buy another before they come to their senses and raise the price
I just gigged this pedal this last weekend direct without any other IR using the Marshall preamp, an external boost, and then into a detuner and delay/reverb. It sounded great. I can't believe how great this pedal is.
I WILL say that a lot of the clean channels can get a weird clipping sound- I don't hear it on this review but 60 cycle hum's video, it's very evident. When Brett first flips to the AC30 on this video, you can hear it. But it's 75 bucks. Totally useable.
I have this & the cab pedal. A big brand would sell both for double the price. I use them as a simple direct recording solution. The stock amp models sound fantastic! The cab pedal is also stereo with many options including loading custom ir's.
I watched...I listened...I liked...I bought. Got to love great pedals at an amazing price point.
Very impressed; using it after my Wampler Dual Fusion pedal. Replaces several other pedals to get the various amp tones I like.
I love the tonal dynamic from the pickup combo in that Charvel, as well as this nifty pedal here, might just have to purchase one
Fantastic preamp pedal. Plethora of the killer staples all spot on in my opinion. The fact is, this channel is always spot on!! Cheers !
You're too kind, Robert. Thanks!
How on earth could someone not absolutely love this? Fantastic demo of it, and killer skills!
As usual thoroughly professional and enjoyable show BK
Thanks, Michael.
This is the exact solution for playing weddings I needed. Thank you. Sounds amazing.
I bought this preamp yesterday and it should arrive here in Brazil in 30 days ... And I haven't seen your review yet! Now that I’ve watched it, I’m pretty sure I’ve got a good deal. Cheers from Brazil!
Purchaced one based on this demo. I just received it last night and will checki it out tonight!
Let us know how noisy it is please Keeper or not ? Thanks
@@paulcowart3174 I found it very noisy in a weird static crackling way on the higher gain settings. The clean and low gain stuff was ok. I gave it away to a friend.
Never had a preamp this has got me interested Bret great informative demo 👍soooo preamp or EQ-200
Preamp!
Hell yeah. Thanks Flamma-flav! I have an old Vox Valve Reactor power section amp that blew out it's preamp. This is a perfect way to make use of it again, and with more flexibility than my current emulator pedals.
I'll order one and report back on how it compares to some other preamp style pedals I have: Bogner Ecstacy Blue (Plexi+), Vox Cooltron Dual Overdrive, Vox Straight 6 Overdrive, Vox Flat 4 Boost, Tech 21 Liverpool (Vox) and/or Blonde (Fender), Joyo California Sound (mesa boogie).
Not sure if you'd call JHS Charlie Brown and Superbolt pre-amp pedals or not. It's a fine line between overdrive pedal and pre-amp. They basically do the same thing but a pre-amp pedal will usually have a wider frequency range.
But I'll do a comparison with them, too, along with my various other plexi pedals, of which I probably have too many, and I can compare this guys BE-100 with my Joyo Uzi (BE-OD clone), and I can see if any of the Flamma flavors get close to any of my dumble pedals.
Oh, the places you'll go!...
OK, this doesn't work well at all to replace an amp's pre-amp section. I tried in on the aforementioned Vox and my 15W tube amp via the send return jack. The Flamma allows far too much low and high end frequencies to come through, and the pedal's EQ stack can't compensate. If your amp's EQ section is post-send-return, you might be able to dial it in. But basically the Flamma is really designed as a direct-to-board or direct-to-DAW solution, not a true "pre-amp". I did discover my Bogner Ecstacy Blue pedal and my Joyo R-Series Taichi Dumbler pedal both work exceptionally well as replacements for my amps' pre-amp sections.
The Flamma FS-06 is very easy to use, and the dual-channel feature is great.
You have to save each channel one at a time, you can't toggle from clean to drive channel without losing your settings, which makes it a bit harder to set levels. You'll have to save each time you want to compare one to the other.
I wish they'd added in some simple reverb so it would be a true amp replacement for running to the PA at gigs.
Sometimes the thing starts up with a bit of hiss/whine, or a lot of noise in the line. Likely just a software issue because I could fix mine by disconnecting the power and re-connecting.
There's a typo in downloadable manual, btw: Hold down the two buttons simultaneously to switch the cab sim on/off, and the Save/Select button will blink if cab sim is on.
@@AndrewLewisHowe thanks for the follow-up, it's really helpful
This is an awesome pedal! I was especially surprised with the 5150 clone and mesa Boogie Hi gain amp models. A very versatile unit indeed. The Fender channel takes a distortion and/or gain pedal very well.
Does the mesa boogie channel take pedals well? How's the mesa channel compared to mooer 017 which is a mark 4 unit? Thanks.
@@melodicshredder5834 I’ve never tried the Mooer. Yes the Mesa clean and dirty channel takes pedals well. It’s a very versatile pedal, impressive 🤘🏾the ones I use the most are the fender clean channel, Mesa clean and dirty and the 5150 dirty side🤘🏾
@@melodicshredder5834I just saw this… the Mesa clean is also good. I run an Angry Driver b4 the pre amp pedal as an alternate drive / Dist stage. The only issue is not being able to change amp models without stooping down live. But most of the time I’m using either the Fender clean and/or Mesa clean w the Dist channel as the dirty channel. I don’t think you will be unhappy with this pedal imo. There’s so many options nowadays 🤣🤘🏾
As soon as I heard the Marshall, then the Mesa, I immediately ordered one, thanks!
Awesome demo. I got this and their Cab pedal together, endless fun. Cheers!
They got something great here. Yes, it looks great and the layout is very simple. Ive never seen a preamp with so much versatility. Just pop it in the middle of your effects chain and your set. Can’t get much better at this price point.
Thanks Brett!
Holy cow.... this thing is cool. And the playing.... SCORCHING! That opening was sikk. Just sikk.
I got mine just a few days ago and so far it's amazing. Amazing bang for the buck at $70 USD.
Man that is a fine pedal and extremely good value. Beautifully demo'd also Brett.
Your playing is tasty and pleasant to my ears. Thanks for demoing this unit. Cheers!
Very cool!
Nice to see you on The Sound last night too mate. :-)
Thanks! That was good fun.
Awesome job as always, master. Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you! Cheers!
The only decent..nay, PERFECT demo of this, thank you.
Ordered!
Well this video led me to buying one of these about 5 minutes ago. 🤘😬🤘
Me, too!
@@richardburkow3792 it has some usable sounds built in going DI but it does not take any front end pedal well. Tried a boost, OD, Dist and all were rough. Sounded better on its own
@@Peehoot Agreed, I bought one and it arrived yesterday. I have been using Tech 21 Blonde with a Fulltone Fulldrive and/or Nobels ODR which sounds great for live and recording. I quite liked the AC30 on the Flamma but does NOT take pedals in front of it well. My Fulltone works great in front of most pre's but not the Flamma. On close analysis recording, there's something not quite right about it, a certain harshness that cant be dialled out. And I hate the digital pots. It's OK for a cheap fix but no way I would gig with it. It's gone on eBay this morning.
A most excellent demo!
Awesome demo. Tks. I bought this.😊
That peddle sounds amazing, crazy price. I just ordered one. Handy peddle to have on any peddleboard.
"peddle" lol
6:44 very nice
Great video, This is amazing.
Thanks for another great and USEFUL demo, Brett!!
Bloody hell! That sounds good. Thanks Brett. Top review again ;-)
Proper happy Eric Clapton started doing these review videos
Sounds Awesome! Great Review! Nice playing!🎸👍🏻👍🏻
Really great sounds. Thanks so much for this video.
That’s a winner for $70 bucks good job BURG’s 🤘Rock on🎸
Amazing pedal and demo. Thanks. Getting one.
Sounds surprisingly good for the price Brett. Amazon says, 'Currently unavailable.'
They’re available now. I just received it today. So far I really like it.
@@MrSpeed-lt8gr Does it sound as rich as it did with Brett. I want to use it to record direct to my DAW, good for that?
@@Neil-Aspinall I think it does sound just as rich. I haven’t had a chance to try it direct to PA yet so I haven’t used the cab sim. I’ll let you know how it sounds when I use it this coming weekend at church.
@@MrSpeed-lt8gr Much appreciated Eric!
Great video man! Just ordered mine... Thanks for this.
I have a wild theory: this is actually 7 mooer micro preamps in one pedal. You mentioned 3rd party IR support in the comments, is this going to be a thing? Because then I will most definitely buying this.
Danng u rippin brother sounds great thanks for demo
Damn this is cheap and sounds amazing!
Is this the same as the iridium where it will go at the end of your signal chain since it is the “amp”?
Brilliant review and demo 👍🏻
How to save the eq ?
Tremendo pedal
Y sobre todo el hermoso Color Purpura 💜
Me encanta y demasiado
Aunque no incluye Diezel
Pero creo que con el IR
Si se le puede agregar.
De cualquier manera
Tal vez me haga de este mas adelante.
Me voy por el orange Cab
(Aunque es triste que el orange no sea Purple) >.
Awesome pedal n great review!
Excellent ! ! !
Holy moly.ive got to get me one of these bad boys
I'm seriously impressed with this pedal
Question, so each 1-7 has a clean setting and dirty setting by stomping silver button to switch??? nice licks by the way!
Hi Brett, thank you, great video, it sounds really good. Is it analog or digital?
Digital 300mA Current Draw. Sounds Amazing . . . and for $69.00 U.S.A. - it may be my gift to me this Holiday Season ???
@@michael_caz_nyc Thank you!
so, if i install on my pedal board, di to desk achievable and it sounds pretty good too. but for gigs where i drag the amp along, can it be bypassed? thinking of something like this for my new board, and probably before a stereo delay for stereo out to desk or mono to amp.
Sound great for it price
Wow
I'm thinking of buying this pedal to use straight in line on P.A`s/mixers when I don't want to take my amp.
My question is if I will really miss a cabinet simulator (I.R) better than the fixed one in Flamma, because we have the Mooer Preamp x2 pedal (but it's more expensive. In Brazil it's a good difference).
At the moment I'm still thinking about buying the Flamma and if I feel the need, get some IR pedal to simulate speakers.
Great review!
Can thi pedal be used at the end of the pedal chain, using its cab simulation, straight into a DI boX and to the PA? And Could it be used live in quite wide venues too? Thank you for your advice.
Yes, although you’d want to put your modulation pedals like delay and reverb after it, so you wouldn’t necessarily put it at the end of your signal chain. Think of it like your real amps. Put your drive pedals and such first in line, then this pedal, then your modulations last and go out to the PA. Use a DI box last if you need to go XLR out to the board.
Hi friend, I saw that this pedal saves the configuration of each preamp. Two questions: Are they automatically saved after the pedal is turned off? And does he have the ability to save the 7 options or just a preamp?
that lick at 3:33 sweet
In your opinion witch sounds better, the actual be-od into a clean channel, or this pre amp version. I got a BE-OD going into the clean channel on my Katana, and now I am intrigued by this being able to switch between a plexi drive, and the BE-OD.
Excellent.
Hey Brett we’re would you place this on your pedal board if I was to use it. After over drives before delays and reverb ?
Great video as always. I wonder if you can have different settings on the controls when you switch between clean and dirty? In other words, what ever tone settings are saved for a certain preset are shared between clean and distorted? This would be great to know. I thank in advance the individual that will provide the answer.
Yes it stores your settings for each amp and channel.
Brett, can you use this before a regular amp? Or, do I use it in front of time-based effects into the Effects Return (Pwr In) jack of my amp. Awesome playing!
yes you can use it just turn off the cab simulations and flat eq the amplifier youre using. Or simply put it into the effects loop acting as preamp.
Hi, do you connect flamma before a stomp delay and than in direct recording?
Do you recommend to plug headphones directly into this pedal? I am looking for a good practice solution.
I’m interested but is this enough to be at end of my pedal chain, ala real amp? Or do I need to purchase another IR loader? Got limited budget so have to think 😆
BOOM! Second.
Why do I hear that it is pretty noisy in other reviews?
very cool!
So would this pedal work in front of a deluxe reverb tone master set edge of breakup?
Muito bom, very good
Sounded way better w/o tube screamer
Hello sir.. is it include cabinet simulation??
Nice demo. I have a question, is the fs06 better in the loop of an amp or into the input? Thanks in advance 👍
Def would be better until the return, otherwise you'd be doubling up on preamp.
What's the main advantage of using a PreAmp instead of just a regular OD or Distortion? Ive never used a Preamp before
Regular over drive pedal has one sound. Clean and dirty. This has amp modeling
Wow!!!
is that plugged into your recording inter face ?
Is this direct to interface or you have a cab sim?
Is this pedal have IR loader?
Amazing pedal
can u use it for bass?
Burgs does this pedal require a direct box to be used as well since it doesn’t have an XLR output?
No, if you use it with the cab sim you can just use the regular output into a board
@@ayeapprove thank you very much. Appreciate it. Got this ordered and on the way.
Will it Nuno?
Will it Vai?
Are you conected to an amp or computer.
Iam sold getting one
Sounds really great for the price! What bout the Cab Sim? Is it the same for all models?
While I don't have actual clarification for this, my ears suggest different cab sims to suit each model. I've just received permission to make a video showing the FS06 with third party IR's so that will come soon too.
@@BrettKingman so, this current demo is using the pedal direct to the interface?
@@BrettKingman Hi, Brett. Thanks for the demo. But the question remains. How did you plug in the pedal? direct to the interface? In loop? To the amp? Thank you in advance
does it have cons?
Hey Brett, how would you compare it to tech 21 direct solutions?
The Tech 21 gear is no slouch but it has a different, analog-based, approach. This guy uses specific 'models' of amp/cabs. The Tech 21 stuff takes one generic type and offers linear control of it from clean to mean. Both types are pretty cool, I think. Just depends what you need.
have someone tried a fuzzface before it?
Might have missed it, but are you running into an external cab sim? The info I could find said the Footswitch LED will blink when the built in cab sim is ON, so it appears cab sim is off in your demo?
The save button is the one that blinks when the built-in cabinet section is engaged
@@KaiDown oh ok. That’s a bit confusing because the manual explicitly says the Footswitch LED is what would blink.
For me some of the modes doesn’t seems to have the character of the real amps. Maybe because of the cab sim which is obscure. I would like to hear them with IRs.
I know what you mean ... they all sound good, but they don't really resemble the amps they are emulating. They all sound the same to me.
Hey Brett, great video! Can I put this in the fox loop of my aging hd500x instead of it’s old preamps...not ready to give this board up just yet. Thanks
Thanks! I've never experienced the HD500x so I couldn't say for sure, but if you're able to defeat its amp and cab sims, and also route the FX loop post drives and phasers (optional) and pre reverbs and delays, you should be good to go.
Hello, good sound, can I use It with headphones?
$70?? From where?? They're a lot more as far as i can see...
