IF IT DOESN'T INITIALLY WORK FOR YOU: First thing I would try is going to task manager and ending any background things the epic games launcher is doing. I was having trouble, but once I did this, it worked flawlessly.
I had a problem with Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. I couldn't progress a certain part of the game with keyboard and mouse, so I had to purchase a controller just to continue playing this game. This just helped me out with Fallout 3 through Epic Game Launcher! The controller settings were so sensitive that it was skipping down in menus by two options. This fixed that and it only moves down 1 option at a time! Thank you!
This is the only way I found that allows you to get the steam overlay, the controller support AND the online function of the games so that I can play with friends. Thank you ❤

Quick comment on this: certain games (like Dying Light) at least for DualSense need an additional step since the big picture Steam mode was revamped. In the controller tab of steam big picture settings: Scroll down to “Non-game controller layout” section and click on desktop keyboard layout. Should take you to a screen where there are two options: desktop keybinds-disabled Desktop keybinds-desktop layout (or similar name) Click into the second one as the “disabled” is automatically selected. It’ll take you to a keybind screen where your keyboards keys are bound to remote buttons Click apply layout Now your golden and it’ll work when going to epic launcher through steam

If this guy method still fail, use mine. After closing the big picture,make sure you do not click on launch epic launcher inside steam. Press CTRL+shift+Esc, search for running background Epic launcher then end the task. Then try to launch Epic launcher through steam again. Tadaaa. Ultra workk..

I'm going crazy LOL I got the Free game DeadByDaylight through Epic Games current sale and everything worked except when the game finally launched the controller no longer works for some reason. @@elgoliat3105 its a bit long but trust me its easy : 1) u have to download « steam » and create an account 2) then you have to located and click on the lower left on ur screen in the main menu something like «add game », then add a non game steam, then you have to locate the folder dbd, then again dbd, then find binaries, then egs, thenu select and add the name « dbd-egs-shipping » 3) when you found the folder, you have to click on add selection. 4) next to ur name in the main menu on steam, there will be a rectangle named big picture, just click on it, then use ur controller (wireless or not) 5) try to launch dbd and normally it should work, if not (like me) u have to adjust the settings. Voila thats it, it took me like 30 min but in the end, its working, if u have questions, dont hesitate.
Tested and this method works perfectly. I was trying to run Shadow of Tomb raider that i got free from epic but my MOGA controller was not working. I followed this method and its working now. It didnt work for me in generic mode but worked perfectly on Forced on. Thanks so much for your help.
Note: if you are trying this for fortnite, then this is not needed, there is an option for keyboard/mouse settings called "ignore gamepad input" Disable that and it should work with controller

I ran by all the procedures to get my controller to work a second time and it just didn't for some reason. I don't know if an update in Steam or Epic Games disabled it but I haven't been able to play with that controller since.
for fortnite you don't need this method but you can check the descriptions, there are some methods for fortnite that might help, if not i don't really know of other methods

This worked, it's a bit outdated in terms of the UI it references but the principal is still a great fix for issues like mine (the left stick was so sensitive in epic games it would skip menu options by two at a time lol) but yah, launching the epic launcher through steam like you would a non-steam game and then launching the game there with the steam overlay and controller override turned on fixed it. Hurray, thanks for posting this.
Could use the Sticks only but not the Buttons on a Switch controller in Red Dead Redemtpion 2, your solution worked perfectly fine for me, thanks mate =)

for fortnite by right you do not need to use this trick, however you can check the descriptions there is a part about fortnite that u can try. if it still doesn't work i'm out of ideas
Cant u just use the console (Dev Built in Game Default) like console? Or does it Randomly place the button actions and u still have to change it for every game?

Couldn't use the Switch Pro Controller by just adding Nioh from Epic to Steam. But adding Epic Launcher to Steam solved it.
This is the only way I found that allows you to get the steam overlay, the controller support AND the online function of the games so that I can play with friends.

This worked, it's a bit outdated in terms of the UI it references but the principal is still a great fix for issues like mine (the left stick was so sensitive in epic games it would skip menu options by two at a time lol) but yah, launching the epic launcher through steam like you would a non-steam game and then launching the game there with the steam overlay and controller override turned on fixed it. Hurray, thanks for posting this.

Do u have any idea why this isn't working? Hate to be a hastle but i followed all your steps and steam said it had the controller configuration but it isn't working on my game (fortnite)/ Do u have any ideas on why this is happening?
for fortnite by right you do not need to use this trick, however you can check the descriptions there is a part about fortnite that u can try. if it still doesn't work i'm out of ideas
