Some of these places I've not heard of. Great recommendation. The reason they are less visited by both locals and even less so by foreigners, is that they are not that accessible. China is so big that some ancient towns and cities that even locals may not have heard of. I've become weary of watching the same touristy ancient towns that people have vlogged and continue to do so. it's like being viral makes it even more viral, with more people visiting those places, and then in time, it became too overcrowded and touristy, and lose the tranquility it once had.
Love it. plz do post more videos like these. It’s really nice to watch (as a Chinese who unfortunately didn’t got the chance to visit a lot of places in China before leaving for studying abroad😢
Seriously a hidden gem of a RUclips channel. Truly my go to Channel for well thought out and level headed China related videos ever since Serpentza and Laowhy86's content quality went in the shitter. Keep it up!
I have never heard of some of these towns as a Chinese. 8:30 The Yongtai Fortress really looks like an ancient city from history textbook. But most ancient city walls were made of bricks instead of clay. You can even see the shape of city moat at 8:33.
If you dont want to drive and public transportation is not convenient, just use Didi or any number of ride hailing. They are super cheap and very accessible.
Good video Eric. About Yaoli Village, you suggested that people stay the night there… have you checked to see if there are any places there that would accept foreigners, as many of these small towns/villages in China don’t accept non-Chinese guests….
For me, it's okay that buildings are reconstructed as long as it stays true to its original form. All towns are authentic because it's built by the Chinese people in their own architectural style. P.S. You forgot to mention Pingyao!
Totally agree 👍 he complains popular places touristy and spoiled, but then he goes online to tell people go to less known places in China to eventually makes these less known towns becoming touristy and spoiled.
Why do the Chinese have to use Zionist brands like Google and X and Instagram? Do they use WeChat, Douyin, Bilibili, Youku, Weibo, QQ, Baidu and other Chinese social media in USA or Japan? What makes you think they aren’t behind a wall themselves??
Thanks for the top 5 and how to get there, really help us who want something out of the box, hope we are as lucky as you to visit those places.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I fell in love with Shaxi right away

I stayed there (just outside the village technically but just walked to it) so I suppose they take at least one laowai at one place there

Chinese Government has the new rule (2024} that all commercial accommodation must not discriminate foreigners.

Excellent list. Hope you don't spoil these towns by bringing hordes of tourists.
Luckily no one watches my videos :)

But you can’t use google in China sir, is banned along with RUclips 😂
I'm in China and using a VPN. Relax, you are not a criminal and no one will arrest you.
VPN
they were not banned, they withdrew from China, in face of terms far less strict than what Tiktok is dealing with rn
Dude. Wake up and stop believing those fake news. Yoo toop withdrew from China 🇨🇳 it was not banned
