    How big where the plackys zmans you were using there mate? Tried to find another ppb plastic. I find that turtleback worms are amazing but I got through 5 packs a session.

    What are the rods you are using in this vid? You reckon a miller rods grub freak is powerful enought to drill a snapper?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      The grub freak is capable of catching a snapper but more designed for flicking lightly weighted soft plastics for bream. The vibe freak or XLFC are excellent choice for snapper. I was using a Shimano Poison Adrena and a Loomis.

    You should do how to catch silver perch on soft plastics

    • @fishingmad

      I've done a few plastics vids in the past on estuary perch, reddies and yellowbelly. We will continue to do more of that in the coming months especially during the warmer weather.

    Another great vid, gotta love the snapper action.
    How do you find all of your good fishing spots, i find it hard to find a spot near me that's worth going to

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      I've spent 20 years travelling to hundreds of different locations, studying fish movements, water temperatures and my own historical data to map out year by year where different species of fish will be at different times of the year. This time of year snapper come in through the heads close into our shallow reefs. Its like clockwork, so i study and follow this. Then i just let the wind direction and water temp work out the areas I'm going to fish and I study all the mapping data looking for places to fish. Trying to get weekly content for years requires this to catch consistently. We have got some really helpful info on this in the FishingMad members area which helps to get you into productive areas. Let us know which area your from and i can provide some suggestions

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      Strange Mordi is usually really good for snapper. If possible try fishing evenings to sunset or early sunrise this time of year i get more catches during those bite windows. Soon they will be a lot more wide spread and through out the day

    great video... only one question: you don't use to retreive your lures, only cast and leave it on the bottom?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад +1

      Yeah I hop them off the bottom slowly, that day there was a small amount of swell which was enough to keep the plastics moving up and down.

    Great video. I've noticed you lose a lot of fish however. It's because you don't have enough drag set. Increase your drag setting for improved hook up and catch rates.

    I have been looking for a different plastic also. I have been getting some very good fish with 4” gulp/ Berkeley minnows in new penny colour. Trouble is they are getting as scarce as turtleback worms.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад +1

      Yeah i agree completely. Ive been buying so many turtlebacks because there durability isn't the greatest. I used a few other berkley soft plastics and keitech soft plastics the other day and had a ripoping session, they look amazing but there not durable at all. We went through about 5 packets in our session, so that's why I was keen to give the old zmans a crack on the snapper again. I caught 20 salmon on the one plastic last week so that was cool

    • @frednurks8528
      @frednurks8528 Год назад +1

      @@fishingmad I don’t know about you but since I first used the 4” turtle backs years ago, compared to the ones produced now I think the manufacturing has gone down hill. They are no where the same quality in appearance, uniformity in length . Swim action is hit and miss also. The 7” worms are far better but too big, in my opinion.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад +1

      Yeah I would agree with that. The 4 inch tails are often a bit warped and swimming action not quite what they used to be. Still bloody successful though but I do agree with your comment.

    • @mbnz0174
      @mbnz0174 Год назад +1

      It's the other way around here in NZ. We only get a couple of StreakZ colours. I'm not convinced on the Z-Man scent. Just seems to be applied to the outside of the soft plastic rather than actually infused. Sticky, nasty stuff 😂 I wonder if it's more about taking on Gulp on the marketing front rather than actual effectiveness.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      Yeah I think you might be right. In all the Zman vids they show them smothering the plastics in Procure scent, so id say the ones pre-scented might not be that effective.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      Yeah it was really strange I had a few others with me and they didn't get into the bite. It happens sometimes, both those guys are good anglers who catch their fair share of fish. Happens a lot when whiting fishing sometimes, one side of the boat gets all the bites.
