How big where the plackys zmans you were using there mate? Tried to find another ppb plastic. I find that turtleback worms are amazing but I got through 5 packs a session.
The grub freak is capable of catching a snapper but more designed for flicking lightly weighted soft plastics for bream. The vibe freak or XLFC are excellent choice for snapper. I was using a Shimano Poison Adrena and a Loomis.
I've done a few plastics vids in the past on estuary perch, reddies and yellowbelly. We will continue to do more of that in the coming months especially during the warmer weather.
Another great vid, gotta love the snapper action. How do you find all of your good fishing spots, i find it hard to find a spot near me that's worth going to
I've spent 20 years travelling to hundreds of different locations, studying fish movements, water temperatures and my own historical data to map out year by year where different species of fish will be at different times of the year. This time of year snapper come in through the heads close into our shallow reefs. Its like clockwork, so i study and follow this. Then i just let the wind direction and water temp work out the areas I'm going to fish and I study all the mapping data looking for places to fish. Trying to get weekly content for years requires this to catch consistently. We have got some really helpful info on this in the FishingMad members area which helps to get you into productive areas. Let us know which area your from and i can provide some suggestions
Looks like i need to start busting out my notebook whenever i fish. I'm from around deer park, i've gave brimbank park a try a few times but no luck yet.@@fishingmad
WOW, How good was that! Loving the content mate they are getting better and better. What are your favourite places to fish around the south east suburbs? I’m trying to get some fish for my videos. Cheers Alan
Thanks matey !!! South East suburbs would be very hard to beat black rock and ricketts they continually produce snapper in good number but it can get very busy
Strange Mordi is usually really good for snapper. If possible try fishing evenings to sunset or early sunrise this time of year i get more catches during those bite windows. Soon they will be a lot more wide spread and through out the day
@@fishingmad Yeah, I’ve seen people catch heaps of salmon there too. This weekend I’m going camping at Seymour at the Goulburn and it’s super flooded so it will be interesting seeing how that goes.
Great video. I've noticed you lose a lot of fish however. It's because you don't have enough drag set. Increase your drag setting for improved hook up and catch rates.
Yeah they are awesome plastics, ive used them for many years in opening night and nuc chicken colour. Caught heaps of fish with them. And like all the zman stuff your lucky if you go through one plastic in most sessions there super durable
I have been looking for a different plastic also. I have been getting some very good fish with 4” gulp/ Berkeley minnows in new penny colour. Trouble is they are getting as scarce as turtleback worms.
Yeah i agree completely. Ive been buying so many turtlebacks because there durability isn't the greatest. I used a few other berkley soft plastics and keitech soft plastics the other day and had a ripoping session, they look amazing but there not durable at all. We went through about 5 packets in our session, so that's why I was keen to give the old zmans a crack on the snapper again. I caught 20 salmon on the one plastic last week so that was cool
@@fishingmad I don’t know about you but since I first used the 4” turtle backs years ago, compared to the ones produced now I think the manufacturing has gone down hill. They are no where the same quality in appearance, uniformity in length . Swim action is hit and miss also. The 7” worms are far better but too big, in my opinion.
Yeah I would agree with that. The 4 inch tails are often a bit warped and swimming action not quite what they used to be. Still bloody successful though but I do agree with your comment.
It's the other way around here in NZ. We only get a couple of StreakZ colours. I'm not convinced on the Z-Man scent. Just seems to be applied to the outside of the soft plastic rather than actually infused. Sticky, nasty stuff 😂 I wonder if it's more about taking on Gulp on the marketing front rather than actual effectiveness.
Yeah I think you might be right. In all the Zman vids they show them smothering the plastics in Procure scent, so id say the ones pre-scented might not be that effective.
Yeah it was really strange I had a few others with me and they didn't get into the bite. It happens sometimes, both those guys are good anglers who catch their fair share of fish. Happens a lot when whiting fishing sometimes, one side of the boat gets all the bites.
Good stuff, Alan! 👍
I cant wait to get into some Snapper myself. 🎣😃
Nice one Alan, that's good fun, happy for you 😃🤙🤙🤙
Thanks 👍
Great episode Alan. Better put in my order for Zman Streakz, cause they'll be hard to get soon. Love the Zmans though for their durability
LOL 100%, at least you wont have to buy too many as they are super durable.
Only watched the first 30 seconds but what a vibe! Great filmmaking regardless of the topic
Thank you !!
Feels like a little step up in production values for sure.
Has more of an episodic TV show vibe.
Amazing vid Alan
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it
How big where the plackys zmans you were using there mate? Tried to find another ppb plastic. I find that turtleback worms are amazing but I got through 5 packs a session.
4 inch, perfect size for PPB. Ive been using a variety of colours which work well opening night, mood ring, nuc chicken etc
Fantastic, thanks
Thanks !!
Very inspiring looking forward to getting on the kayak! Good stuff alan. ? What size reels were you using. Thanks
Thanks !! Yeah kayak fishing is awesome. I was using a 2500 size reel and a 300 size reel. Hope that helps.
What are the rods you are using in this vid? You reckon a miller rods grub freak is powerful enought to drill a snapper?
The grub freak is capable of catching a snapper but more designed for flicking lightly weighted soft plastics for bream. The vibe freak or XLFC are excellent choice for snapper. I was using a Shimano Poison Adrena and a Loomis.
Hey mate what size jig head/ hook size are you using for the streaks? are they also 3 inch?
I was using a 1/8 in size 3-0. As far as I know there only available in 4 and 5 inch sizes
You should do how to catch silver perch on soft plastics
I've done a few plastics vids in the past on estuary perch, reddies and yellowbelly. We will continue to do more of that in the coming months especially during the warmer weather.

Might be worth trying spots like the Warmies, and jetties on port melb there only 15 minutes from deer park
I'll be sure to, is there any specific time that is good for the warmies or just whenever?@@fishingmad

great video... only one question: you don't use to retreive your lures, only cast and leave it on the bottom?
Yeah I hop them off the bottom slowly, that day there was a small amount of swell which was enough to keep the plastics moving up and down.
@@fishingmad great fishing day and great youtube channel
Great video. I've noticed you lose a lot of fish however. It's because you don't have enough drag set. Increase your drag setting for improved hook up and catch rates.
Oh no the secret is out, this is the best plastic I've ever used yet this is the first video I've ever seen of someone else using it...
Yeah they are awesome plastics, ive used them for many years in opening night and nuc chicken colour. Caught heaps of fish with them. And like all the zman stuff your lucky if you go through one plastic in most sessions there super durable
Its my go to lure when I head up to north qld. Barra, jacks, sooty grunter, jungle perch, seriously everything loves them@@fishingmad
Yeah I had a killer session the following day with them on the salmon, snook, and trevally too
Fantastic 👍🏻
Braid and leader size ?
I was using 14lb braid and 1 rod length 12 lb fluoro im pretty sure. Thanks

What depth were you fishing please?
4 meters deep
Fun fact: Z-Man StreakZ Curly TailZ are the same design as the Z-Man Curly TailZ, but without the "infused" scent.
Ahh nice one I like it. I've always found it hard to get the ones infused with scent so ill have a better look next time. Thanks I appreciate it.

What size rods and reels you using ?
2-5 kg rods paired with 2500 size reels. Prob not a bad idea to fish a tad heavier as i did lose a couple of fish
What weight set up are you running
Running 1/8 3-0 jig heads. hope that helps
Braid and leader size?
Yep shit hooks lol assist or circle. On split ring system that's the jig head and liquid steel don't miss then or drop a fish.
Why aren't you mates catching anything.
Yeah it was really strange I had a few others with me and they didn't get into the bite. It happens sometimes, both those guys are good anglers who catch their fair share of fish. Happens a lot when whiting fishing sometimes, one side of the boat gets all the bites.
