- This is the last 737 landing for United Airlines as shot from seat 14F. The flight was from LAX to SFO. Congrats to Captain Russo and I wish him well on his retirement!
I love the 737 classics! Nothing like that whine the flaps make!
I remember in 2001 flying the 737 from DEN to STL in August 2001. So many UA 737s back then....who would've imagined they'd all be retired in less than a decade. Definitely another time and another place back then....especially given what happened less than a month later.
United currently has many 737s in their fleet but they are all the newer NG models. Only the older style 737s were retired from United. Many went on to be scraped or parted out while most were re sold over seas or to cargo airlines. After United's merger with Continental, they reacquired many that are still being phased out. The 737 is the best airplane in the world :)
I loved the Guppy very much, and was very upset I couldn't make at least 1 of the last flight legs. Thanks for this video.
Great video, the vid sets a strange mood of sadness and closure, with the sunset and the errie rumble of the engines, unlike many other videos where they play some stupid music in the background, I think you did a very good job of setting the mood.
Most pilots retiring are happy about it and ready to enjoy life with their families.
@totesen ... me too !! .... I Love the see the flaps when they Land and the reverse flaps pop up !!!
@United737522 - I'm with you....Any airline can stink from time to time, but I really enjoy flying on United. Sometimes the fairs are a little steeper, but you get what you pay for. As a pilot, I appreciate the opportunity to listen in on the ATC (a United exclusive) and I respect United's INCREDIBLE safety record. Excellent airline - no doubt about it.
nice landing Captain Russo.
I think he means the last Boeing 737-200 landing. United Airlines still operates B737's now in 2014.
Probably the last 737-300 series. You know what he means...
iPixel The description states Captain Russo is retired and this was his last flight.
iPixel That's in part due to Continental-United merger. United didn't have anymore 737s prior to the merger.
United retired the 737 series before their merger with Continental. Then when the two airlines merged, the 737 series came back “Guess who’s back bitches?!” Lol
I've flown United over 365,000 miles in the last 4 years. Yes, they have their moments where they have failed miserably. However, I am really happy with the service I've received and the product they provide. I encourage you to give them a try and educate yourself before traveling on what to expect. Flying can be a great experience if planned properly.
i love the sound of flaps extending... rrruuurrr..
i love the sfo approach to runway 28r and 28l or somthin like that
Have a great retirement Captain Russo.
Poor captain he most of been really sad to complete his last flight, but everyday there is a new pilot becoming a veteran so all of those who ritire NICE JOB ;) ( I wanna be a pilot)
Awesome!
@ShinSo606 CFM sound, The only P&W the 737 used is on the 737-200/100 And the way you can tell this is not one of em is the tail pipe of the engine is not in your face.
Nice final landing, Bob, for you and the UAL 737-300. You greased her in!
Im going to miss the 737
Salute...
That's so cool!
nice video ! i love the announcement :)
cool video! now you are going to have a lot of B737's under united due to the merger with continental
Nice Video ! :)
@bluepanther1011 its set up that way to move those heavy aircraft between hubs for the next long flight. UAL has both KSFO and KLAX as hubs so they will send those big aircraft on that short of a flight to move the aircraft between hubs. Say a 74 lands in LAX from Australia then needs to depart SFO to head to ORD to connect to London. They can't taxi the whole way between airports ;)
please step by and say Goodbye to the captine :( :( :( , thats really sad .
Alright, I just landed it for the last time... It think I'll leave the spoilers up forever lol.
if i was that pilot, i would just buy a bunch of tickets to nowere after the retirment just for the joy of flying :)
@bluepanther1011 Its called repositioning. Usually its done because later during the day that 744 is scheduled to do a long haul like SFO - RJAA or SFO-EGLL
I like how everyone claps :)
@SEAFREAK16 slowly integrating NG 737s? We have over 150 NGs and what, 37 classics? Most of our NG acquisitions weren't to replace classics, but to increase the size of the fleet. a -900 is not a replacement for a -500 or -300.
Fairwell captain Russo
@bluepanther1011 I think they fly 747/777s and bigger jets to short flights like ORD-SFO, SFO-LAX, LAX-DEN and etc because they need the A/C at the other airport to be used for international flights. For example, I'm flying on UA's 777 from DEN to ORD this summer, a 2 hour flight, the 777 is probably going to be used for TATL flights from ORD that's why they fly it to ORD :)
@puresnowy907 don't worry, united does'nt prake guitars. that was the baggage handlers
the 737 is due to return to the United fleet after the merger with Continental
Continental is great, and so is United.
Great idea merging them. What will the fleet be like?
@cubsrule2040 Now its down to United, Delta, American, and Southwest as the major players in the US. I see Southwest being bought out about 10 years from now.
the 737 classics, Don't have winglets,
@Trevorpilot123 agreed, i miss it.
@bluepanther1011 Number one, a B747 can not takeoff from San Diego and second, Continental and United have just merged meaning they will have B737-300, 400, 500, 700, 800, 900ER, B747, B757, B767, B777, B787, AIRBUS A319, A320, A350 and much more. And they are now the BIGGEST AIRLINE IN THE WORLD!!!
ya I'm going to miss the good ole guppys
do you know who bought this fleet from united i like them great video
@SenorSpode
That 100% is a 300. United never operated the 400 series, they only had the 200, 300, and 500. I can tell their difference by looking at the fuselage of the aircraft. The 300 does look a bit smaller The 500 is and looks alot wider and has a higher height then the 300. The 400 is longer then the 300 but the same height. If you look online or go to the airport and and are luck enough to find one you might be able to see the difference then.
Little did they know that once again they would be flying the 737 after the merger...
Pratt&Whitney's sound..
@bluepanther1011 it sounds stupid but airlines do it for repositioning of aircrafts... there are 777 flights for AA from DFW-ORD all the time or MIA-DFW...
cant wait until i fly on the united airlines at night
@enetie Ever heard of the Cessna 152? I've heard it's a sports plane for recreational flying!
@wizzair1313 truly sad!! :( lets cry!
I strongly believe this is B737-200.
@bluepanther1011 The airlines do that for repositioning the plane for long flights
@MrEliben I only saw one, and it was clearly United Airlines.
Wish I could have made the trip!
@krnv4 actuly they have winglets now
@fsxcptain nope when coninental and united merge, they will be the biggest by far
@bluepanther1011 no im just saying if some people are complaing now im not just saying u i mean youre not really complaing but since theyve merged im just saying now they will have smaller planes to commute to lax and smaall flights!!! :)
@WorldAirwaysMD11 how can you tell in the video you only see the wing
@SenorSpode Thanks hahahaha =)
@darielconti Yep!
@Iamfukenripped So to speak, he disobeyed the rules.
@bluepanther1011 they'll have the A320's do it
I'm sure he is still flying in General Aviation now.
what a landing is that san francisco california
is it the plane's last flight too?
@corvetteguy1980 Yep
@Coolplistic most furloughed, some now fly other aircraft.
@enetie no more flying as a pilot, maybe as a passenger
@cubsrule2040 becuase it wouldnt be fair to contenental and then people would say so why dont they do the opposite, well all the emploies for united and continental agreed united is a stronger name.
United/Continental, will have the 787 later on because it isn't built jet!!!
was this a -500
What's the airports name?
@P40BH Thats neither of them, its a 300.
why not?
is this a 737-500 or 200
@patreko1
737-300
the united brand is far more powerful.
@SenorSpode no they dont they use 300s and 500s
757-500
where are the airport fire trucks?
hahahahahahahaha oops I actually meant to put that in the search box....I'm an idiot...disregard that
well i meant for united
@bluepanther1011 It would be unprofitable if it were wasteful!
Is SFO San Francisco?
Yes.
Um.... hahaha thats not the last united 737 flight i saw one last month.
is it the last 737 flight for you?
not me...mechanicals, weight restrictions, equipment substitutions, etc etc i say good riddance.
thats a 737
@bluepanther1011 it sounds stupid but airlines do it for repositioning of aircrafts... there are 777 flights for AA from DFW-ORD all the time or MIA-DFW...
