- Terry is back at home on leave. He spends the day with another cadet, they are both in uniform and are with two girls in swinging sixties short dresses. We see them; Rowing in Regents Park, on rides and walking around at Battersea fun fair, running for and missing their train back to Portsmouth.
They are put on a charge and confined to their quarters. Terry has a flashback montage of all the things he has so far done (see part 1). Terry in naval uniform and kit bag joins his first ship. We see him in his cramped quarters, and eating in the canteen.
Excellent shots of the ship at sea and Terry performing his duties. Good shot of a helicopter taking off from the ship. The ship approaching Gibraltar.
Terry and his bikini clad girl friend go swimming, they romp in the water. Back at H.Q. the cadets are instructed about torpedoes. We see them making an exit escape dive in a large tank. Terry now joins a submarine, he wanders around below deck and takes his watch in front of lots of dials. Travelling shot from sub at sea.

I joined the Royal navy at HMS Ganges aged 15 on 16th September 1970, by 3.30 that afternoon I'd signed on for 12 years and by 3.45 id signed the official secrets act. That's all I want to say about it.
Wonderful period to be young and alive!
OH yes finished my apprenticeship in 1969 as a sparks £20 a week , brought our first bungalow . New for £4250 in 1972 , Last wages 44 years later £1,250 a week , Always a fully paid up member of the SELF PRESERVANTION PARTY and still have that tune as the ring tone on my mobile today . 😉
Electrician?
How long was your apprenticeship?
I’m a spark in the states.
Is your pension nice?
a part two... excellent ! this would have made a great little series, soldier soldier.... nah, sailor sailor !
Bloody ell..sandy Richardson
People who were in the Navy love nothing more than to tell you they were in the Navy.
A real muscle bosun, that lad..
Ha ha, I thought this was great. Most of us back then left school at 15 and either went into the building trade or joined the forces. 2 of my brothers joined up and the other 3 of us went into the building trade. Great days. 👍👍
one of the best videos you have done ii my opinion great work
Imagine wearing that uniform around the park , you'd get started on by the pc brigade or worse
Great ....times
Was this intended as as recruitment video?
the music is very cool
Well it was all going great then he joined a sub, That's the end of the runs ashore.
Published 1965 by the Imperial War Museum.
Would be great if I could find the rest of the film.
Part 1 is definitely on here. This is part 2. Idk if there’s supposed to be a part 3
0:47 Ah yes, our young tars ashore with a couple of 'bints' and the hope of a furtive fumble in the park! The music is awesome!
One of those cadets was the late Roger Tonge, Sandy in Crossroads.
Oh yeah
That's the life, 1960's style. See the world, good grub, dolly birds everywhere. Wonder why my mate bought himself out?
He didnt like being in the barrel.
Yes. Probably because an all-male environment might be conducive to homosexuality. You know the old saying - 'Join the Navy . . . and feel a Man'.
@@user-wp8vy8le3y It's not a prison. They're allowed to meet women.
He wanted a life
Roger Tonge, or Sandy Richardson.
Is this an actual film???? I wanna see it all 😊
He was in Crossroads! Thought I recognised him.
Aye it was before his wheelchair antics😄
I knew I knew him. Of course Thank you
@@Bigbawz364 hardly antics, he developed Hodgkin’s lymphoma and they let him play the part in his wheelchair, poor sod was dead at 35!
If you play the game right you’ll be at the Crossroads (Motel )
And die young.
So THAT'S where I've seen him before! Mind you, his accent is a dead giveaway!
good time to be a Jolly Jack Tar
is there another part to this please?
Sorry what country is this ?
Where is that High Street he is shown walking down? The bus is United Counties, so Wellingborough, Kettering, Bedford, Northampton?
I have a feeling its Luton.
1965. Roger Tonge a scrawny 19. Died 16 years later from Hodgkin's lymphoma (cancer). Suspect cause a high-carb, low-animal-food diet.
He looks about 12 years old.
and sounded like Donald Duck
It is a sad story. He was a talented and well liked actor but had a haematological disorder and he died at an early age. He was in Crossroads in the 1970s.
Drill holes all days....
In real life his brother would of said
Oh yeah thats what you'll be doing on the ship
Lol
would have said! not would of said.
@@colinwt would've... I mean,,, sounds like would of ..lol
That young lad looks about 12 year old 🤣🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧🇬🇧
What's eating that older brother?
Jealousy.
Just doing what most of the sailors did. The RN has a bad record of 16 year olds realizing they made a terrible mistake.
Hard to imagine this blokes probably dead or in an old peoples home now.
I'm same age as the guy who joined the navy. I'm not dead nor in an old folks home. I work two part time jobs enjoy my life and I put it all down to learning how to look after myself whilst I was in the navy for 22 years.
DON'T be stupid only plumbers go there , GOD MADE LIGHT ? SO HE INVENTED ELECTRICIANS 😉
It is a sad story. He was a talented and much liked actor but he had a chronic haematological disorder which affected his growth and he died young. He was famous as "Sandy" in Crossroads.
he died at about 30 !
Why is that child running round with grown women and working with men?
Cannon fodder
Where is the rest of the film? I was so enjoying it!
What many folks don't know is that Seaman Sandy caught syphilis following a visit to some whoehouse in Nigeria which rotted his brain and he died at the young age of 35 .
Roger Tonge did die tragically early at the age of 35 but he had Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Please don't spew such crap. The actor died in his thirties from an unfortunate illness. Please show some respect.
