On the Front Lines with the Taliban | Fault Lines

- In this episode of Fault Lines, we gain unprecedented access to report from the Taliban stronghold of Charkh District, just an hour outside the Afghan capital, Kabul.
Reporter Nagieb Khaja follows Taliban fighters as they launch an attack on an Afghan National Army (ANA) base, and investigates what the ANA are up against as foreign troops continue to withdraw.
Khaja follows a dawn raid as the Taliban pound the ANA base with rockets and machine guns, and he witnesses suicide attackers attempt to enter through the main gates. ISAF planes circle overhead, and Khaja is concerned that they will engage. He watches the Taliban deal with losing men and interviews a local Talib about what he does when he is not engaged in warfare.
Fault Lines also interviews Jack Keane, a retired US four-star general, and Kurt Volker, the former US ambassador to NATO (2008 to 2009), to get their analysis on the battle and what the future holds for Afghanistan.
On the Front Lines with the Taliban gives a rare look into the internal workings of the Taliban and illustrates some of the issues facing the Afghan National Army as the US withdraws its troops in 2014.

I admire the braveness of Taliban fighter, looking at there face, they are just ordinary people fighting against imperialist. These people have all the right to fight for their freedom.
Ve şuanda zafer kazandılar.
I wish everyone in this world was as truthful as you brother
yes
they won the war .
They are excellent fighters, natural ones...maybe not weapon experts, but good enough, to be feared by most elite forces in the world! (I would also humbly add, that we here in Serbia, once upon a time, performed a similar effort! Proud that was part of it.). Regards
This is really awesome journalism. He should be rewarded for his courage and bringing us the most unfiltered truth from the war zone.
“Last time I met with the Taliban I was kidnapped, I hope to never go through that again.”
*goes back to meet the taliban*
K dude.
That's exactly what i was thinking :)
he has got balls of steel
then how did you get escaped ?
you should learn from soviet union why their leave afganistan
@@travelgalaxy8291 the American government probably paid huge amount of money and freed some Taliban soldiers in Exchange
" No one is helping us, not even Pakistan. If we see Pakistanis forces we'll fight them too " maybe Pakistan had a worst investment ever or it's just the myth that Pakistan supports Taliban same as US supports democracy all around the world
@Lone Wolf since 2001 nato did not even manage to find an ounce of pakistans physical support to taliban. If pakistan really provided physical support to taliban why would they allow Nato supplies to travel through Pakistan, since Afghanistan has no port, Pakistan could have simply refused any assistance to those fighting against taliban
the afghan taliban and pakistani taliban hardly have any difference between them and they share almost everything including hiding spots and some of them are even relatives. Pakistan has ripped pakistani taliban to shreds and has lost an extremely large amount of lives in the fight against them, now you tell me how on earth is it possible for Pakistan to physically support afghan taliban since 2001 and nato still has no physical evidence to prove this ?
Indians try to make pakistan look evil for supposedly giving intel to some afghan taliban factions while all players in region, iran, russia and china are supporting taliban, 2 of which are former indian allies
lol taliban investment wasn't of Pakistan but of America itself .
that was American worst investment.
@@gmmrk35 very stupid analysis
And now they already took over Kabul and the whole Afghanistan.. alhamdulillah
Alhamdulillah
"Has a helicopter arrived?"
*"No, just tanks"*
Thank goodness it just tanks, now lets get back to work
The taliban even call hmvs and mraps tanks so not exactly sure thats real mbt's.
Talbain are terrified of the Apache helicopter and when they see one the stop fighting until it leaves
@@Teez_Omak Apache is a tough cookie to crack! They need something like stingers to shoot them down, then you'd see them standing right in front of them and shooting them down! Right now, there's no purpose in fighting Apache with AK-47 and rocket launchers!

much respect to the journalist you are crazy
couse he is a lion heart Afghan
Watching this in 2023 explains why the Taliban took over so quickly once US army left.
"We do other work like farming but mostly we do jihad" 😂

AŞAP Çølđy lol str8 up. They make more money growing poppy

@FPScanada well, you should thank NATO for this. In 2001, Talibans under Mullah Umer actually brought opium production to Zero.
Mark Light facts but what are the disputes between afghan army & taliban
For me, this is absolute gold! Getting into the field to show a side of the story North American media normally wouldn't cover, especially after being kidnapped once, takes serious scrote. Great report by a gutsy journalist.
Nagieb Khaja, thank you for your efforts. it is of most importance that the world can see conflicts from both sides of the story. stay safe and much gratitude
I probably would shit my pants if I hear that jet flying above me.
😂😂
this reporter is ludicrous brave
He'd be even braver if his name was John Smith or Bill Robertson
bus king biggot 😂
I don't understand how this journalist was able to physically walk with those giant testicles.. Lol..
Because he is one of them they kidnapped him but some how he escaped? Now he’s back with them filming “their” side? Somethings fishy
Brave? nah, they have a contract with terrorist groups to represent them bruh. They even allowed Taliban to open up an office in Doha xD
Brave journalist...This is real journalism

You guys are going to lose
No you are!
Balls of steel
So just to clarify, are the Taliban on the same "side" as ISIS. I know they are seperate groups but if they crossed paths with each other, would they cooperate or would there be fighting?
Those Taliban's be like returning from fields after work 😂😂😂
Not a lot to return to after they're in the sights of some MQ-9s

if the taliban is a monster you wouldn't even have the chance to ride a bike n still alive until now. media is spreading a great fitnah.
Excellent report. Surprised I haven't seen this yet.
u shouid visit the museum
Finally a new documentary about the taliban. Been a while. The situation there is very intresting to me.
Great Job right there mate!!!!!
Another quality documentary from a great channel.
This reporter is a hero of the modern age. That he's showing the Taliban's perspective does not mean that he supports them. He's risking his life to give us more informed perspectives on how the world works, and I am grateful.
This guy has balls of steel .
Respect to all journalists in war zones brave people, I applaud you all, 💕👏
I have huge respect for this reporter who put his life on the line just for this.
Love from India to all Afghan brother's🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
These are the same people the U.S funded during the Soviet war.
Silver Yup
millionfish animation wrong actually. the US backed the mujahideen against the Russian back in the 1970's the Taliban actually came to power around 96' due to their anger with the mujahideen.
Still doesn't change that he's wrong. But they are both bad groups.
you say they had issues with mujahdeen they were part of mujahdeen after victory war lords started to fight each other .pakistan was suporting hikmat yar wali and american were supportng shah masood (northern alliance)but out of no where a wave started group name taliban defeated both groups and that was the most peaceful area of whole aghan history .why taliban are still able to resist because civilians support them .infact civilians are talibans
I know journalists can choose not to go to these dangerous regions, but it's a credit to them that they're willing to risk their lives going to report from war zones. This guy could easily have been taken hostage and later beheaded. He gets my full respect.
A salute to this journalist for such bravery...
Great great story salute to you reporter
Of course Al Jazeera will know how to get in touch with Taliban haha
FireVortex720 so true- & so many people saying how brave the reporter is, id have thought a lot more of him had he got word out (even just a text message?) To warn that Taliban terrorists were about to launch an attack on ANA soldiers. ....or at very least showed ANY sign he felt uncomfortable being in full knowledge of the premeditated mass murder about to take place. Anyway, I guess the reason only Al-Jazeera ever get the calls from the likes of Taliban,Al-Qaeda, ISIS etc the terrorists know they can trust a news outlet funded by one of the world's largest terrorism funders -Qatar, that & the knowledge they're dealing with sympathiser "reporters".

Freedom and Justice? Yes! By illegally invading a country and bombing it's populace. That is what Democracy is, bunch of lies.

At least they won 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very great footage
A very brave man indeed. Thanks for bringing us a great piece of journalism. Now keep safe lol.
Ma Sha Allah
Its good that we're leaving but two of the front runners in the Afghan election are saying they will sign the agreement. hopefully the Taliban will take care of them like they did to several Afghan governors and politicians so we don't have to piss away any more money and lives in this Muslim country. Politicians in the West want to stay so they can use Afghanistan as a base to mess around with Pakistan, China and Russia. Binladen is dead and its time to move on.
It's time to crawl back with our tails between our legs, stupid politician and generals have massacred to many good british soldiers in this conflict
guess what 3 years later and they are still trying to beat taliban

Just got some Wendys, a baconator and small fry with a bottle of water. Should be pretty good, very hungry at the moment. Dare I say, starving?
Just took my first bite out of my baconator, very nice. Soothing my hunger. 8/10
I want one right now
+god Baconator sucks. Greasy pile of meat.
Bottle of water? C'mon. You need to get the Baconator combo with large fries and a large Coke. $11.05. I had that 2 days ago and it's great every time I have it. I have to give it a 9/10.

Salut the reporter ...he is brave man
Will never end
Lol at the way they stroll back into town like some rockstars while everyone else is scared shitless of them
They're not scared.
They are just observing and curious.
Returning from fields after work😂😂😂
Rockstars? They just got humiliated trying a half-assed attacked on an ANA base. They're like the handicapped morons whose only saving grace is that time is on their side.
U think Rockstarr r good humans shame on u today most of the Rockstars worhsip satan and r working for illuminati.
@Shahed Mohammad As I said, time was on their side. That, and the fact that a dementia-ridden corrupt politician was "elected" but doesn't have the mental faculties to use the restroom by himself, let-alone coordinate a sensible exit of a nation after 20 years.
My favourite part was when they all ran away and hid from the helicopter, when they realized its not armed they came out and declared that they won the battle =))
They need something like stingers to shoot them down! It'd be a game changer in this war!
They might not have won that battle but they definitely won the war
@@zakiahmed5235they didn’t win anything , how does American deciding to leave means they won ? You’re just as delusional as them thinking blowing themselves up means they will have everlasting riches on the “other side “ they couldn’t win a war with Americans if Americans had one hand tied behind there back
Great job. Big gamble to trust the Tali. "Yes we are farmers, we have trees and things"...
this is a great documentary. I think at this point after so many years of war, uneasy co-existance is the best i think the ANG and Taliban can have. Still better than never ending open total war.
Taliban what are thy fighting for...?
For their country, their freedom, their lives, their families, their friends, their children, their homes, their honor, their dignity and their faith
Those who fight for Allah have high morals and that is Taliban even having no high quality weapons
While those who trust weapons and have no hope of Allah they lose at the end i.e usa and Afghanistan army
Such a brave man

Subtitle's been altered for propagandic purposes
+Naz Smith It was not a base, Posta means a very small security check point which have maximum 6 to 10 soldiers.
Thanks for the translation! That explains a lot

I'm surprised they didn't offer salaat as-subh before the dawn raid on the base.
You ignore to mention that they (Taliban) were hiding inside a mosque when the plane came. Obviously the planes were not going to attack a mosque or when they are walking among civilians. You also ignored to mention any of Taliban's crime against Afghan civilians.
Well it's Al Jazzera. What do you expect? The same peole that are funding that TV station are funding the Taliban.

Air strikes are for cowards who can't fight on the ground like real men. Air attacks against people who have no air force are what cowards do. I'm happy North Korea has the balls and ability to stand against Caucasian militaries worldwide.

MashaAllah
only differnce between well trained ANA and Taliban is that ANA is doing its job for SALARY(90% MEN), while TALIBAN is doing it on the name of ALLAH(GOD).
The Taliban was formed in the early 1990s by an Afghan faction of mujahideen, Islamic fighters who had resisted the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan (1979-89) with the covert backing of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and its Pakistani counterpart, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate
So tell me brother who is greater in virtue?
Taliban means students they came into power after civil war as a reaction to corruption and child abuse,
Taliban leader mullah Omar was a madrasa teacher when one of his students was killed after being abused sexually by one of warlords in Afghanistan that was the time He began his campaign and after killing the warlord captured the weapons that he had more people joined Him and eventually took over the government of Kabul
@@USN1985dos and what about wite people ?
