1st thing that comes to mind kids and their toys. Nice to see old iron still getting used instead of rotting in some woods or scrap yard. Keep the videos coming
I enjoyed that very much sir, it was lovely to hear that old D2 engine working for a living and seeing her getting her claws dug in, and I noticed the blade cuts well..
Nice to see and HEAR the old machinery earning its keep. The only thing missing was a commentary on the scope of the project, more storage space for projects or perhaps a new building? Hope to see that new tractor rolling !
That’s a lovely and very capable little dozer! Thanks for taking the time to film your weeding. I’m going to start mowing weeds with my little Kubota tractor after I get something to eat.
Wee girl running like a charm, excellent rebuild plus Very good operator skills, using the ability and tools that u have to complete tasks with out stupid track spinning etc great video
Not much better than watching the D2 ( or almost any 'dozer ) at work is there? One of the better 15 plus minutes of video happiness watched! Thanks for showing us how it's done!
@@squatch253 To that guy you mentioned,..can you imagine having to live with him??? Talk about boring! You keep presenting what you do in videos, and I'l be here! Cheers, Brother!
Great video! This one kept you busy moving the tripod and camera around. Clearing a spot for a building to house your folks Kubota and your backhoe attachment? Those pallet forks work well moving logs around the yard. I would move 40-50 ft poplars a half mile to my place from the neighbors. Just have to find out where they balance. I would just lift them high enough to go through the cattle gates.
I must say you have the strangest vegetation in MN. Your fields grow rocks and in amongst the "weeds' you grow steel axles. A very strange land you live in. Typically we take care of weeds in Ontario Canada with whipper snippers. We have yet to break out a D2 to handle our weeds. HOWEVER delightful to see the Iron Mistress doing her thing. Also appreciate the fine restoration on the D2, none of this "Let's preserve the patina crap." As always thanks for posting!!
Ahh, burnable weeds. Good to see POp out to supervise what he'll get to cram in the heater in a week pr two. Sorry to hear about the 'M'. Thought it was running just fine but you never know. BUT it'll run again I wager. Keep the Kitty purring, Toby! Blessings, Yall!
@@squatch253 YOu and Pop will have to build a shop annex. I thought the 'M' was running like an electric motor but who knows what goes on in the internals. And God willing, I'll be right here!
What I love best is that not only does Squatch253 restore them great, he works them too. Doing what Cats are meant to do instead of just letting them be a "show piece". Great Job!!!!
I was beginning to worry that the Cats were going to become just little show tractors, nice to be wrong sometimes. That's the kind of yard work I could get into. Thanks for sharing
I've been doing other stuff on my computer while your D2 videos were playing in the background. I love the sound of diesels. Thanks for makin the videos!
Funny looking weeds, look like trees! Lol. Wen i first bought my house, i decided i wanted a vegetable garden. The garden was so over grown i hired a digger (excavator) and set to work and uncovered a large shed at rear of property! Never had a clue it was there! Cheers from kiwi land
I’m so happy for all the love you get in the comments. This section of the site be such pits. But not squatch! People are really learning to appreciate mans’ work again.
Everyone needs a weed puller like that ! Now that's the easy way to take out unwanted trees. ;) The old Iron Mistress got put through her paces. Maybe we'll see the new Kubota digging out that one leftover stump ? Thanks for your time & the video !
Are you familiar with the novel, BULLDOZER by Stephen W. Meander? The protagonist, Bill, with the help of a WWII veteran friend pulls a D-2 from the bottom of a logging pond where it had fallen through the ice, restores it to operation, and starts a bootstrap business excavating foundations, grading sites, plowing snow, clearing land, plowing and mowing fields, etc. He had to overcome resistance by established contractors, sabotage, banker cronyism, and other challenges. It was a very inspiring book. (Spoiler alert: he gets the girl at the end!) Written for the middle school level, it was one of my favorite books more than 50 years ago. I recently acquired a reprinted copy, and then found your site by searching for D-2 videos. I am looking forward to 5J1113 pushing dirt again! Thanks for producing the channel.
Watching you pull with that machine reminds me of the time at work they wanted a large concrete piling pulled from the bottom of a deep ditch.. That piling probably weighed almost as much as the d2 we had.. They kept working with it and out it came finally.. I never thought it would do it but it did.. Probably 40 years ago.... @@squatch253 You would be amazed at what was done with ours.. Man, now you gave me the itch to do some yard work. A crawler would definitely come in handy! Let me know when you've got one on the trailer in my area. I'll let you play in my back yard! Ha ha
Very cool maybe some Hilo Knick forks for moving stumps make them longer get more stumps looks like water standing where you are putting them they would help for a path base I’m babbling great job
That first Birch tree would make nice rifle stock wood. But staying warm takes precedence. Nice look'n D-2. As wet as it had been I was thinking the water table might have caused the tractor to become yard art. It was drier than I expected. This time of year top soil becomes 12-18 inches of muck here in Washington State.
Learning alot good levage technique keep it mind when pull my weeds, still just love watching your videos keep them coming Happy Memorial day🇱🇷 to you !
Thank you for the video. It took some doing to move the camera so much.Dare you to ask your mom if you can take her new Kubota out in the woods like that.
Enjoyed the video, I remember my Uncle had a D4 when I was young and he would hire me to run it, so much fun I would've done it for free, worked the crap out of me stopping to switch into reverse, you were cheating hooking a chain to the logs good thinking,
I loved hearing her growl, what a beautiful sound and beautiful piece of old machinery at work. Anybody ever turn the fuel on these things up or turbo em?
I've been binge watching your videos the last two days. I just purchased a 1954 CAT D2 dozer today. The previous owner had monkeyed with it quite a bit. It runs with a pull start, moves forward and back, steers (clutches were seized, but freed up), and the hydraulics work. The issue is the pony. They removed the carb and messed with it so I'm trying to piece that back together. Someone over tightened the rocker cover, a lot, crushed the center in a bit. I went to remove the nuts on top so I could straighten it and reseal it, but when I did, the studs pulled out with the nuts. Do you happen to know the torque spec for the 4 studs and the nuts on top for the rocker shaft? Would be much appreciated. Love the vids. Can't wait to get my D2 back in full working order. Have a lot of work for it to do on the farm.
That was FUN. The variation on camera angles is Great. Especially running the "weeds" right up to the lens. Thank you. I have some D2 ??'s. Have you done a video on the finer points to clutch adjustment? If so, I haven't found it. Also, the blade on "the Old Iron Mistress" is different than mine. What blade options are there? Thanks for the videos!!
Was there a different blade offered for the D2? My dad's had a manual tilt. But I don't remember if it was a 5u model or other. I do remember it was electric start pony motor, diesel tank behind operator seat and battery UNDER seat. Does that sound familiar to a specific model?
Hi Squatch my friend, not been on here much as been busy like yourself, doing exactly what you have been doing here with your D2, you know when judgement day comes for you and I there is going to be a protest of tree huggers shouting for you and me to go to hell!!😂 Great video as always, keep them coming as they are always great. Love to see those old Cat's working. When I was young my Uncle had a D8 that I learned to drive when I was 14. It made short work of "weeds"!
That Old IRON Mistress was a grunting while doing her job. Not fast or fancy but she does get the work done. I'm Impressed.
