  • Majun is a traditional Sindhi sweet. It is a winter special recipe. Traditionally Majun is made with white urad dal, mawa, milk and dryfruits. This scrumptious sweet is so hard to resist.
    Ingredients
    1. White urad dal 125 gm
    2. Mawa/ khoya 500 gm
    3. Sugar 250-350 gm
    4. Milk 1 litre
    5. Almonds 75 gm
    6. Cashew nuts 75 gm
    7. Dried Dates 125 gm
    8. Grated dried coconut 125 gm
    9. Poppy seeds 25 gm
    10. Cardamom 5 gm
    11. Clarified Butter/ Ghee 125 gm
    12. Chopped Dry fruits for garnishing.
    Method
    1. Washing and soak white urad dal overnight.
    2. Cut almonds and cashew nuts into small pieces.
    3. Remove seeds from dried dates and grind them coarsely.
    4. Grate dried coconut.
    5. Grind dal without adding water if necessary add very little water and make a fine paste of it.
    6. Now dry roast poppy seeds, cashew nuts and almonds.
    7. Heat heavy bottom kadhai, add ghee to it.
    8. Let the ghee heat till it becomes piping hot.
    9. Add ground urad dal to it.
    10. Now roast the dal paste by continuously stirring it on low medium flame.
    11. When the dal turns pink add mawa to it and roast it again by continuously stirring it on low medium flame till dark golden or brown color.
    12. Add milk, dried dates, grated coconut and poppy seeds and let it boil on high flame.
    13. When the mixture starts boiling low the flame and let it cook till the mixture becomes thick.
    14. Now add roasted almonds, cashew nuts and sugar to it.
    15. Let it cook on low flame till it becomes thick then add cardamom powder to it and mix well.
    16. Majun is ready, switch off the flame.
    17. Now transfer the majun in a pre-greased tray, garnish with chopped almonds and let it cool down. After it cools down cut the pieces and store them in the refrigerator.
    Or transfer the majun in a box, garnish with dry fruits, let it cool down and then store it in the refrigerator.
    Whenever you want to serve majun heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds or in a kadhai and then serve it. while heating if it looks thicker then add 1-2 tsp of milk.
