  • A walk along the towpath of the Bude Canal from the site of the inclined plane at Marhamchurch to the Sea lock in Bude Bay.
The Bude Canal is England’s most westerly major canal but now just a short stretch remains of the original thirty five and a half mile long project constructed 1819 to 1825. Some has been restored and you can also explore on this site the historic maps and fascinating details of the incline planes and industrial heritage.

One of my favourite memories going away with my family. Staying in Bude, and walking the canal route up to Marhamchurch. The Bullers Arms did great food the other end. Was always fascinated by the inland locks. Until recently they were simply concreted dams but now returned back to wooden structures

Hi Dan, thanks for sharing. Bude is still one of our favourite places to visit we have stayed there a number of times over the years. We have not tried the Bullers Arms, one to put on our list for next time. The Weir Tea room is a also lovely stop off, just by the canal before Marhamchurch.
