Hi Christian, I was just wondering if you already have your rebuild complete. If not, maybe consider using pressure treated wood for your sub-flooring. I was also wondering if your refrigerator/freezer are draining properly. Also, if you have a portable a/c, it will produce a lot of water that will need to be drained. Either way, I hope that everything works out well. Sending you prayers and best wishes always, but in particular for your Nordic adventures and rebuild. (I have wondered if I may possibly have Viking ancestry)

Two things I discovered being in the Silver Cocoon. Something is always going wrong, no matter how much you try to engineer any conceivable problem in advance. And two, the Cocoon has become my art form, a place to build new things and express my own creativity. So you are starting again with a blank canvas. Something new, something better, will be reborn and at least for me reinventing my living space is an essential part of my life now. Your arts forms are photography and I gather guitar, documenting and story telling; mine are music (the Cocoon has a music studio), engineering and writing. The Cocoon has become my vehicle for expressing all three. Your van life has shaped who you are and what you create as much as you have shaped it. I hope you enjoy the rebuild and the chance to create anew who your van is and what it teaches you.
I always think that your van is a perfect reflection of you, very zen, minimalist, organised and stylish, so I can completely understand how much this problem must have affected you. Great job identifying the issue, such a shame it has caused so much damage but I know that you and the van will emerge stronger and better than ever and cannot wait to see the upgrades (to the van). Like a Final Fantasy game, where you're on a quest and your vehicle breaks down and you have to spend a few days in a village to find spear parts to rebuild your ride. Thankfully you didn't have to journey out to fight any boss creatures to obtain various equipment to help fix your van. 😂 I'm glad you're safe tho! Keep doing amazing things! ❤❤

Helter skelter. It felt like turning a radio dial at high speed through all the stations. We cruised from unbelievable beauty to rotted wood, rolling luggage in a parking lot to that serene sunrise, saw you as a free spirit model to fearless adventurer, drop a “shit eating grin” then be in business negotiations, living in the peace of a loner to having incredible friends everywhere… we learned about your love of showers, and that your home is gutted and ready for another adventure. And all of it narrated in your sultry voice of confidence. I honestly think you could make a 20 minute time lapse mountain sunset with just you talking, and it would melt us all. So good. ✌🏼

No joke. Lighter fluid works to remove adhesives without damaging surfaces. I used to use it on photos that had stickers on them and it was 100% effective. Worth a try 😊🙏

Gutted, yikes! Well, now you get to design the most perfect van! What a horrible mess. I'm gonna keep my eye on my hose from the sink to the grey tank. It's not like the shower where the drain goes through the floor, it's just a braided nylon tube like yours and I can see how, if it rubs the side of he hole it could get damaged. Can't wait to see your new van! (add a shower, it's great for storage and it fits. I have one in the same size van.)
Heya! For the underlayment on your van flooring I've got a pro-tip. Go with Coosa Board! Totally mold and rot resistant, only about .1% water absorption, and lighter weight than ply by about 60%, nevermind how much lighter it is than marine ply. There are a couple distributors in the PNW as well. It is expensive (in the range of $300-$400) but that is soooo worth it for your flooring
I don’t know why van lifers don’t use more boat building materials or design cues. I’ve watched so many van builds that include subflooring or other materials highly prone to mold or water absorption. One of the reasons I love Oliver Travel Trailers is because of the mold resistance and ship building inspired design.

I follow many people on youtube and the images that you catch are just so much more colorful and bright than others. It just seems that you know what to film to show the best angles and colors and It is very impressive. You are way better with the camera than others. Have fun on your trip.
You must have half your van contents in that luggage -😀return day after seemed jetlag free - Admiral's Club lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3 has great showers - worth going business class just to hit that free buffet - thought your Norway trip was a vacation though it seems kind of work-related 'company sponsored' from your post - I'd need another vacation in those mountains after that whistle-stop tour 😫😫
So much has come out of these events, we now have Christian the plumber,, the electrician and the power tool operator. Now its time for a complete remodel of your home, with all those ideas accumulated over the years and I can't wait to see the finished product. Doesn't matter what your home is, or where it is, there's always stuff, repair, leaks, replacements. You just have to know it's coming, have cash set aside for it, and deal with it as best as you can. Maybe you learn to do something you never had to do before. I think you handled it really well. Hopefully you are up and going soon after your return. Travel well.
When the flooring in my home got water damaged from a leak it was almost $8k of flooring to replace. Your flooring fits in the front seat. 😂 but looks like you have lots of other items to replace. The good part you can reinvent the space. Good luck!

Then, as always when viewing your video productions, my BP dropped along with my heart rate and I was transported once again, to a place of absolute peace (thank you)! This one was quite the roller coaster ride--I can only imagine what you went through! I'm so glad that you had the soothing backdrop of The Tetons and the blessing of generous Friends, to cushion the blow of dismantling your home. I have spent many hours in the shadow of those majestic peaks. They are both humbling and energizing! I loved the golden-hour shots you captured at 9:10 and the following sunset clouds at 10:10, with the bird flying through the scene, as an exclamation point. Wow... and when you said, "...in a way, it felt like, even the sky was saying, 'Goodbye.'" Dang, Christian, that choked me up. Heya! For the underlayment on your van flooring I've got a pro-tip. Go with Coosa Board! Totally mold and rot resistant, only about .1% water absorption, and lighter weight than ply by about 60%, nevermind how much lighter it is than marine ply.
There are a couple distributors in the PNW as well.
It is expensive (in the range of $300-$400) but that is soooo worth it for your flooring
I don’t know why van lifers don’t use more boat building materials or design cues. I’ve watched so many van builds that include subflooring or other materials highly prone to mold or water absorption. One of the reasons I love Oliver Travel Trailers is because of the mold resistance and ship building inspired design.

I follow many people on youtube and the images that you catch are just so much more colorful and bright than others. It just seems that you know what to film to show the best angles and colors and It is very impressive. You are way better with the camera than others. Have fun on your trip.

You must have half your van contents in that luggage -😀return day after seemed jetlag free - Admiral's Club lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3 has great showers - worth going business class just to hit that free buffet - thought your Norway trip was a vacation though it seems kind of work-related 'company sponsored' from your post - I'd need another vacation in those mountains after that whistle-stop tour 😫😫
LOL at the shower dance! I'm halfway expecting the new floor plan for the van to ditch having a bed so you can add a full shower stall instead.

So much has come out of these events, we now have Christian the plumber,, the electrician and the power tool operator. Now its time for a complete remodel of your home, with all those ideas accumulated over the years and I can't wait to see the finished product. Doesn't matter what your home is, or where it is, there's always stuff, repair, leaks, replacements. You just have to know it's coming, have cash set aside for it, and deal with it as best as you can. Maybe you learn to do something you never had to do before. I think you handled it really well. Hopefully you are up and going soon after your return. Travel well.

When the flooring in my home got water damaged from a leak it was almost $8k of flooring to replace. Your flooring fits in the front seat. 😂 but looks like you have lots of other items to replace. The good part you can reinvent the space. Good luck!

As the video unfolded, I got the gist of it, and breathed a great sigh of relief. Then, as always when viewing your video productions, my BP dropped along with my heart rate and I was transported once again, to a place of absolute peace (thank you)! This one was quite the roller coaster ride--I can only imagine what you went through! I'm so glad that you had the soothing backdrop of The Tetons and the blessing of generous Friends, to cushion the blow of dismantling your home. I have spent many hours in the shadow of those majestic peaks. They are both humbling and energizing! I loved the golden-hour shots you captured at 9:10 and the following sunset clouds at 10:10, with the bird flying through the scene, as an exclamation point. Wow... and when you said, "...in a way, it felt like, even the sky was saying, 'Goodbye.'" Dang, Christian, that choked me up.
