Every time i play Mario Odyssey i'm in awe. Simply a masterpiece. Best Mario game since Mario 64 in my opinion.
The worst part about Odyssey is PEOPLE SPOILING THINGS IN THUMBNAILS! Not everyone has a Switch yet. Not everyone can play the game right away or finish it in one sitting. But of course you have people ruining it for others.
Better get off RUclips little girl.
Yeah, I better think of the people who spoil others and not go on youtube FOR LIKE EVER.
And of course it ruins stuff. It ruins surprises. There's a thumbnail that reads FINAL BOSS AND ENDING in all-caps red letters, but, yeah, little girl going on youtube is the problem.
Senseless mind I totally agree!!!!😤 especially nintendo keeps showing us more clips and talking about more about mario odyssey smh they spoiling they own game that hasn't even came out on release date lol.
I actually feel Nintendo has shown very little. Or at least I've seen very little. Most footages are from the Sand Kingdom and NDC. I might've seen lots from the Sand Kingdom, but Nintendo only showed Mario shivering in the Snow Kingdom.
I agree with you
I thought it was overrated at first, but when I played it 2 players with my friend when he picked up his pre-order, I then realized it wasn't overrated.
The game just felt rushed for me. If it had as much ‘kingdoms’ as Galaxy did along with powerups I would’ve liked it.
Once I finished the game I never played it again.
The game just came out, 2 days ago...can we play it a little before talking about if it's overrated or not.
I picked it up at 10am yesterday ( a whole day after release ), by 10pm I had beat the main story. The game is good but it is for sure over rated its a solid 8 at best.
Charles Cann 8 tf, its a 9, not a 9.5 not a 10.
you lowballing it. i enjoyed it. being the "new super mario" my latest games i didnt play galaxy 1 and 2 and just bought a wiiu so i havent played mario 3d world
The best content is end game. Don't stop playing just cause you beat the main story.
Retro Gaming Junction Good point
Retro Gaming Junction i agree and i love it
I am absolutely loving this game, and I haven't quite even made it to New Donk City yet. I'm definitely taking my time going through the kingdoms, and love the whole "What happens if I do this?" moments. It's like the game rewards you for thinking outside the box at every turn.
Simply a fun and enjoyable way to pass the time!
I don't think the game is overrated, I think it deserves the praise it's getting...
SUBZEROUK So you are a Zelda fan putting down Mario when they are both competing for game of the year with equal metacritic scores? Yup, totally credible! You even tried to sell Zelda while insulting Odyssey, nice try!
SUBZEROUK Breath of the Wild's design was less creative than SMO
+SUBZEROUK... You got all 999 moons in 2 days?... Bullshit...
I prefer Zelda, this game is good but I felt lacked the personality of the other Mario games. It's mechanics and control is perfect and what I think they're doing is creating like a source base for them to do anything with in future and just improve on, like with GTA but Zelda was just a huge surprise with all the secrets and the way people were talking about what they discovered in the game and so forth. That's what gaming is about. Great Mario game, but I prefer Sunshine and 64 still.
64 is just popular because it was the first game to jump to 3d and sunshine is just horrible, bad level design the fucking infuriating blue coin missions i didn't like the controls either not to mention a ton glitches which include just clipping through platforms at random times. Odyssey doesn't need to be revolutionary to be good.
The "so much you can do" is just collecting all the moons! Every game has tons of collectibles and i dont consider this a ton of content
There's coins
I played the first 20 minutes and it's everything Yooka Laylee should have been
arcticridge I loved yooka laylee. Still doing a 100% run on it. Can't wait for switch release
arcticridge yooka laylee does seem fairly promising despite its glaring flaws
yooka laylee is great. I like it almost as much as mario odyssey to tell you the truth. like i really liked Yooka Laylee
Mario has always been better than banjo kazooie anyways, like a million times better!
yooka laylee lol. come on.
banjo kazooie and crash are nothing but 2nd tier rip offs. Mario has always done things right, which is why it is still a popular game franchise.
theres a reason why banjo isnt being made anymore
Honestly i really didnt like this game - i feel like nothing about it is special, capturing is super dumb because it limits the moves u can perform and the rest of cappy is just a glorified boomerang powerup. Collecting all these moons just feels shalow and not very fun since u can eighter do very hard chalanges or just walk auround the corner. This difference in difficulties makes collecting a majority of the moons not intresting.
Also its very sad to me that this game was so overhyped and everyone was giving it a 10/10 instead of the 7/10 that it is, all that brought my hopes up that this might be as fun as a mario galaxy game but it doesnt even come close to galaxy 1&2.
I want to say that everyone can have their own opinon and if this is your fav game, good for you - I just want to prevent people thinking this game is even remotly as fun or good as botW - because thats what many people were saying and that basicly killed this game for me.
For 3 years now ive been trying to convince myself that i like this game, but when i think about it I prefer every other 3d mario game over this one... (even sunshine because that game had an identity this game cant even decide if its a sandboxgame or not, at the end u basicly just do everthing again)
I wasn't expecting such a great game but the min I started playing I knew this was going to be a great game
lol right

Super Mario Odyssey to me is the absolute best Mario game since Galaxy in the 3D realm of Mario. It’s just too damn good.
Edgy people call anything with a perfect 10/10 as overrated these days. It's like, in their mind, only their own opinions holds true.
If there's one tiiiiiiny little criticism that I have of Odyssey is I'd say it's a weeee bit too easy overall. I still absolutely adore the game and that dragon boss fight will forever stay with me. That was the most unsettling Mario boss I've ever seen. It looked more like a Souls boss than a Mario boss. Still epic though.
+DuckTalesWooHoo1987 lol your name is great
Ha. Thanks dude. I get that alllll the time. LOL! I'm actually a die hard Carl Barks and Don Rosa fan and Scrooge McDuck is my personal hero.
And that boss battle highlights another issue with Odyssey. Inconsistent art direction. The city map and that dragon battle looked like it belonged in another game. Was really odd shift in art.
The story is easy, but getting 999 moons requires beating some of the hardest plattforming challenges ever
Lol get the dedicated ending
It's not overrated at all imo, after completing it, i love it, and its one of the best games i have ever played.
Odyssey earned and deserves all of the hype and love.
Not really.
Yeah it's clearly a 10
@@sonoio3410 copy and pasted filler content with bad platforming 6/10
@@turkishbatman6901 it's the best platform i ever see in my life every kingdom are so different and well structured its just an amazing game i have no idea what nintendo should do next because this game is so perfect
@@sonoio3410 the game really sucks, pointless moon collection with no purpose. Most of them are just plain repetitive and boring. The game has so many flaws. ruclips.net/video/kYJx5xt2cB0/видео.html this guy explains why the game is so trash
I'd call the game wildly overrated imo. Here's why:
The worlds are really boring with many just having big wide open areas for thr sake of "exploration" and being "open world". By the time you've collected half your necessary moons to power the Odyssey you've already seen everything the level has to offer.
The only remotely interesting world was New Donk City.
The difficulty is way too easy. There's no real challenge and my deaths were from messing up long jumps trying to skip certain areas or having something happen like a captured Bullet Bill explode.
There's very little traditional Mario platforming. Most of the "platforming" pushes you to use the capture ability, like capturing forks or flag poles to lauch up walls and cliffs, or capture the current on wiring. Or using things like the caterpillars and Bullet Bills to get across gaps. Or using a Goomba totem to jump and release to get you up to the high edge. Or using enemies like the squids in the beach world to rocket up cliffs and high ledges to get a moon. You rarely do any actual platforming as Mario. Which is what I want to do in a Mario game, not rely on some cheap gimmick.
Cappy is way overused. He's used for basically everything. I get that it's the main gimmick like Fludd from Sunshine or the gravity in Galaxy. But unlike those which assist platforming and jumping Cappy is used more as a substitute for platforming.
A bunch of the moons have really poorly thought out placement as well. So many of them are just in high places, low places, and caverns. Super Mario 64 was good because it had some of those kinds of stars, but you also got stars for accomplishing tasks like bringing the baby penguin to it's mother, beating Koopa the Quick in a race, and other similar goals. Odyssey lacks this and it gives a very lazy design impression to me and gives no sense of accomplishment. You're basically just handed the moons for walking for long enough. The ones that you do get for specific goals are rare and reused quite a bit like using the goomba totem to go to the female goomba and get a moon.
I'd honestly just give the game a 6, maybe a 6.5 at best. That's just below 7, which is still a good score. And yes, I have played the entire main story.
And here's the thing: there are a lot people who don't like exploration in bland big areas. People who don't like that stuff just aren't vocal because it's not that important to us.
Oh, and for the record, I love Mario games.
Totally agree. But I think that the worlds just need to be larger in general, with less filler and more fully dedicated moons, as well as platforming stages being built like stages close to 3D World. But the game's flaws make me want a sequel due to all of the lost potential.
Who’s saying it’s overrated? I haven’t heard a single complaint.
100toonlink Well they’re on crack and in hardcore denial. Its Mario 64 on cattle roids and it’s fantastic.
Sheer amount of "sheer amount"
I love the motion controls and don’t think this game is overhyped overall. It’s had me hooked since I bought it!
3:16 - "The fire mushroom" - Do you even play Mario games?
There is something truly different about this game. The way it so freely and enjoyably breaks the mold with conventions, and has a self-awareness that Nintendo has been lacking for the previous decade.
Great video. I agreed with mostly everything, but I don't see how anyone could possibly claim that Odyssey is superior to Breath of the Wild. That's looney talk, but different strokes. What is abundantly clear however is that Nintendo is taking no prisoners right now.
For sure
I prefer Odessey
Odyssey is better in my opinion, but I'm biased because I am a mario fan
You agreeing or not does not dictate the quality of the review.
I like Odyssey more than BOTW. I think because when dealing with Nintendo you are dealing with lifelong preferences. And especially with BOTW that was a bizarre entry in Zelda franchise which didn't even have dungeons or a story, and ya, it's Odyssey by a long shot. But, if you prefer eating apples and glass weapons over constant fun with Cappy, I'd see why you'd choose BOTW
No. It rules.
brainwashed much?
FallicIdol Damn straight.
Donald Trumpet Look at your profile pic to find the answer!
FallicIdol I agree that’s why I preordered the switch bundle
Mario Galaxy is way better. In my opinion, Odyssey was ok, but it didn't really live up to my expectations and I would consider it to be one of the worst 3D Mario games (with 3D Land and 3D World being the only two games worse than it). The reason I dislike Odyssey is because of how forgettable it is. Many of the moons are filler and you just don't get the sense of achievement that you got from Galaxy in 64. In those games, you had a set goal where you choose a star to go for and the map changes to suit that mission, meanwhile in Odyssey, you can literally get moons from ground pounding certain areas and other meaningless tasks like that. The music is pretty bland in Odyssey, and the Metro Kingdom just doesn't fit with the Mario style. Real humans interacting with Mario just seems strange and out of place. Plus, the pre-credits game is way too easy. It rushes you right through, and I feel like unlocking a new kingdom wasn't really meaningful. Overall, my main gripe with the game is that the gameplay is mostly filler and unrewarding. However, I do have to admit that the graphics look pretty good and Nintendo gets some points for originality.
Dusk Gaming I 100% agree.
The music is much better in Galaxy too
+1
I had a smile on my face from start to "finsh" with Odyssey. I haven't been so obsessed with a game like this since Mario 3 back in my SNES days. I loved Mario 64 and Galaxy 1, but I always felt they could have used room for improvements. Odyssey IS one huge improvement for starters. The music, the fan service, the exploration, the sheer amount of content in the game.
I had the time of my life with this game and I'm not done yet. I've still over 100 moons left to collect and several costumes to unlock and I can't wait to get back to playing. I eagerly await the next game in the series. BRING US "ODYSSEY 2!"
The ending of New Donk City was one of the most epic moments in gaming history.
The Goosebumps though!
Tankbait The ending of New Donk City was one of the most pathetic moments in gaming history. FIXED

It's a great homage and Throw back with new touches that makes it fun. On the negative side it's a very easy game and restricted in each kingdom you are in (not an open world game). Still a great game 8/10 for me. Not the best but still very good
That's fair
I’m loving this game, The level design is unreal and I think the music is really atmospheric in places...but do you think the game is too easy? Personally I think Super Mario 3 is the not only the best Mario game but the best game of all time and that is a tough game that feels more rewarding to complete...great videos buddy
I agree, I think back on the mario games for NES mario 3 especially or snes like Mario world and those games were long and much more difficult. It's like gamers these days don't want difficulty in games. Maybe it will have some decent dlc with some challenging new levels. I hope zelda wins goty though because it deserves it.
I dunno, I lost 500 coins worth of lives trying to get one of the late-game power moons. Of course if you stop playing when you get to the end credits then you're doing a disservice to any Mario game.
Momo Symphonia I just think they could have made it more difficult to get to bowser. Maybe make it so you need more moons. Still a good game. I grew up in the NES days of ninja gaiden and contra. I just wanted the bosses to maybe get progressively harder.
Trent Trombley dude Mario 3 and Super Mario world can both be beat in like 4-5 hours. Not long at all.
Jeremy Mckay but still more challenging. World 8 in mario 3 had some crazy hard levels. Same with super Mario world. Bowsers kingdom as well as the moon in odyssey was so easy it was like they made them easy just to let players go through the story. I don't think I died once after the dragon.
I held off on the switch after hearing reports of tech issues, scratched screens and game freezes. I also have an iPad Pro and felt, why do I need two tablets? The fact is there are no great games on iOS or at least nothing that compares to Zelda and Mario. I just took the plunge and I cannot put the switch down. Fantastic console and it does what is says on the tin. It plays incredible games and takes the experience mobile . After the mess of the WiiU, Nintendo is back. Thanks for the solid review.
I would agree except Zelda BOTW also came out this year. So number 2,. I have been steadfast that the Dreamcast is the best console ever but the ground is shaking and I am holding with only 2 fingers as I think the Switch just might wind up being the greatest gaming console ever, And the scary part is this is switch 1.0, I just know they will update the switch like PS$ and Xbox are doing as opposed to making a whole new console so look for this to just build.
I don't like posting negative comments, but I thought Odyssey was disappointing. I didn't like the level design or the music at all. The controls felt imprecise a lot. The motion controls didn't need to be a part of it, especially when there are buttons not being used. The worlds felt like the didn't fit the Mario universe. The only part of it I really enjoyed were the boss battles
A bit, I just beat it in 2 days. I wasn't even playing for hours straight. It's pretty easy. It was fun though. Lots of good levels etc I just think compared to other mario games when it comes to reaching bowser it was too short. I'd give it a 9.2 out of 10
Trent Trombley wow how did you get all the moons that quick dude?
Luke Rowden He doesn't need to collect all the Moons to justify his opinion on the game. I like collectathons, but they're just a bonus. Imo, it is a bit overrated and that's probably because it's a Mario game that kind of came close to 64 and Sunshine. Still, it's a good game. Just didn't blew me away like 64 and Sunshine did.
Luke Rowden having 999 moons to find in a game doesn't make the game better especially if those moons are super easy to find. All I'm saying is the game is easy peasy. Sure I'll look for those extra moons but I guarantee it's not going to be too difficult. Zelda is a challenging game. You need to figure out patterns of certain bosses and sometimes timing is key to victory. Mario odyssey is the easiest Mario game I've ever played and because of that I don't think it deserves game of the year. That should go to zelda
It's weird I found zelda way too easy
Luke Rowden you found odyssey more challenging? You thought that dragon was harder than fighting a gold Lynel? Or even fighting a major test of strength in zelda?
Okay so I don't get it. People keep telling me that "post game is where the challenge is at", "the level design is creative", and "this game deserves all the credit it gets". So I've played all the 3D mario games but I've never been around when the games have been "hyped up", frankly I don't care about press releases and upcoming titles. I buy games after they come out and obviously I thought "hey a Mario game. Seems like a safe bet for my first switch game." So that's my level of expectations. I was a bit scared though that the game would be completely open-world because of the really boring trailer I saw months back of some "city" level. Yeah... New Donk City...
so again. I don't get it. A city of boxes, just boring houses, go talk to people, get moons. Is this the creative level design? I don't think there's a single level in any mario game which doesn't beat New Donk City, in terms of creativity. How can a plain 3D-city ,almost without any textures and with the best part being to drive around on a vespa, make people so excited?
The last thing I'd like to adress is that older mario games weren't only hard in the post-game. They were hard, from start to finish. So while I appreciate that I can sit through mindnumbing commercials to watch the feature presentation, I'd much rather just watch the movie.
For me, this is the weakest entry in the series, and I hope that they keep this as a spin-off series to Galaxy(which at least had some challenge). I'll avoid buying Odyssey 2 and hope for Sunshine 2, Galaxy 3 or even 3D World 2.
Glad there are different people liking different things and if you liked this game I'm glad you did! For me it's a 4/10
Never been a huge Mario fan tbh. It's a good game, but I think it's slightly over rated. I find myself getting bored mostly because it's too easy. I do enjoy the game, in small doses, though. It's a good game, I just don't think it lives up to the hype it's given.
Kyle Riley Nah it lives up to the hype
Donkey Kong Its just my opinion. It's such an easy game and it makes me lose interest after a while. However, I do admit it is a great game, and the little time I can play- without getting bored- I do enjoy it. I just don't think it's as good as everyone makes it out to be. Not to say it doesn't deserve praise, just doesn't deserve as much.
I totally agree with you dude, the game just felt too easy and therefor felt even shorter than it already was... I've never been the biggest Mario guy either but after hearing all the hype about how its a masterpiece, 10/10, or GOTY I wanted to try it out and while I really think it's a good game it's no where near what I'd consider a 10/10 or amazing game. It feels like it's more so for children anyway, so as long as they enjoy it I guess that's all that matters. Just wish people didn't make the hype so huge, maybe I would've appreciated it all more.
Bruh get out of here, if you ain't got no childhood with nintendo then don't play Odyssey
I don't know how that is overly different from the Galaxy games. The Galaxy games also have more to do after finishing the game than before. I haven't finished Odyssey, so I don't know how it compares. So far, I still rate it a little below Super Mario Galaxy 2, and I rate the "wow" factor of the game being below Mario Galaxy 1 - which, to this point, is still the most shockingly great game I have ever played.
Whenever someone says Mario 64 is the pinnacle of 3D Mario, I wonder if they've actually played it since the 90s. I've been playing through all the main Mario games in anticipation for Odyssey and I do NOT think Mario 64 holds up the way I and most others seem to remember it to.
PEHfinale I have and still feel that way, of coarse it needs to be with a actual n64 controller that is in decent shape and not the abomination of a remake on the ds...that version has teribad controls...all that said i'm lovin this game and it may become my favorite 3d mario game in time.
The graphics are of coarse getting very dated at this point in time.
I personally didn’t initially find interest in Mario odyssey when it was announced but after e3 I was hyped and the hype payed off - it’s now one of my favorite Mario games period up there with super Mario world, super Mario 64, and the original super Mario bros.
Bonus: I’m one of the people who think zelda is overrated
That ending was weird. A stork drops off baby Rosalina at Luigi's feet, but there's no mother!
An overrated Nintendo game? Go on...
Never was a big fan of hub worlds just took more time to get to the levels.
I still have yet to get to new dog city but look forward to it now. Also btw your shirt is so plain when you gonna upgrade bro?
God... Now I wish it was New Dog City
KWKBOX there is a hub world the mushroom kingdom you unlock it once you beat the main campaign
That's not a hub world.
It's funny how fanboys say you can't talk negatively about a game because you haven't played it, but you can damn sure hype it up and call it game of the year and a masterpiece before playing it. Hypocrisy at its finest.
I agree wholeheartedly in regards to the soundtrack. That's been my biggest disappointment thus far. Galaxy 1 and 2's soundtracks were INCREDIBLE, and they had SOOO many catchy songs that would get stuck in your head. With Odyssey, I'm roughly halfway through the game now and I've yet to fall in love with (or even memorize) a single tune. I feel like they really dropped the ball with the soundtrack, and that sucks.
+Chubzdoomer seems like they sort of went all out on the tracks with vocals and not so much the other ones.
I dunno. I personally love a lot of the tracks in this game. New Donk City. Steam Gardens. Bowser's Castle and Cascade Kingdom being some standout ones, in my opinion.
The coins do not tell you how many lives you have. If you have 0 coins and you die, the same thing happens as when you have 10 or more coins except that you don't lose anything.
Yes I’m sorry I’ve liked most 3D Mario’s but I just don’t feel the connection in odyssey
I get your point about not being forced to use the motion controls, but since there are at least 3 buttons that perform functions that other buttons already do, why not use those buttons to have a non-motion control option for each move.
The game is so fun! The only problem I have with it is that it's too easy.
Nintenjoe yeah this seems to be over looked by everyone. Everyone mentions it, but doesn't mark it down for it. It's a great game I'm sure. But easy = boring.
Not Andrew that's really not true, all of the 3D Mario Games have been easy yet tehy are critically acclaimed because they're fun, difficulty does not make a game fun, the game can be fun while also being easy, some of the easiest games ever are highly rated
I mostly agree. A couple of the boss battles can get a little rough, however, for the most part its fairly easy but by no means boring or uninteresting, especially as there are so many moons to get.
@@whiteknight5100 Yeah. 41 moons just from ground pounding. So interesting. 15 moons from lighting torches. So funny. 60 moons as reward for getting some other 60 moons. So creative.
It's been a long time since Mario Games became so easy. But even in 3D World you had a decent post game with a high difficulty curve. In this game the post game is just more of the same. Do a ground pound on the shiny spot again. Kick a rock 20 times again. Catch the rabbit again. Collect all music notes again.
It's really boring for people who get their 'kicks' solely out of completing challenges instead of seeing a number increase or hear a jingle play.
Awesome review. You gave your Opinions on the game without a single spoiler. Keep up the good work man.
It's overrated because it's not 1080p 60fps native.
It is 60fps though
Another main complaint I've seen is that in New Donk City (in the demo's I"ve seen) the city looks so small. Like the roads just end, and makes what should be a huge city, feel like a small cut out of a city hanging in space.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the complaint about the lack of quality platforming. Galaxy had great platforming built around the micro levels, which I loved. When I look at the levels in Odyssey, they look kind of empty and simple. The environments look massive, probably full of secrets, but they don't look fun in terms of the platforming elements. How did you feel about that? I haven't played Odyssey yet, so I'm just going by the clips I've seen.
Yeah that's what it seems to me. It seems like that cap takes a lot of the platforming elements away. But then again Mario 64 and Sunshine didn't have much platforming either and this game is trying to reestablish their formula. Mario Galaxy is the only 3d Mario game focuses on tight platforming.
pelucheCR7
What do you call 3D World?
TEKnology
A 2.5D Mario game.
judgemario I havent even finished the story, but there are rooms/sections in all the kingdoms that are seperated from the "overworld" which house a lot of the platforming sections
judgemario and what Josiah Ferrel said above there are doors and hidden sections in every kingdom that have tight platforming sections to get moons very similar to galaxy
If a reviewer complains there's no traditional powers ups and complains about the coin-based life system that's been the standard since the first 3d Mario game, then they're not qualified to review games. They haven't played a 3d Mario game ever
Counterpoint: Wasn’t it nostalgia that skyrocketed SM64 into the “best game” lists? I remember hearing about that *a lot*.
You must be too young, because it has nothing to do with nostalgia, but everything with Mario 64 being possibly the most revolutionary game of all time. That game was lightyears ahead of everything and basically started the modern era of console gaming.
SM64 didn't really have any nostalgia factor whatsoever, unless you're counting the characters and maybe the coin sound effect as "nostalgia." What rocketed it into best game lists was its great level design and brilliant adaptation of Mario gameplay to three dimensions.
coffee115 Still is a fantastic game to this day.
Got a 98 back than just like Ocarina. Highest rated games back than.
TheAlphaOmegaX3 Not really compared to new games.
I'm at 320 moons right now and all I want is more. Every since square inch you can explore is pure masterpiece, it flows so well and I simply cannot stop smiling the whole time. takes me back to mario 3, Mario 64, and Mario Galaxy, where I lived and breathed these games right up to 100% completion. My only gripe is difficulty. It's gotten harder at the end content but overall has been a breeze. I get it, you gotta make this reach a wide audience but a higher 2 hit max difficulty would have been nice IMO.
No
Lol at people saying the game is easy. Post game if you had lives you would hate this game because of the difficulty.
It's a great game, but I do wish some of the levels were more expansive. I don't like it as much as BotW, but that just makes it my second favorite game this year.
U ARE a normal player
I cant believe there are no Koopa Troopa enemies in this installment.
Jumping on those, and sending their shell spinning into another foe, with that "Pa-lock!" sound, is one of the best things about Mario games. Removing that was a big fail, and part of why I think Mario Bros U is a lot more fun.
The game truly is a master piece. I have a few grips the camera is a little wonky at times. I miss the power ups. I've been playing since the SNES/nes day and I always enjoy a new Mario adventure /kart game to see what kinda crazy new power ups we'll get. I'm fear full too see how Nintendo takes metroid into a truly open world.
The real question that should be on any Nintendo fans mind Is? How will Cappy be implemented into smash ? Will Mario have him and fludd? Or will be be some kinda crazy power up that once picked up you can throw it at another player and take there power kinda like Kirby.
DatGameCollector Good example about the power ups!
Mario 64/Sunshine never had power ups, also taking over things fulfills that anyways, Odyssey is the 3rd game in that series.
That was for Mario 64, Sunshine has FLUDD and Yoshi, Odyssey has the capture mechanic and Cappy. Flight, metal, and transparency are not really power ups honestly, a power up is like what the feather does or fire flower or ice flower, that kind of thing which is what you get from the 2D Marios and 2D-like.
The capture transformations are basically the power ups of this game.
Dio yes thats true but I just isn't the same feeling as getting it from a block.
Odyssey is the perfect nod to mario fans.
This game is on another level because of the shear fun of it all. Loving every minute
One thing that irks me about the game to no end is that I sometimes have to play 30 minutes sessions exploring far-off places on the map without ANY music. I think they fucked up and that this is why the game is not perfect by a long shot. But it's definetely a blast to play and this "negative" has never stopped me from playing.
Not overrated but the fanboys are cancer. Attacking Jim "Tubby Hitler" Sterling before the guy has yet to play the game. Also attacking Projared because he gave it an 8.
Junior Duperval still Projared was really wrong for that because he gave 3D World a 9/10 and i dont think this game deserves to be a 8/10
The Trap Dough Your comment is what I'm talking about. You fanboys can't understand how opinion works so you have to attack his older reviews. He should give mario odyssey a 10 because? Oh right because you said so right? And he shouldn't have given mario 3d world a 9 because? Oh right you said so.
Junior Duperval
Is Projared review on metacritic?
The Trap Dough .... 3D world>odyssey. Both amazing games though.
3D World is probably the worst 3D Mario
now we wait for mario odyssey dlc............
I think BotW is ever so slightly overrated and deserves a 9/10 instead of 10... Thanks to the lackluster dungeons. But Odyssey on the other hand is not overrated AT ALL. Fantastic game.
Mario odyssey is overrated dude, mario sunshine was better to be honest
Sunshine had some problems with the controls (a little bit wacky) and some of the design (in terms of how you get the collectables) have some problems. So imo Sunshine is not really as detailed, varied, and in overall, fun, as Odyssey.
It really is overrated.the only thing good in this mario game are the levels, everything else sucks, bad controls, camera sucks I could go on and on etc
nardia sally Wow that's the dumbest and most wrong statement I've heard today.
nardia sally The controls don't suck at all. That's just you messing up alot.
Saying Galaxy is like 64 is a vast oversimplification. Galaxy is so much more linear. Feels totally different.
I've played this game for 40 mns and It got boring AF.
Dave Philplips boring to me brah, this game is way too easy, it's too kiddie friendly for me.
Agree it's a bad clone of Banjo Kazooie, with simple platforming, and the Moons are as easy to get as walking across a street for the most part. No challenge, at all. It's the LEGO GAME of MARIO GAMES!
Mario Galaxy 2 was way better and more challenging than mario. Odyssey
Dave Philplips well then don't respond you idiot, I'm not the only one who feels that way there's many that agree that Odyssey is trash, to me industry
Odyssey it trash and it will stay that way.
you are in the vast minority here yeah there are people who dislike it just like there are people who dislike gtav or the witcher 3. dont act like this is some nintendo conspiracy
You sound so different and more calm here
I am sold. I was going to buy my PS4 next month. I'm gonna get my switch instead.
Totally worth it.
You should still consider a bit taking library of games in consideration. Switch does have a solid line up incoming though ps4 library is nothing to scoff at.
Idiot.
We have both and the only thing the switch has going for it is portability. Game selection is pretty bad to me. Nintendo titles are slim and mostly Wii and Wii U rereleases for a full $59.99 all over again. Triple A titles are old and again expensive compared to other consoles. The only thing it has is a lot of crap load of bad indies, pixel art games, mobile ports and a couple Nintendo titles that are new. The prices on their games across the board are way too high. In my opinion it would be a mistake to get a switch over a PS4 unless your really wanting to be mobile.
In ten years no one will care about this game except for the kids that grew up with it.
Dude I love your vids but pleaaaasse cut the doofy hair bro
you should judge your self then Judge others
Bro deffo needs to see a barber.
The hair is fine
The Sexy Hair must stay! I only watch RGT 85 because of his sexy hair and smooth buttery voice.
I agree. RG is the fuckin' man.. but last vid he even tried to straighten his hair lol.
It really is incredible how they added so many interesting mechanics into one single game, couldn't agree more, game of the year, a technological masterpiece.
Here we go... can't even go a week without these videos lmao. Same happened with Breath of the Wild.
Matthew Evans the petty jealousy of Sony and pc fanboys.
FallicIdol lool you think nintendo fanboys are any better?
Just seems a little too soon to me, how can we discuss this 3 days after release.
Matthew Evans Most people that got the game on launch day have completed the game, I'm nearly finished I just need 90 more moons to unlock the darker side of the moon
I have finished the game, and unlocked the darker side of the moon but I still think its too early.
Odyssey is a very solid mario games. the design and detail are superb and top-notch.
but I just miss how I learn in a game like SMB3 , where you actually think on how to finish a stage, where you repeat a certain castle just because it is so hard? it feels really rewarding to complete it.
Odyssey is fun , but collecting power moon is one thing. most of my problem for the moon is where they are , not how to achieve them. some are well hidden , yes but not that hard to get. you'll get my point. some of them have decent difficulty to get but thats it. also getting all the power moon only for completionist. SMB3 gives you a rewarding feel just from completing the game.
also boss battle is a joke in Odyssey. I understand it is for casual but is it really needed to tone down that far?
Game of the Year video??? Looking forward to it :)
Kapp'n Zubby it's a great game but I still think Zelda has it beat
Zelda got it
I just put my Mario Switch edition on layaway at Walmart. I'm so excited for this game. It's killing me not to spend my bills money on it right now and try to finesse my way through the start of the month. But payday comes soon and I have until December 11 to pay it off. This was the killer app for me and I'm so glad it's a huge success.
I definitely want a switch now!
Petrarca79 did you get one?
I'm noticing a trend of people being too quick to criticize Nintendo Switch with any chance they can get
No. No it is not. Stop making these kinds of videos 8 minutes after the game comes out.
Did you even watch the Video
Some Dude no, just answered the question in the title. It's a stupid question. Nobody thinks anything is overrated until they talk to other people or listen to their opinions.
watch the video you lovely human
you dont even know what its about
Scap attack noooo....
It's not overrated. This game evolved the sandbox style gameplay further from past Mario games and is a huge step up in terms of exploration. It definitely deserves the praise.
Call of Duty is overrated
Deryl Alexander Of course it is.
Raise your hand if you want to take a pair of scissors to all that hair coming out of the side of his hat.
Yes.
A little.
There's really no excuse for complaining about motion controls anymore. Nintendo has been committed to them for over a *decade* now. You've had ten years to accustom yourself people. Every big Switch game so far has them.
Planning on getting a new console. Switch or Xbox one? Lagging a little behind. Any suggestions? I know about the AAA aspect between the two but just worried this will crash soon like the wii u then I'm out 300+ bucks. Any help appreciated.
Drew Allen Well that could be a possibility(I doubt it though). It all depends on your preferences....I like Nintendo games, so I would recommend a Switch over the Xbox, but as I said.....it all depends on your preferences
Switch
Drew Allen Switch
Depends of how you pretend to enjoy games. If you want to play anywhere and anytime you can or like Nintendo games, go for the Switch. But if you just want a more visual experience, the XBox should be good for you.
Xbox is gonna be at the end of its like in 1-2 years. Switch is gonna be around for awhile. Up to you if you prefer Nintendo games or not though
Its certainly doesn't deserve a 10. A 7 at best. Poor boss battles, cappy cappy cappy ( i would have prefer each costume to bear different abilities), non openworld which is false marketing, many many mini games and extra contents which end upbeing shallow and repetitive... etc etc.
Pros : the environment is gorgeous, nice costumes, nice 3D world approach of Mario series.
Yes and no. It's all personal taste. Imo it is easily the most boring 3d entry. But if all the critics and fans love it? Let them. No need to be a douche.
Slowed running speed from 64/Sunshine, also watered down forward momentum with triple jumps and wall jumping air speed. The downhill momentum running is a nice touch but that should be Mario's standard movement speed. Anyway yeah I agree.
Retro Soul Idk if I have a problem with his movement but I definitely see what you mean!
My issue comes from... It's kind of an Easter egg hunt. It is so leisurely and unrewarding to collect moons imo. It isn't a badly put together game but it is like.. anti-climactic. It pulls away the veil and I don't feel like I am playing a platformer. Just wandering into shiny things.
Exactly, I agree with that issue too. It's become like Donkey Kong 64.
Well, none of your critiques have anything to do with what's by far the most important, the core gameplay, which is still excellent and the most fun Mario imo in that regard (I do agree about the boss fights though).
Obviously the cosmetic aspects like the early polygonal graphics look like crap (they always did even back then).
Also some levels do go from a to b but...so what? Didn't Mario World go from A to B, Galaxy too and so on...that's a personal taste thing, my favorite levels to pick up and run through are the Bowser levels which are the most linear!
My only disagreement is calling the camera "broken", I'd say that's an overstatement, I always brought it further away using one of the c buttons and that was fine mostly. Take your pick but I'd definitely rather play 64 over the slowed down Odyssey.
Kevin C It’s not slow, the kingdoms are just huge. Much bigger than any level in a 3D Open World Mario game.
To me, the life system makes no difference in this game. Like what’s it gonna do if you run out of lives? Go back to the beginning even though you can teleport? Either way there’s challenging stuff that you will repeat over and over until you get it so it’s perfectly fine to me.
It's not a bad game by any means, but I don't think it deserves the 10/10 score that it's been getting. Maybe a solid 8 or 9.
Hey, Toy Room love to hear what games you think are a ten. I just like hearing people's opinions.
Akwa Amana that's tough I'm not really sure what games I'd give a 10. GTA 5 is one that does to mind. But I'd have to sit down and really think about it
Akwa Amana to me Mario oddessy is a 9.5/10. Fantastic game but had a few flaws. Main one being that the power moons weren't as rewarding or memorable as the power stars. You could find power moons everywhere, the power stars in 64 have you remembering every single one. For instance there is no way you'd forget about the wing cap power star, or the cannon into the wall, or entering the volcano in lethal lava land. Other than that I had no issues with the game.
And regarding what a 10 is, for me there is only 1 10/10 and that is metal Gear solid 3 subsistence. The subsistence version because it fixed my only gripe with mgs3. The next closest games to a 10 are Zelda Majora's mask/Ocarina of Time, smb3, super Metroid, then a bunch other games that would take me too long to rank.
boxinghiro thanks boxinghiro for a short but detailed answer.
Akwa Amana I felt it was ok but not a 10. I had issues with the camera angles and I hated the way the strategy for every single boss was bop them on the head three times. Not worth $60 maybe $20-$30 would be more fair.
There's no reason why it shouldn't achieve maximum ratings. Throughout my time playing the game, I couldn't find a singular flaw. Because of that, you can't put the game down on thin air, so I believe it deserves all of those reviews.
It's not jiving with me. I love Mario, but it doesn't feel great. Everything about it is great, but I feel like it doesn't control great. Mario doesn't feel great to control, and I've tried on 4 different controllers. Also, the 2D sections feel wrong. Mario should maybe jump higher? I can't put my finger on it.
It's a good game, just doesn't control great imo.
Hmm... the experience has been the opposite for me. I feel it's controlled better than the other 3d Mario games I've played. Spot on I'd say. The 2d sections felt really good as well, but they do seem to feel a bit different from the classic side scrollers. Maybe that's why. Oh, and the camera is a bit weird in the 3d.
You have the OPTION to adjust camera. You have the OPTION of NOT use the motion controls. And you have the OPTION of not be a hater.
I feel these where not really any negative aspects you found about the game. But what other people where saying and then excuses why did not matter to you. I find it hard that you could not find anything negative for yourself. And maybe you do think it is perfect. And sorry if that really is the case. But I always find these videos a little suspect when the presenter has nothing original to add and and just uses that space to instead say why he does not agree. That is not really covering the negative aspects from your point of view. And can also show a possible what I call Nintendo googles effect. Or blinders if you will.
Emotion is a strong blinder to flaws. Think of it like being relationship with a girl. You love her so much and have so many memory's but she has changed. And your friends see it but you are blind to it. You still see aspects that you like. But fail to see the flaws. I am not saying this is you RGT. But with all these content creators calling them self's reviewers. And reviewers not even doing a proper job anymore. I get worried when I see someone defending a product so hard after a launch. I wish most people would just do the review and let that speak for its self.
Cell Processing We’ll said. Expect the blinders from a muppet like Argo. Maybe this dude should wear a costume too
if every single comment on every single page of every single video on youtube were as intelligent, cogent, sagacious, and redeeming as yours, the world would be a much better place.
Thanks
Here's the rub though: what if you were in a relationship with an amazing person who catered to your needs and made you feel like no other. Your friends and family don't like the person and want you break up with them, but they have no concept of the happiness they bring to you. Do you forsake your chance at true happiness to make them happy? Or do you continue to happily engage in a rewarding and loving situation and ignore all the people who have no concept themselves because they aren't dating that person? Would you break up with the love of your life just because they can see how much you love the person, and that bothers them?
Actually this is yet another retarded comment from the ever so "intelligent" RUclips gaming community. First of all, the idea that a game is "perfect" is a subjective opinion that CANNOT be disputed because facts are not involved and deals solely within the realm of a persons preference. You are saying that anyone who thinks this game is perfect is a blind Nintendo fanboy, so thanks for telling people what to enjoy and how much to enjoy it.
Great Video Shawn! New dork city is just so fun, RC mini game was nice find lol
There is no level of hype that can live up to Super Mario Odyssey!
Also Super Mario Odyssey is taking from every single Mario game ever made and creating one amazing game out of it, on top of introducing brand new gameplay mechanics that have you with a giant smile on your face and bursting out laughing at times, there were also moments that make you break out in tears as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild I could point out like 100 flaws to the game, and most of them being pretty blatant too, but for Super Mario Odyssey I cannot find a single flaw through-out that entire game - only flaws would be things I personally did not like, but someone else probably absolutely loved that moment which makes it personal preference and not a flaw at all.
Super Mario Odyssey getting 100 / 100 undersells this game immensely, so I am giving it not a 101 / 100, not 110 / 100 BUT a 120 / 100 because this game is not only a complete master piece, not only goes beyond that, but goes the extra mile and everyone who picks up this game will have an absolute blast and bursting with joy and laughter through-out the entire thing! Super Mario Odyssey is a perfect example of what games should be and games forgot what gaming is supposed to be about; Super Mario Odyssey brings gaming back to its root and purpose of what games are meant to be, just pure fun and joy!
If you want to experience what it is like to have fun again and feel like a kid again then Super Mario Odyssey is a necessary purchase, and one you will NEVER regret!
(Also most people like motion controls, it is just the tiny vocal minourity that says the do not like them. I do recommend using motion controls, also do not feel afraid to flap your arms like a bird while being something like a Paragoomba, embrace the inner child in you and run with it because games should have you escape reality and not be reminded of life!)
I almost forgot, but the kingdoms act like Delfino Plaza Area from Super Mario Sunshine, so you do not need a hub world because every kingdom fulfills that purpose! Also there is something implemented in the kingdoms that can give you the same hub world esq feeling as Mario 64/Sunshine too!
***********************
P.S. WE NEED SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE REMAKE!
if you broke out in tears over anything in Odyssey, you're emotionally unstable.
Stacona I personally believe that giving a game a perfect score is unrealistic. Sure, Mario Odyssey is good, but not perfect. For something to be perfect, there has to be something else that is perfect to base it on. Since no game is perfect, no game will ever be perfect. There will always be ways to improve. That being said, I wouldn't go as far as to say that Odyssey is what other games should strive to be, they should be better. I personally think that Odyssey is good, but not the best Mario game. I'd probably put it in my top 10. Some complaints I have with the game include:
-Weird camera controls
-Little incentive to get any moons past 500 or even 250
-Many moons require little effort, or are too cryptic
-The lack of information on some of the captures, even in the action guide
-The motion controls
Alcovitch hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha............. dead
And honestly to me anyway super mario odyssey was a solid 8 out of 10 just didnt really capture me but glad u enjoyed it now botw that was great and so was xenoblade chronicles 2
CallmeAffiliated I honestly feel the same way. When you complete mario odyssey and trying to get the stars it gets really boring after a while
you can do the downward throw by butstomping and then throw, so its only the upward throwing move your missing
