Federer in many aspects of his game (barring his speed and movement and his ability to really quickly get into position), is in fact playing better now than before. Look at how that backhand used to be -- it's a wrecking ball now. The serve is deadlier. The serve and volley better. And as far as my eye sees, he's hitting a much heavier cannon ball like shot now. The Forehand however isn't something that he lets rip at the first opportunity anymore, although he can still hit those shots -- I suspect it's because he can't get into position as fast as before. Meanwhile, Nadal was too fast and a ball retrieving beast back in the day...however the power advantage he had over Federer is gone now.
srinitaaigaura I think the key difference in the match up between these two now is Roger stepping into his backhand more, which he never did before. His game has always matched up very poorly against Rafa’s.
Tbh even in this match, and many earlier matches, when Federer drives through the serve return on his BH, he starts dominating the point. The difference is he was lower on confidence with the smaller racquet and didn't do it often enough.
Raphael Basile very true. I think US Open is the best level of play I’ve seen from Nadal. Flat fast serve, monstrous backhand and he would hit the forehand down the lone from any angle

Adithya Naren I agree. Nadal's speed is useless when Fed hits flat bombs at the top of his shoelaces instead of slicing or spinning the bh. Djokovic has been implementing the same game plan for years on hardcourt and it's been paying off. Today was another proof of that!
@@SHVideografieLOL you mean the same strategy Djokovic applies when beating Fed? Djokes. @@Sanjinator1 Fed just didn't implement the right strategy for a very long time. Had he started to take the bh more early and flat like in 2017 he would have had more wins over Nadal.
@@SHVideografie Nah. Rafa slowed down. You really think Fed is that dumb? 'Oh, all I need to do is flatten the trajectory on both sides to get more wins'. That shouldn't take 10 years to figure out and it didn't, there's only been one major change from the other end in these years and it's basic logic 101. Fed's struck his FH side early and relatively flat all his career and it could never dent Rafa until he slowed down. The end. Logic - Rafa slowed down, natural process. No excuses needed. Ask yourself, if his BH/FH of 17/18/19 combination is so lethal, why has it not worked on Novak. Same problem, Djoker hasn't slowed down. Defense is as good as ever. Good effort by Federer against GOATdal.

How can you call Nadal the Goat. Federer has 8 Wimbledon titles. Nadal only has 2!
I am really going to miss the rivalry between these two. They both inspired me to pick up a racquet.

Nadal was slapping the fuck out of the ball, ripping it to shreds!
Never seen him play so freely against Fed before or since.
The court colour, video quality of this match makes it look like playing a video game
Is this an exhibition? Never seen Federer play with his watch on unless it’s an exhibition
there was no doubt in Rafa´s shots back then..
Last ball was in though. Fed just knew that he was gonna lose anyway so he didn't challenge.
